this is wjz tv, baltimore. >> from the city to the counties to your neighborhood, now it's complete coverage. it's wjz, maryland's news station. police under fire after an overnight crash kills three people and leaves one fighting to survive. their loved ones want justice. >> i think the police need to be charged with this. >> they say it was an officer's actions that set off this chain reaction nightmare. >> hello, everybody. >> here's what people are talking about tonight. >> two families blame police officers for the northeast baltimore crash that left their loved ones trapped in flames. now there is intense scrutiny over the city's no-chase policy. we have the department's response new tonight. >> reporter: flames engulfed vehicles in a fiery accident at york road and northern parkway

early tuesday morning. it happened as 26-year-old johns and brown fled from officers trying to pull them over. johns and brown died after their honda accord slammed into a jeep. the passenger in that jeep, angel, also died. angela baker's father was driving the jeep. he's in critical condition. >> he didn't want no trouble with anybody. >> reporter: she's seen here with one of her daughters. the family doesn't understand how this happened. >> the department seems to try to take less responsibility for what is happeningment. >> reporter: city police are conducting a thorough investigation. family members of baker want to know if the officers involved followed the city's no-pursuit policy and if the police vehicle had lights and siren

operating. >> the vehicle did have emergency equipment. the officers were in plains clothes in a plain vehicle. >> reporter: all of it it is too much to bare for the family. she says her sister angel died just hours before angel's daughter here gave birth to her first child. and she's named angel's granddaughter hope. >> police identified the two officers as officer adam story and warren banks, ii. 35 maryland high school students are take ton the hospital after their bus crashes into a car. the accident happened this morning in waldorf in charles county. the bus slammed into the suv severely damaging both vehicles. five students required medical treatment for their injuries. the rest were checked out at

the hospital as a i from caution. the fbi reveals chilling surveillance video of the navy yard shooting. we are in washington with the troubling video and new clues in the investigation. >> reporter: aaron alexis believed he was being controlled by electromagnetic waves. this video shows 34-year-old alexis pulling into the parking garage after passing through a security gate. he walks through the front door with his backpack of weapons and ammunition, assembles the gun in the bathroom, and comes out ready to kill. >> the shotgun had been altered with a sawed off barrel. >> reporter: he makes his way to another floor. in the video, you see him hiding behind a wall before running toward the people in

the background. the shooting lasts more than an hour before alexis is shot and killed. this is the gun he used in the shooting with several hand- written etching saying better off this way. into the torment. and not what you'll say. the backpack he used to hide his weapons was left in the restroom. the evidence collected as of today shows signs of a delusional man. >> there are multiple indicators that alexis held a delusional belief that shows he thought he was being controlled by elf electromagnetic waves. >> reporter: he acted alone and had a valid pass to gain entry into the building. fbi agents do not believe alexis was targeting anyone in particular. >> fbi agents say evidence shows alexis was prepared to

die and affected the fate of his consequences. fbi agents are the on the ground in kenya tonight digging through what's left of an upscale shopping mall, trying to identify the bodies of hostages and terrorists still buried inside. kenyan authorities are denying claims that they used chemical weapons to end the attack. new video shows the full extent of the destruction. three floors collapsed after a fire and a series of explosions crippled part of the shopping complex. five days later, it still is smoldering. new images from the siege show a police officer coaxing a mother and her children from hiding. there are reports that as a helicopter hovered over head, militants started executing hostages and tossing their bodies off the roof. survivors say the gunmen let muslims live. this man begged the attackers for his life. >> i just told them to leave me

alone. >> reporter: a grenade blew off part of this man's foot. government official says the attack appeared to be well planned. they may have stashed their weapons inside the mall ahead of the attack. bomb disposal teams from the fbi are helping with fingerprint, dna, and ballistic analysis. kenya says it has 10 suspects in custody, five were killed in the shoot out. high alert after a tsa officer spots something in the sole of a passenger's shoe. the officer saw what looked like box cutter blades. further x-ratiod the blades were embedded in the right sole of a pair of running shoes. but then police determined they had been manufactured into the shoe. the passengers was released and allowed to catch their flight. honored from saving a

[ applause ] >> track truck driver bruce wood noticed smoke coming from the roof of the home three weeks ago. he was able to alert the couple inside, even help the family dog escape. he was presented with a hero pin for his bravery. speaking out for the first time since the infamous party bus brawl, jones is talking about the incident saying he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. wjz is live and we have more from jones and his teammates on that scandal. >> reporter: tonight, jacobi jones addressed the incident for what he says is the first and the last time. seen for the first time in public since the alleged party bus brawl, jones addresses the incident on his radio show.

>> i was in the wrong place at the wrong time. i did nothing wrong. >> reporter: jones admits he was on a party bus in d.c. but claims he did not get into a physical altercation with a stripper. police say jones was hit over the head with a champagne dottable. the incident sparked criticism from ray lewis. >> when you think about the ravens and the transition they've went through, they're missing leadership right now. >> things happen. ray knows better than that. i think we're usually a pretty good team with stuff like that. if you look around the league, there are a lot of leadership problems. >> we have a lot of leaders on this team and we like it that way. >> reporter: jones has apologized and he says it's time to move on. ravens fans are also eager to get past this incident. >> he's a young man and they

get in situations. >> i'm a ravens fans no matter what. >> reporter: no one was charged in the party bus incident. jones says there was no fight. a police report says an officer observed jones bleeding from the head. >> thank you. the woman involved in the altercation has posted on her twitter page that it was strictly a verbal confrontation. she also denies that she is a stripper. how far would you go for free chicken? we found over 200 people who would go so far as to camp out in a parking lot. you'll find them in eldersburg at the new chick-fil-a. they have been there since yesterday lined up for tomorrow's grand opening celebration where the first 100 in the door win a year's worth of free chicken. that should make the cows happy. >> very much so. i prefer an old chick-fil-a.

it is partly cloudy and 66 degrees in central maryland right now. the complete forecast is coming up. terrifying scene in suburban chicago as a small plane crashes into a crowded parking lot. the passenger was killed and the pilot is in serious condition. the plane hit a tree and a light pole before landing on several vehicles and exploding. no one on the ground was hurt. a witness says the plane was trying to land at a nearby airport. the death toll has risen to 285. villagers are trying to dig out from the 7.7 magnitude quake. the government has mobilized thousands of troops to bring supply toss the area. the earthquake was so violent that a new island was created from the earth rising from the sea floor. a man hunt is under way on

long island after one person was killed and another wounded near a popular mall. police say the shooting took place inside a light fixture store. a 63-year-old vendor fled the scene and drove toward the roosevelt mall. the mall and the school were placed on lock down for several hours this afternoon. police say they don't believe the suspect was on a random shooting spree. they say the motive was likely a dispute with the owner of the business. a los angeles firefighter and his 70-year-old mother are arrested on felony assault charges. they attacked a woman who was feeding stray cats in their neighborhood. they say they started yelling at the victim and then pulled her out of a car and beat her until she was unconscious. prosecutors say the attack was caught on surveillance. a high school in utah goes to an extreme measure to order discipline -- in order to discipline its football team. they have suspended the program because of academic problems

and alleged cyber bullying incident. the coach says the team will be reinstated once the players meet certain conditions. that includes community service and mandatory study hall and character education classes. sheriff's deputies are looking for the heavily armed suspects who robbed a bank today. both dressed in dark tactical gear with masks and guns. they rushed into the sovereign bank and got away with an undisclosed amount of money. cracking down on public outbursts. a con from veriable new set of rules for all county meetings -- no yelling, no cursing, no carrying signs. some say that's a violation of our right to free speech. >> reporter: a frustrated father forced to leave a town hall with baltimore county school officials. outbursts are now banned. council members just passed a

89 in phoenix. here in the east, you kind of see a dip, cooler temperatures here and much cooler temperatures out there. we may have a few days where we may get closer to the mid to upper 70s. not much in the changing of our weather. high pressure continues to dominate here in the eastern third of the country. we had sprinkles and a little bit of light rain across southern virginia. that's weakening as you see this wedge of dry air keeping this right across the mountains of virginia. it will weaken and move out to see. it looks like for next several days, no precipitation. tomorrow, friday, into the weekend as well. on the bay tomorrow, light east wind. the bay temperatures around 73. sunrise, sunset just about the same time. 6:58 and 6:57 which is typical for the first day or two of fall.
