i didn't want to lose it. >> fire officials have ruled out weather as a possible cause. they're investigating whether an arsonist may have set the fire. >> this is a crime scene until proven other wise. >> as crews returned from the fire lines of residents crowded the streets to show their appreciation. the wild fire may have destroyed hundreds of homes but thousands of others were saved. >> downed power lines are preventing some residents from returning home. a developing story. fbi agents are on the tarmac at nuwark's liberty airport right now. they are questioning a passenger who stood up in the cabin of the united airlines jet and yelled everyone on board was being poisoned. the pilot decided not to divert the plane. it arrived at 2:00 this afternoon. right now there's no indication anyone was actually poisoned. we'll bring you

updates on this story as soon as we get them. jury selection begins in the trial of the off-duty police officer charged in the death of a teen. denice is live with more on this for us. denice. >> reporter: baltimore county police officer james laboard is accused in the death of 17-year-old christopher brown. police say last june laboard chased brown after a group of teens threw rocks at his front door. laboard found brown hiding in the bushes. he's accused of pulling him out. brown died of asphyxiation after a struggle with the off-duty officer. the jr. must decide if laboard acted appropriately during that altercation >> thank you. laboard is facing two counts of manslaughter but maintains his innocence. today family and friends say a final good-bye to a 10-year-old cecil county girl who was raped and murdered. funeral services were held today for cam ri ring at the crunch funeral home in northeast married. ring's body was found

one week ago not far from the home she was staying at. richard madden is charged with the rape and murder. wjz talks to the girl's god mother coming up at 5:00 and 6:00 today. twice today baltimore county firefighters rush today a group home in parkville. the second time they ordered everyone out. mike schuh explains why several people were evacuated. >> 8 people were taken to the hospital, four patients, four staff. the assistance director said right now they are all feeling better. >> the windows are open but the front door warns of danger. here at midnight a person is found unconscious. >> came in, treated the patient and transported. >> the fire department left. an hour later, another call. >> this is a group home for those with mental disabilities. all four patients and four staff members were transported to hospitals. six were in need of

father's day catholic mass in utah. police say 35-year-old charles jennings junior walked into the service hand in hand with his wife and went up to his father and shot him in the head. james evans is in critical condition but expected to survive. his son-in-law was captured after fleeing in a stolen pick up truck. police haven't released a motive for the shooting. jennings had made previous threats. a brave mom in texas takes on a man armed with a knife to protect her children. she was pulling out of a parking lot when they realized they weren't in the car alone. >> dorothy baker was just driving home with her sons, ages 5 and 2 when a man kept up out of the third row. . >> it was scary. >> he had a knife. >> threatening my kids with the knife, threatening to hurt them. >> he wanted money. >> i asked him how much

a.m.. >> i said it's summer. >> it feels like sum mer. i consider it summer anyway. >> okay. >> it's not too bad of a day. yes, it feels a little humid . we have the chance for a few thunderstorms this afternoon. i want to take you to first warning doppler weather radar right now. i want to draw your attention to cecil county. we do have a severe thunderstorm warning that is in effect until 5:30 as we head into the afternoon. it's all because of this one storm cell that has strengthened to that severe weather criteria. it's just going to skirt the very north eastern portion of cecil county. we will be keeping a close eye on that. it's moving around 45 miles per hour towards the southeast. yes, it does have some hail in there as well. it will skirt again just the very north eastern portions of cecil county over the next hour or so. we are warm out there. around 86 degrees right now in baltimore. 82 in elkton. dew point around 65. thing s feel very humid and even soupy as

getting hit in the head by a line drive. this is the latest head injury in the sport. it has some asking if major league baseball to do more to protect pitchers. >> it's one of the most disturbing sights in many baseball, a pitcher denseless, getting h hit in the head by a ball traveling more than 100 miles an hour and reaching the mound in 1/3 of a second. alex cobb said he woke up with only a minor headache the day after being hit by a line drive. he's hardly the only victim. last month j.a. happ had to be removed on a stretcher. brandon mccarthy got hit and now has seizures. >> when you see it happen and when you see line drives and hard ground balls go up the middle it crosses your mind. >> it's not just major leagueers. gun ner was

the last few days of spring believe it or not. we only have like 4 more days before summer officially arrives. it feels like summer out there today. our normal high is around 84. take a look at temperatures right now. we're around 86 officially at the airport. some warmer than average. the dew point in the mid 60s. not overly humid but sticky. north winds at 5. 82 in elkton and a

thunderstorm just to the northeast of cecil county. it's going to be effecting wilmington, primarily. 77 ocean city. still nice down there, 85 in washington. locally temperatures ranging around the low to mid 80s for this time of year. that's about average. a little shower that move ed d offshore here from the edgewood area and aberdeen moving off to the east, northeast. not very strong. that's over the bay now. a tiny shower north of emmitts berg. it's going to totally miss cecil county. it's heading for the wilmington county. even though they have a warning don't think it's going to effect that region, at least not based on the current movement of that particular cell. west winds there at 7 pushing those things away. most areas all day long have seen this southern wind. tomorrow it goes back to a north or northwest wind.

there's a front approaching tomorrow that could bring showers. this afternoon a weak line across the great lakes. we could see some scattered thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon. you can see some stuff here in western pa and mainly down to the south of our region. there's a tiny depression moving towards beli z. it's going inland tonight and it will die out. that's good news. cooler air on the way as this front approaches. by wednesday, thursday temperatures getting cooler than average with drier air coming in. south winds 5 to 10 knots on the bay. the bay temperature around 74. tonight there may be a shower or thundershower. 66 by morning. tomorrow a day just reich today but a slightly better chance of a thunderstorm and there could be some brief
