people will be talking about today. it's this hour's breaking news. the fbi releasing new information about the wisconsin temple shooting. mary bu ball la is in the news room with the latest. good afternoon >> reporter: good afternoon just minutes ago investigators wrapped up a news conference about the deadly shooting. the fbi says the gunman wade michael page died of a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head after he was shot by police. investigators still do not have a clearly defined motive in this shooting. police say page killed six people at the sikh temple just outside milwaukee on sunday. >> thank you very much. the fbi says it still believes page acted alone. there's more breaking news happening right now. a couple of buildings at the walter read national military center are being evacuated due to a bomb threat. there are unconfirmed reports saying someone called the hospital and made the threat. according to the website, all appointments have been suspended until 1:00 this afternoon. we will bring you

more information as soon as it becomes available. now a follow up to a wjz investigation an a close call at reagan national airport. the faa is taking action and it will effect bwi. wjz and mike hellgren is hive with new safety procedures already in place. good afternoon. >> reporter: good afternoon. wjz object tained the faa memorandum. it says for now at least planes will not be able to take off and land in opposite directions until more training is done. >> the federal aviation administration has temporarily banned a common practice at airports nationwide including bwi after a control tower miscommunication wjz reported at near by reagan international airport. that sent three planes too close to each other. two of them were just 12 seconds apart. planes are no longer able to flay from

opposite -- fly from opposite directions. at reagan national, it was wind from a storm that led supervisors at a radar control facility to order the shift. a controller at the airport was never made aware of it, leading to two u.s. airways regional jelts flying out boun to take off in the path of an in-- jets flying out bound to take off in the path of an inbound flight. when realizes the mistake she rerouted the plane. >> what happened? >> standby. >> the faa says this should never have happened. the suspension on opposite direction operations is in effect until new procedures are in place. that's expected to take about a month. >> the faa has launched a full investigation and we are interviewing the people involved. we will get to the bottom of this. we will take all appropriate action to

prevent miscommunication not future. >> even though the planes were too close the faa claims they were never on a head to headed collision course. in annapolis the governor released details about the gambling bill selt -- set to be introduced adam may is in the information room >> reporter: the addition of table games and the building of a sixth casino, a casino in ann arundel county and one in baltimore city would get an additional 5% to spent on marketing an capital improvements to offset competition. the bill would allow all of the states casinos to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. right now they close earlier. the bill does not include plans to allow internet gambling. >> the special session is sedded to start in the state senate on thursday. -- scheduled to start in the state senate on thursday.

public health officials saying heat related deaths are up to 38. that's 4 more than in all of 2011. being left without electricity and air-conditioning after the powerful wind storm is said to be a contributing factor to some of them. this noon there is a continued call for stronger charges in the death of christopher brown. in june the 17-year-old died of asphyxiation in an altercation with officer james laboard. brown's family an others are new petitioning the state attorney to bump those charges up to second degree murder. believe it or not the presidential election is just 90 days away. a new poll shows a tight race in key battleground states. as you might imagine both candidates are on the road today. here's danielle nottingham with the campaign 2012 report. >> mitt romney took aim at

president obama's xik track record at a campaign stop in i i. >> the -- in iowa. >> the president's policies failed the american people in terms of getting people back to work. >> a new poll found voters in wisconsin, virginia an colorado are more apt to say the president's economic policies will hurt them financially. the poll shows the tight race in all three swing states. in wisconsin the president holds a 6 point lead. he's also out in virginia with a 4 point advantage. in both state women are giving president obama the edge. in colorado likely voters who think romney can better manage the economy gave him a 5 point lead. the president left for colorado this morning to try and cut into that lead. he's expected to target female voters and push his economic plan in a 2 day tour of the state. the white house is on the defensive about a romney campaign ad

ernesto is now a tropical storm. it weakened this morning while making its way over mexico's yuktan pence la. ernesto is likely to become a hurricane again when it moves towards the gulf of mexico. hundreds of fisherman have already fled and thousands of tourists have left the resorts. there's no reports of any damage as of yet. here we've just got gray skies today. it's cloudy and humid in our area. we've got complete first warning weather coverage for you with marty bass in the out back and bernadette woods in the weather center. good afternoon, bernadette. >> good afternoon. we're going to start out with ernesto. it is now a tropical storm. it made land fall last night at 11:15 eastern time in that southern part. along this track, it's a new track, it looks like it's going to stay further south. it will have minimal interaction with the gulf of mexico.

strengthening is possible but not like it was before. back here at home we want to show you the doppler. we've had a couple of showers and thunderstorms out there today. this is expected to continue on and off through out the day. a couple of thunderstorms around dc. in baltimore a few showers starting to diminish. could see a few sprinkles on your wind shield. through the afternoon maybe a few more thunderstorms developing. that's just the beginning of a storm system moving our way that could bring bigger problems. for on on that here's marty. >> reporter: good afternoon the next 48 hours is going to be interesting. we have a rather large cold front moving our way. between the southeast side of that frontal boundary and the northwest side there's a 9 degree difference. we have unstable air. starting tomorrow we could see a slight risk for some severe weather here. that may increase as we move into friday with potential gusty

welcome back. clouds over the city, but we've tried to see a few peaks of sunshine. we're locked in between the same things we've been talking about, a storm to the west, a front stalled to the south. we're going to see some movement over the next few days. still just couple of showers and thunderstorms, most of them down to the south today. south of dc. at this point there are some thunderstorms over dc. we have seen a couple of spotty showers over the city, that's about it. that's going to

change not only today but really the next few afternoons. we'll switch it over and show you. here's the clouds coming up from the south. notice not that far away. it is clear in western parts of the state. we have got sunshine. that's why it's 87 in cumberland, baltimore 87 but we never dropped all that much over night with those clouds around. most people comfortable in the 80s with dew points in the upper 60s. there's not much of a wind to move things along. we're going to see the weather pattern start to take hold. this is the front we've been talking act the past cup -- about the past couple of days. it's going to draw up some of this moisture from the south. we will see scattered and thunderstorms today. as that western front gets closer it's going to mix up our atmosphere and bring in a new round of showers and thunderstorms. tomorrow there is the chance for severe weather. it pushes it all the way down to baltimore. that's just the beginning. take a look at this front. it's really going to crank up as it moves off to the east.

by friday this becomes a pretty big storm, really bombing out to our northwest and swinging this cold front through. some heavy rain in any one of those thunderstorms. this will slowly try to pull out of here on saturday. still the chance for some showers around thunderstorms lingering into -- and thunderstorms linger into saturday. ernesto back down to a tropical storm moving off to the west at about 50 mile answer hour. sustained wind but it's moving at 15. it hovers along the coast , may gain some strength. back here at home, 89 for our high. maybe a few peaks of sunshine out there. a shower or thunderstorm possible. showers and thunderstorms tonight. tomorrow we see that western front coming in, maybe some strong thunderstorms through the day. 91 for our high. it cranks up more so thursday night into friday. whether he have that five day coming up shortly for you. still to come, the latest on

in today's wjz health watch, cholesterol levels for the children in the u.s. seem to be
