is wjz, maryland's news station. campus murder. a college student fatally stabbed. >> it is crazy. he will not see his baby. >> his pregnant girlfriend and eyewitness tell us about the crime. >> reporter: good evening. thank you for joining us. sadness and disbelief on the eastern shore tonight. a promising college student killed right in front of his friends and his own brother. wjz is live with the emotional reaction. >> reporter: as you can imagine the victim's family and friends are devastated as are many on that eastern shore campus that has been rocked by this murder during their homecoming weekend. >> just like that, he is tkpw- p. >> reporter: r hoda grieves over her boyfriend. >> that is all i care about is the baby -- that he created.

i have to tell the baby that your father is gone because of careless behavior, nonsense. >> reporter: it happened 9:30 saturday night as his kous and i know younger brother came to visit him at school during this homecoming weekend. >> he died in my arms. >> reporter: they drove across campus to get food. they encountered three other young men in the street. >> i tried to tell them get out of the middle of the street. after they start like -- they start talking and all of this other stuff ask my brother like when he seen danger he put himself -- he made sure we were safe, you know what i am saying. he went out. >> reporter: st. clair was stabbed in the chest. the police now looking for the killers. >> investigators do not believe it was a random act. >> reporter: st. clair recorded music and his popularity on the eastern shore made him a target for jealousy. his girlfriend said though he

liked to party he was a brilliant mind with a 3.8gpa who planned to become a doctor one day. now his family wants justice as they prepare for a future without him. >> he left his baby girl who will grow up and know how great his father was. >> reporter: the police have not said anything about a motive and for now they do not have much of a description of the suspects to go on, either. although they are 3 young african-american males in their late teens or early 20s. >> not a lot of details right now, derek, thank you. anyone with information on the murder is urged to call maryland state police at the princess anne bearics. you can remain anonymous when you make that call. in the wake of that murder another university of maryland student was remembered today. more than 100 people attended a memorial for college park student steven rain. the police say he was killed by his off campus roommate on tuesday. prince gorge's county police say a graduate student, green, set fires in the basement and

backyard of the home to draw his roommates out in the open and then he shot them. rain died in the front yard, another housemate was able to escape. green died from a self- inflected gunshot wound. he was from baltimore county. olympian oscar pistorus career is on hold. -- pistorius career is on hold. he is charged with murdering his girlfriend. >> reporter: south african runner oscar pistorius is leaving the track behind. he canceled all future races to focus on fighting murder charges. the police arrested the double amputee track star on thursday. prosecutors say the 26-year-old shot his girlfriend, model reeva steenkamp. he is charged with premeditated murder. but he claimed he thought he

was shooting an intruder. >> tragedy unfolded. we can only give oscar our support at this point in time. >> reporter: now, new details are coming out about what happened inside of the house. cbs news has learned that the police believe she slept in the same bed as pistorius and was in her nightgown when she was shot in the bathroom and then she locked herself in the bathroom where she was shot in the head, hand and arm. the police took a gun from the home and found a bloody bat. it is unclear if that was used as a weapon. the runner's family visited him at a police station over the week skpebd say they are standing by him. >> we have -- weekend and they say they are standing by him. >> we have had support on a global scale. >> reporter: locals prayed for both of them at church service. >> show the love of god in the situation. >> reporter: lawyers for the runner are preparing for the next court date later this

week. back to you. >> now, steenkamp's funeral is on tuesday. all operations halted on tuesday after a shooting left the trainee critically injured. the police plan to include trainings but firearms training is on hold. investigation into the shooting is underway and six officers have been suspended. two men, include ago baltimore city firefighter, are accused tonight of running a prostitution ring. the illegal business involved a minor. >> 30-year-old swreupl ons, a baltimore firefighter and 33- year-old franklin coit face federal charges. accused of running a prostitution ring. they say the business used underaged woman. >> if you run a prostitution business, if you have somebody under 18 involve inside that

business you face a mandatory minimum 10 years in federal prison. the u.s. attorney says the men faced their prostitution ring out of this former warehouse. and it is a crime simmons faced before. back in 2010, baltimore county detectives responded to a prostitution ad posted by simmons. he received a 1-year probation and a fine. but he kept his job. now, his office is aggressively pursuing sex trafficking crimes, especially those involving teens and children. >> in a case in which the under age teen appears to be a prostitute or advertised as one, those cases are going to receive the highest priority of attention from the federal government. >> reporter: according to court do you means, simmons posted a $50,000 bond and was released. >> as of tonight he is

suspended from the fire department without pay pending an investigation. a standoff comes to an end. a 38-year-old suspect surrenders but not before stabbing a teenager. the standoff lasted 2-1/2 hours at a home in hagerstown. charged with attempted murder. the police say they saw a woman running from the home with a knife sticking out of her chest. the victim does have serious injuries. meanwhile, in baltimore, three men are behind bars in a string of robberies, charged with 24 convenient store robberies in baltimore city and county. the robbers targeted 7-eleven, royal farms and stores from late december through early february. in all of the cases one suspect drove and the other one stayed in the car while the others robbed the store. inspirational stories at today's black history oratory contest. for years we have been a sponsor and now this year we get to showcase more talented

it is cold and windy out there? 24 degrees. chilly first winning forecast. car bombs leave hundreds dead and more wounded. 37 people were killed by bombs that tore through shopping areas all within minutes of each other. the explosions targeted outdoor markets. it is the third time this month that a tax claim more than 20 lives in a single day. talk about signs, they found a human skull in the woods with a lot of evidence. they found it under an interstate bridge. at a closer look the skull has a huge hole right through the forehead. pretty clear it came from a bullet. the police responded to the scene and they found several more bones. the remains have been sent to

the corpors -- coroners office. a toddler's mother claims the man sitting next to her was drinking alcohol and complaining about her son. the mother tried to avoid him by holding the toddler and standing near the bathrooms but then she says when they sat back down the man called her son the "n" word. >> he said it again but even more hateful and he office my face, i pushed him away. >> reporter: the mother said she started to cream and it drew concern. that is when the businessman slapped her son in the face. get this. an fbi agent happened to be on the plane and that man is now facing a federal assault charge and his name has been publicized all over the country. a sad day for the music

world. mindy mccredy passed away. the coroner has not released the information but it is believed the singer ended her own life. she had a history of failed attempts. also in celebrity news, crowds overrun a houston shopping mall. they were looking for stars. the shoppers say they saw tweets and instagrams pictures of singers and basketball players at the mall during the nba all-star weekend. so, they all went to the mall. looking for neo, bryant but these folks were disappointed. a fire marshall had to shutdown the mall and fans who did get inside say that the stars were blocked by heavy security. >> speaking of crowds, the regents busiest airport hit another milestone. baltimore's own marshall airport is reporting record passenger and shipping numbers for 2012. it seems biz tecertain he has been. tim williams explains why.
