scott. >> i'm jessica kartalija. >> here's what people are talking about today, a resort hotel near orlando, florida starting to collapse over night. evan lambert reports from clairmont, florida. >> a giant sinkhole swallowed a three story hotel at the summer bay resort. >> we heard shaking and people are yelling get out of the building. >> one vacationer caught the collapse on his cell phone. >> we just started running out and throwing our stuff over the balcony to get what little bit we had. >> about half of the structure was reduced to a pile of rubble while another part of the building is still sinking. >> the whole corner is falling. >> authorities started evacuatt guests after they started hearing popping and

cracking sounds. >> one person had to break out after a window to escape. >> the developer said the ground was tested 15 years before the resort was built. the sinkhole is about 50 feet wide and 15 feet deep. several nearly villas evacuated as a precaution. >> florida has a long and ongoing problem with sink hols. the state sits on a bed of limestone. a kidnapped teenager rescued over the weekend is reunited with her father. good afternoon, ron. >> reporter: good afternoon. hannah anderson's family is thrd ed after fearing the worst for nearly a week. >> i'm so glad she's safe. >> me too. >> that she's okay. she's such a strong girl. >> reporter: before leaving for

idaho to pick up his daughter hannah anderson's father texted cnn that he was nervous and excited. james demagio kidnapped hannah last week. he set fire to his home killing hannah's mother and brother. someone saw the story on the news and called the fbi. rescue teams were dropped 2 hours away and they surrounded the camp and demagio was shot and killed by fbi agents. >> thank you. the fbi says demagio had an unusual infatuation with hannah. deliberations could begin today in the karla porter murder for hire trial. closing arguments are now underway. >> karla porter and her attorneys looking for similar ing for -- for sympathy

from a jury. >> karla porter says after years of physical and verbal abuse from her husband, ray, she felt she had to hire a hit man to kill him. in march of 2010 that's what she did. with help from family members she arranged for walter bishop to shoot her husband in the head at the hess gas station they owned together. he called 911 and said he was shot by a robber. >> do you know the person? >> no, i've never seen him before. he's block and he just came in the side door. i went out and i came in. >> under pressure during the police interrogation she finally confessed. >> are you understanding what we're saying to you? >> i think so. >> we know. we know. we're not stupid. >> everybody told you how wonderful he was. i did want you to know he did hit me and stuff sometimes. i just wanted someone to hit him, i didn't

want this to happen. >> the abuse was more severe than she originally told police. defense psychologists took the stand to say karla had severe depression, ppd and a condition called battered spouse syndrome and her repeated attempts over several years to try to find someone to kill her husband was her way of coping with the stress of abuse. >> the jury expected to begin their deliberations later this afternoon. in towson, derek valcourt, wjz eyewitness news. tonight the controversial plan to give $107 million to the harbor point development will go to a preliminary vote in the baltimore city council. groups against the financing say they will continue to fight the president obama poe sal and will protest outside of city hall. it has the votes to pass the 15-member council. this year's first meteor shower will occur above the

skies of maryland. we have skies of last year. hundreds of meteors are expected to blaze through the sky every year. they produce for fire balls than any other meteor shower. hopefully we're going to see more sunshine today. outside right now it's mostly cloudy, quite sticky and it's going to get warmer than it was this past weekend. wjz is live with first warning weather. meteorologist tim williams out in the out back and chelsea ingram over in the weather center. good afternoon, chelsea. >> hello. that humidity certainly back ine picture today. temperatures are rather warm. the upper 70s to lower 80s in a lot of spots. 83 baltimore, 81 hagerstown. cooler out west. very warm in the dc area, 87 degrees. they take over the cake. locally, looking at temperatures in the low 80s across the regions as well. 82 kent island, 80 rock hall. dew points on the rise. we're sitting in the upper 6

0s and mid 70s for some. humidity is a big factor in today's weather. as far as the rain is concerned though, looking at first warning doppler weather radar not seeing a whole lot going on. seeing a few thunderstorms in the jersey area. what can we expect? out back to meteorologist tim williams for more on that. >> reporter: thank you. things are going to change. the timing of that is going to be playing out over the next 1 to 18 hours. giving you an idea, there's a low to our north that the not necessarily directing the energy. high pressure has eased off the coastline. it's going to allow for humidity along with a front that's been stalled to our south to start moving in. what that's going to mean is with a front approaching from the west and that moisture and humid start to move into that, they're going to collide. they will start to slash, bring the chance for showers and

the trial of hassan is scheduled to resume today. he's representing himself in the fort hood shooting case. he's watched in silence as more than 40 witnesses testified. army private bradley manning's attorneys presented their case today. they said manning will give a statement before the defense rests on wednesday. he faces up to 90 years in prison for leaking classified information to the website wikileaks. the epa plans to examine a north idaho sand dune. nathan wasner was trapped for 6 hours last june. geologists think a tree trunk created the dune that

welcome back. a few peaks of sunshine out there maybe. over all very humid. temperatures already in the 80s. 83 baltimore, 87 dc. dew point at 67. some places seeing dew points in the 70s. so humidity certainly a factor. the big picture, we have a lot going on. we have a lot of precipitation, a lot of energy located towards our west. that's all headed our way, but not until we get into the over night hours tonight. let me go ahead and take you through what you can expect over the next couple of hours. heading into the over night hours a lot of rainfall push in. particularly for southern maryland. tomorrow morning possibly a wet morning commute, sprinkles out there, for the baltimore, around the metro area. then tomorrow afternoon we will see another round of showers and thunderstorms move through. the areas east of 95

what do you expect? >> it's not too bad right now. it's actually pretty comfortabls you know, the humid is rising, the dew points are up. take a look at these forecast numbers for the next few days. in the few days or normal high will be 85 degrees. after all this activity tonight and tomorrow goes through, the temperatures drop. 82 on wednesday, 79 on thursday. that gives us an over night low in the 50s. 81 on friday, 82 on saturday. it will start to feel more like september. it will start to feel just like in time to go back to school. i don't know. maybe a little dose of what it's going to be like this fall, cooler. >> 62 for a low, wow. >> sounds nice. scombltd at 10:00 it's the new show the dome followed by eyewitness news at 11:00 tonight. a 12-year-old from north carolina makes an awesome discover why while on vacation in arkansas. he was with his family at the crater of diamond state park. after looking
