hello everyone i am vick carter. here is what people are talking about tonight. new questions surround a fiery crash that killed three people early tuesday morning. police were following one of the cars, now we have learned there were attempts to stop that pursuit. more on the investigation. megan. >> reporter: those questions include when that pursuit ended and if it was a factor in that fatal crash. an explosive crash early tuesday morning. three people killed when this honda accord smashed into a jeep at york road and northern parkway. police say before the crash,

under cover officers were following the sedan after they observed suspected criminal activity. now sources tell wjz prior to the accident there were multiple radio transmissions ordering the officers to end the pursuit. an attorney for the officers speaking out for the first time said that is exactly what they did. >> when the officers did hear that command they did in fact follow that directive and they did in fact stop that pursuit. >> reporter: it is unclear how far police followed the the car and whether they were using lights and sirens. the department's pursuit policy, only allows a chase under strict circumstances. the police commissioner is promising a thorough investigation. >> there are issues i have concern with overall the incident that took place out there is kind of disturbing. >> reporter: family members say they still have unanswered questions. >> it just don't make no sense. doesn't make any sense they still chase the person. >> reporter: the only survivor,

of the crash her brother was driving the jeep. the question she wants to ask the officers. >> why. why you didn't stop. three people gone. >> reporter: an answer she hopes to get as the investigation continues. again questions remain about whether police policy was followed and exactly when the officers stopped. live at city police headquarters, megan mccorkell wjz eye itness news. we have requested the radio transmissions from the incident but police say they are not releasing them because of the ongoing investigation. a bank robbed in essex this afternoon several people walked into the bank and demanded cash. officers took several people into custody a short time later. investigators still are trying to determine if they are the ones responsible for the robbery. scary moments onboard a united airlines flight when there is a medical emergency in

the cockpit. kai jackson has more. >> reporter: tragedy in the skies on a united airlines flight the pilot of the plane had a heart attack. despite efforts to save him he died. a crisis in the air for united flight 1603. the boeing 737 left houston headed to seattle shortly after 8:00 p.m. the crew asked if there was a doctor onboard. >> yes, man down, chest compressions going on right now. i am not sure too much right now. >> reporter: then the plane made an emergency landing in boise idaho. >> i thought it was a passenger and it was a little bit more nerve racking to see it was a pilot. >> reporter: united says the captain suffered a heart attack at least two pass eninjuries rushed to help -- passengers rushed to help and started giving cpr. >> several people helped give him cpr all the way down and

then when they got the emts on there. >> there were 161 pass enjr.a crew of 6 -- passengers and a crew of 6 on the plane. the copilot started flying and eventually landed. >> emts came onboard they said let's do two more setget him off the plane. >> reporter: the airline is not releasing the pilot's name citing privacy e reasons. -- privacy reasons. >> flight crews are trained to handle medical emergencies. deadly terrorist siege at a kenyan mall a government official says it was the kenyan military not terrorists who caused three floors of the west gate mall to collapse. it may have happened when soldiers fired rocket propelled grenades inside. it is unclear if it caused any of the 61 civilian deaths in the attack. dozens more may be trapped

injuries are considered nonlife threatening. one day after a massive vehicle pile up, police are trying to figure out what happened to cause the crash. more on what happened along this major artery. >> reporter: sky eye chopper 13 over the mangled mess of metal, trucks on top of cars on top of trucks it happened 1:30 p.m., thursday, northbound i-83. >> for unknown reasons traffic began to slow down on the interstate. a tractor trailer was unable to stop in time and ended up rear ending another vehicle leading to a chain reaction. >> reporter: it involved four tractor trailers, five cars and one tow truck. the driver was jordan, from glen bernie. >> all of a sudden, i just felt a hard bang and was being pushed forward and the truck flipped over i guess i got

dragged more and it stopped. >> reporter: the pile up created major delays for thousands of commuters who use this highway every day to commute between maryland and southern pencil jane. the -- pennsylvania, the reck shut down several lanes. it took 7 hours to clear debris from the highway, state investigators looking into what went wrong. the tractor trailer that rear ended a vehicle was the initial cause you have to look at the the tractor trailer and driver and see if it was vehicle failure or driver failure. >> reporter: police took blood samples from several drivers as they try to figure out whether drugs or alcohol could have played a role in the crash. so far no charges have been filed in the crash. unusual sight in the skies above baltimore a blimp hovering over the city day after day. it belongs to the u.s. navy. why it is here and what it is doing. >> reporter: if you have looked

up lately you may have spotted this hiding in the clouds or hovering over baltimore's harbour. >> i have been seeing it all week like every day. >> reporter: a u.s. navy blimp almost 200 feet long is flying over baltimore. >> we were talking about it wondering what it was. >> i was coming down 95 and i am like what is with that blimp. >> reporter: u.s. navy research laboratory says it is a government research air ship conducting aerial mapping. and the lighter than air blimp began roaming on the 21st and can remain stationary more than 12 hours. it is mapping around the flight restriction zones around washington dc, places like the department of agriculture and our major airports. youtube video shows it propelled by two, 180 horse powered engines. the baltimore blimp as it is called online sparked twitter discussions people wanting to

right now very light east, southeast wind those easterly and northeasterly winds kept the clouds in for quite some time. there may be a little patchy fog in the valleys, early morning that will eventually burn off as a big area of high pressure, governing most of the east will continue to bring us some very pleasant weather now, a storm out to the west this will head out toward the great lakes it will drag a front through the area. some clouds, not expecting any precipitation. mostly just going to past well north we will see some clouds maybe a sprinkle or two. dry conditions as you can see. that will dominate for the next probably 5, 6 days in fact. by middle of next week we could be warming up. at this time pressure over the area begins to shift off the east coast eventually we will get some mild air that won't be until wednesday or thursday next week. meantime, pleasant, great weather all weekend long.
