deserve a simple vote. and the westminster dog show, banana joe takes home the top prize at the westminster kennel dog show. this is the "cbs morning news" for wednesday, february 13th, 2013. good morning. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. well, this morning it appears the manhunt for a former los angeles policeman suspected in a deadly campaign against the l.a. police department is over. law enforcement officials believe the massive manhunt for christopher dorner ended about 80 miles east of los angeles in big bear, california. man thought to be dorner barricaded himself inside a cabin and opened fire. the cabin suddenly caught fire and burned to the ground. the sheriff's department says unidentified human remains have been found inside. now edward lawrence is in big

bear this morning. good morning, edward. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. investigators were just able to going side the cabin this morning and find out there were human remains of a body. they'll have to use forensic testing to positively i.d. exactly who the body is but they do believe it's christopher dorner. sources tell cbs news christopher dorner is inside this bushed out cabin. police cannot yet identify the body, but they do believe dorner was inside when the cabin caught fire. police had the cabin surrounded at the time. >> and there's no indication at all that he escaped during the fire. >> we believe he's still inside the cabin, yes. >> reporter: the police picked up his trail tuesday after someone reported being carjacked. >> mr. dorner jumped out in front of my truck, and he stopped me at gunpoint. he said i don't want to hurt you. he said get out, walk up the road, and take your dog with you.

cbs reporter carter evens captured the fire fight on his cell phone camera. two police officers were hit. one is now dead. the other wounded. officials focused their search on the big bear area after the police found his pickup truck burning in the woods here. police went door to door searching cabins for the suspect, but bless learn head didn't get very far from where his truck was found. >> the cabin he was hiding out in, and we don't know for how long, it could have been for some time, was actually across the street from the police command post where they'd been running this operation from. >> reporter: dorner is believed to have killed four people since february 3rd. he posted a manifesto on facebook claiming he was seeking revenge for being fired from the lapd. until the remains can be positively identified, the lapd says that they will continue protective details on 50 families.

>> susan mcginnis in washington. thank you. well, the president also pushed his case for quick action on immigration reform. mr. obama called for stronger border security and a responsible pathway to earned citizenship. >> we know what needs to be done. and as we speak, bipartisan groups in both chambers are working diligently to draft a bill and i applaud their efforts, so let's get this done. send me a comprehensive immigration bill in the next few months and i'll sign it right away, and america will be better for it. let's get it done. the president's proposals like immigration reform face a divided congress including a house that has an agenda of its own. nancy cordes has more. >> the republicans are not reacting so positively to the president's state of the union

address as they did to his inaugural address. this time their address has been more muted and they did rise and applause a few times during his speech when he talked about immigration reform and some of his job creation proposals, when he talked about ending the war in afghanistan, and when he talked about improving health care for soldiers and veterans. but there are a number of things that he called for that will be very difficult to get through a republican-controlled house, most notably gun control measures, particularly when it comes to an assault weapons ban, but also some of his immigration ideas, some of his ideas when it comes to minimum wage which he said he'd like to see come to $9 an hour. republicans are saying let's see what you can get through the democratically controlled senate fit and then we'll consider your proposal. nancy cordes cbs news, capitol hill. well, coming up on "cbs morning news," continuing coverage of the state of the union.

all-time high set in october of 2007. the nasdaq fell 5. gas prices keep going up. aaa says the cost for a gallon of gas nationwide is now $3.60. that's up 7 cents in one week and 30 cents in the last month, and it could get worse. the government says gas prices should peak at an average of $3.73 a gallon in may. comcast will buy the rest of nbcuniversal from ge way ahead of schedule. the cable company will purchase the remaining 49% for $16.7 billion. comcast will also buy nbc's 30 rockefeller plaza for $1.4 billion. comcast has owned a majority stake of nbcuniversal since january 2011. and good news for travelers. according to a new government report, airlines lost fewer bags last year. the nation's airlines lost or damaged three bags for about every 1,000 passengers.
