the harbor opens today. it's the largest reproduction of a pacific coral reef at the national aquarium here. jessica kartalija is live at the black reef exhibit. good afternoon. >> reporter: good afternoon . you know, we really lucked out today. it's absolutely beautiful in here. i want to tell you to take a look at this. check out all these sharks. all these animals now in their new home here at black tip reef. a breathtaking exhibit of color, life and movement. just a crowd bright and early this morning for the ribbon cutting ceremony. the mayor floated into the shark invested waters on a boat to cut the ribbon along with the aquariums ceo. the 260,000 gallon tank is filled with

coral. it represents the pacific reef. because living coral is so crucial to existence of sharks and fish and the turtle that's also in here, they needed to design rep ri cals. so they're all painted to look exactly like they would in the indo pacific. guests can get an up close and personal view of the exhibit. there's a new floor top out viewing window that allows everyone to get right up in there. >> black tip reef is the enhancements to the aquarium. it's just right to do it on our 32nd anniversary and show people the incredible showcase for coral reefs and the sharks that are there to protect them. >> reporter: now believe it or not the sharks have been here

for about a year or so. they wanted to test everything out, make sure the sharks were okay and all the fish were healthy. as you can imagine, they can't just dump everybody in here. they have to get everyone used to each other. first the fish in with all the coral and then slowly they add the sharks in one by one. we'll have much more on that coming up today on wjz. don, we're going to check with you in just a little bit. first let's go to the weather guys. i have to tell you, it feels pretty humid in here and it feels very humid outside. >> well, i think you're right about that. it feels tropical. those sharks and all that reef will feel at home in town today. we are looking at a day where rain has moved through already. we had last night is strong system roll through the region. right now what we're left with while we don't have any rain immediately in the area, that rain is now in west virginia and moving in our direction, we do have cloud cover. those clouds come with dew points, some moisture out

it is cloudy and 80 degrees in. a military judge resumes the fort hood military trial. his attorneys said hassan is seeking the death penalty, something hassan denies. he has chosen to represent himself but he was given a team of attorneys for counseling. he's accused of hoping fire and killing 13 and injuries dozens more at ford hood. alex rodriguez's suspension will go into effect today.

>> well, certainly. unless you're inside where jes sica with all the tropical air. it's definitely all a theme pretty much with that tropical reef down at the aquarium. right now 81 degrees with 71 your dew point. very, very humid, sticky and muggy out there. southwest wind as marty talked about is going to continue to bring in that warm humid air. temperature range 72 oakland to 84 at patapsco river. 79 annapolis and kent island, 81 columbia and rock hall, 80 bel air, 82 westminster. winds coming from from the southwest are going to bring temperatures up to at least our average, which is now 86, soon to be 85. coming in from that direction, most of our neighbors are in our range. cooler air to the northwest. we have a lot of disturbance around. we expect there's going to be a few ripples coming through here unfortunately this afternoon.

the crew. they literally just went underwater in full scuba gear to swim around with the sharks. they're checking to make sure everything is good here at black tip reef. swimming around with the fish. of course, the 518 pound turtle down there. what an exciting day. everything is huge success. we're going to check in with marylanders marty bass with the wjz mobile weather lab outside the aquarium. how is it look oukt out there? >> reporter: it's interesting. a lot of folks are coming in specifically to see this exhibit. everybody is coming by the wjz mobile weather lab saying hi. they've come down to see an attraction at a venue they have been to. you have to be new and improved to keep the money flow going. a job well down by the national aquarium in baltimore. we know tomorrow we can have more disturbed weather
