and that controlled intensity that he brings to everything that he does and when you watch them together there you see the stones you see how they bear down when it's getting back to this kind of music. when it's not about a big arena that you have to play to the back row, when it's about what it is that drives the heart of this music and you just see them digging into these songs and you see you know, what it was that those great bluesmen meant to them and showed them. i think that's what you see here that you really don't get the chance to see even when they were starting their career performing this kind of material. it was still sort of translating that through a rock and roll presentation. here you see it back at that real essence and that's you know, that's such a treat to be documented like this. >> well and you have to think that this is even take the stones today with all the stadium tours and the mega-tours that all the musicians play, you have to think that they still really enjoy this and this is what it's all about because it's about the music.

there's no special effects there's no anything. it's just the music and there's a hundred people in the club. >> well and left to their own devices we know what keith richards will sit and listen to are old blues records, old country records, you know the things that made him love and want to play this music. and i think that's what you feel in every frame of the show is, you know this is why we do this this is when this really matters. >> and when you think about from muddy waters' standpoint coming from the mississippi delta coming to chicago. that pretty much was the birth of the chicago blues era. so when you think about just the effect that muddy waters had on the entire, you know, genre. it was robert johnson for sure but then muddy waters. >> but keep in mind here you know this is the stones coming onto his territory in his town, his stage playing his songs. so you know, sure, it's a great lift for him when he went out and opened shows for eric clapton. it's a great lift for him, all the stones went and saw him. but he doesn't he's not backing down and playing satisfaction here. he's playing hoochie coochie man. the stones know how to do that.

[applause & cheers] thank you, and welcome. i'm so excited today to be speaking to you about the incredible science of happiness and how it can transform your life. if you'll give me just one hour of your time, i can show you this incredible science of happiness and how you can use it to not only feel happier but also to create an advantage in every aspect of your life. it turns out we can improve your health, your energy change everything about your connections with other people but here's the thing. you've probably heard speakers and read books about how if you just eat 16 blueberries then you're going to be healthier, then you're going to be happier for the rest of your life. or if you just buy this new exercise contraption and do it for about 20 hours a day, then you're going to feel happier. or if you just invest in this one fund, you're going to have millions of dollars when you retire, then you'll be happier. but what if we

had it backwards? what if it turns out that we had the whole formula wrong. see, in each of those moments, we think well, if i just lose 5 to 10 pounds then i'll feel happier. who all thought that at some point in their life? right? or when i retire then i'm going to feel happier. in each of these moments happiness is off in the future. but it turns out scientifically happiness is actually the fuel that allows your brain to be more successful at achieving all those goals. i wrote a book called "the happiness advantage," and in it i describe all this research about how happiness not only puts a smile upon your face but it changes every business educational, health outcome, it actually impacts every aspect of your life. we find that students do much better in school on tests when their brains are positive. we find that you're much more successful at work when your brain is positive as well. did you know happiness significantly improves your brain heath, improving your memory and your ability to do different tasks? it increases your energy by up to 31%-- that's phenomenal! it decreases your heart disease by 30%. this

could be a life or death decision for you. a 23% drop in fatigue related symptoms like headaches and backaches, which would be wonderful. it decreases our chances of depression by up to 31%. we find you're more successful at losing weight that exercise is more enjoyable. you make better financial decisions, so all those things you were wanting to do, happiness actually makes you better at doing those. and the list goes on and on. now how does that sound? it sounds fantastic, right? the question is, how do we do that? how do we create that type of happiness in our lives with all the challenges and all the habits we've already formed in our life. what i'd like to talk to you about today are 5 researched habits 5 incredibly simple and actually really fun habits that you can do in your life and in doing so rewire your brain for higher levels of optimism. we can change our life. happiness, scientifically is a choice, and we know this because as we do these habits what we find is you can choose to have your happiness increase

merely by changing yr mind-set or your habits. let me tell you an incredible study that was done on nuns. now i love nuns; nuns are fantastic. nuns, they all wear the same clothes, they all eat the same food they all live in the same place, as researchers we don't have to pay 'em very much they're perfect research subjects! but what we found is it allows us to control everything about their life to find out what really is the connection between happiness and health. and here's what they did. they had nuns in the 1930's, write down into a journal, basically like an autobiography their thoughts that they're having in their life. then they collected them and had people like you and me read them. and we would decide based upon the words that were there if they're positive or negative words, we'd put them into the happiest pile, the second happiest, the third happiest and the fourth happiest pile, the least happy nuns, just based upon these journals. now, this was a longitudinal study so what they were looking for was how does their happiness affect their health long term. and this is phenomenal. what they found, this should be life-changing for you,
