possible plea deal, accused shoot inner the tucson massacre heads to court. will the judge agree he is mentally competent. >> here is what people will be talking about today. square read loughner due back in court in just a couple hours he is expected to plead guilty in last year's shooting in tucson. the question of his competency must be answeredder. here is karen brown this arizona with the latest for wjz. >> reporter: jared loughner is expected to plead guilty to killing six people and injuring 13 others including former congress woman gabrielle gifford it is shootings took place at a tucson shopping center, january 2011 but first, loughners attorneys must convince the judge he is mentally competent to understand the charges against him. >> i am sure the judge will talk to mr. loughner ask him some questions engage in some dialogue so that the judge is convinced he does understand, what is going on. >> the same judge said last

year loughner was mentally unfit, to stand trial. loughner's lawyers are now hoping he will be sentenced to life in prison, instead of receiving the death penalty. survivors of the shooting say the most important outcome for them is that jared loughner is off the streets forever. they plan on being in court today, but gabby giffords will not be among them. her husband, former astronaut, mark kellye released a statement saying, we don't speak for all the victims or their families but gabby and i are satisfied with this plea agreement. avoiding a trial will allow us and we hope the whole southern arizona, community to continue with our recovery and move forward with our lives. i will step down this week. >> reporter: giffords is still recovering from a gunshot wound to the head, she resigned from office, in january. in tucson arizona, karen brown, wjz eyewitness news.

giffords former aid was also wounded he won a special election to fill her seat in june and is running for re- election in november. university of maryland honor student charged with planning a shooting rampage is back in court. moments ago song pleaded guilty in this case, the 19- year-old is accused of making what he thought would be, anonymous threats online last march saying he would kill people on the college park campus however, investigators found no weapons in his dorm room, or at his parents home in howard county. song was sentenced to 200 hours of community service, he also has a 9:00 p.m. curfew. don back to you. >> thank you. ironically he was member of a campus research program for select honor students to explore how science and technology relates with society. wjz is in that courtroom more

at 4, 5 and 6:00 p.m. suspected sikh temple gunman reportedly had several ties to white supreme cyst groups and state of maryland. >> reporter: a clearer picture is emerging of the suspected gunman a man perhaps fueled by hate music. wade michael page the man police say is behind the massacre in wisconsin was a member of several white supremacist bands with ties to maryland the southern poverty law center which tracked page said a maryland based record label, label 56 distributed some of his hate filled music. they also said he played at racist music events in baltimore. sources say page was dishonorably discharged from the army his step mother said he changed significantically since she lost touch with him

decades ago. >> what has changed him i have no idea obviously we will never know. >> reporter: but a former friend said page talked about a racial holy war. >> when i couldn't find any contact information, i did start looking for news articles, you know, something like this might have happened somewhere. >> reporter: page killed 6 people at the sikh temple outside milwaukee before an officer shot and killed him. >> there will always be people that will do this and this one happened to be in a sikh temple it could happen in a synagogue, could happen in a mosque or a church. >> reporter: that maryland based record label is no longer selling recordings of page's band and says it does not want to profit from tragedy. fbi believes page acted alone and is still investigating his ties to white supremacist groups. city police shoot a man outside a northwest baltimore

courthouse while he was trying to escape. williams was under arrest he managed to get out to have building and jump into a car he then used to nearly run down an officer trying to stop him that officer shot williams in the arm. a lack of rain on maryland's eastern shore leads to a drought warning for that region the state department of the environment says rainfall ground water levels and stream flow are all below normal on the shore. local water systems are asked to implement conservation measures while homeowner and businesses are being asked to cut nonessential water use the previously announced drought watch for central maryland remains in effect. for most of maryland, rain seems to be staying away again today. a live lookout side, another afternoon of sun and clouds in the area. we have complete first warning weather coverage for you. marty in the out back and bernadette woods in the weather

could get a dee st. amount of rain. -- a decent amount of rain. sunshine mixing clouds at times across the north the front stalled to our south not much of a wind with the front not moving much a little breeze out of baltimore that is about it. dew points have come down, upper 60s a little less than yesterday, some with a muggy, and 84 degrees. you see where the rain is, 78 ocean city, 85 in dc. we will warm up to the upper 80s nothing all that extreme temperature wise more what we will talk about next few days varying chances for showers and storms. there is the front we were talking about notice this one out to the west. that is the next one moving our way. and tomorrow gets a little closer, what it is going to do is tap into this moisture south of us see a couple showers and thunderstorms break out then on thursday the front gets closer, scattered showers and storms, some of them possibly strong to even severe and then on friday when the whole front comes through, again the chance for
