this is wjz tv, baltimore. >> from the city to the counties to your neighborhood. now it's complete coverage, it's wjz, maryland's news station. the game will go on. late tonight, there's word the government shut down will not stop the navy air force football game in annapolis. >> congress remains deadlock and federal workers spend a third day without paychecks. we begin with breaking news. >> waves of relief in annapolis. the anticipated navy, air force rival football game will happen this weekend even though the federal government is still in a shut down stalemate. first we go to washington where the shut down is about to go into its third day. >> reporter: called congressional leaders to the

white house to look for a way to end it. >> the president reiterated one more time tonight that he will not negotiate. >> reporter: the battle over how to fund the government and the blame game continues. >> we're asking for a discussion and fairness for the american people under obamacare. >> we're through playing these little games. it's all focused on obamacare. >> reporter: hundreds of thousands of federal workers spent another day at home without pay. the director of national intelligence told lawmakers that includes about 70% of his civilian work force. >> this is severely damaging. >> reporter: employees not receiving a paycheck are prime time for foreign governments wanting to gain state secrets. >> 800,000 federal workers are still without a paycheck. >> some of those hardest hit --

military service academies and this weekend's big navy, air force game has been in limbo until tonight. the mid shipmen will take the field after all. we have the late-breaking news. >> reporter: that's right. this is exciting news for players as well as fans, but it doesn't solve the problem of making sure students are are educated. this is the reason for being in college in the first place. even though it was unclear at the time if the game would take place. >> i watched a few videos on how the shut down would affect you, but i never thought it would get anywhere near football. >> reporter: it's being heard loud and clear across the country. it affects a broad range of, whoers and citizens. big news about the game broke wednesday night. a spokesperson confirms that the game will be played on saturday. >> it's not going to happen. we have to prepare.

>> reporter: the government shutdown has already affected academics at the naval academy. >> some of us showed up and just studied. others were told not to go to class so they just stayed in their rooms. >> reporter: and classes where a military instructor cannot substitute have been canceled. the game is sold out. >> thank you. stay with wjz for complete coverage on the government shutdown. we'll bring you the latest on the negotiations and the impact here in maryland. eight people are dead tonight and more than a dozen injured after a fiery accident involving a church bus in tennessee. it happened on interstate 40 in jefferson county. the church bus blew a tire, crossed the median, and then hit an suv and a tractor trailer which burst into flames. 18 seniors were on board the bus, 6 were killed. 8 are in critical condition tonight. the service was held at a

baptist church to remember those who died. the group had been at a three- day event featuring gospel singers and speakers. an suv crashes into a house creating quite a mess. it happened around 6:00 p.m. tonight near thomas road and country club drive. the suv crashed into the living room. no one was hurt. police are trying to figure out why this crash happened. the search is on for multiple gunmen. one of the victims is in a wheelchair. we are live as police try to figure out why they were targeted. >> reporter: police say they still don't know how many gunmen they're searching for. police surround a middle river home. >> it's scary. it makes you want to keep your kids in the house. >> reporter: investigators comb this community after two men are found shot inside a house. friends identify them as father and son butch and brandon

jewel. >> it's breaking my heart. >> reporter: a long-time family friend says brandon jewel who is in his late 20s is in a wheelchair. >> it's just heartless. he's the kindest person that i know. why would somebody do that to brandon? >> reporter: the shooting appears to be a robbery attempt and the chiefs knew what they were after. >> right now we continue to investigate to determine what exactly happened. it does look like these victims were targeted. >> reporter: neighbors tell wjz the armed robbers broke in here through the back of the house off on alley. witnesses say they saw the suspects running down the alley with a shotgun after the shooting. >> we'll have forensics go into the house to try to determine how they got into the house. >> reporter: neighbors shaken by the shooting just hope the gunmen are caught soon. >> i think they need to be thrown under a jail. >> reporter: until they are, this community remains on edge. and again, police say they believe that father and son were targeted. so far, no arrests have been

made in the shooting. reporting live for wjz eyewitness news. >> brandon jewel is listed in serious condition. both he and his father are expected to survive. baltimore city police announce a public enemy number one. 26-year-old christopher good is wanted for attempted murder and domestic violence. last month good stabbed the mother of his child in the neck several times. that woman did survive. good is believed to be in south baltimore and is considered armed and dangerous. anyone with information is asked to call police. a man charged in a bomb hoax that forced the evacuation of jacksonville national airport is behind bars tonight. he approached a tsa agent and said he had a bomb in his backpack. the threat shut down the airport for five hours. no explosives were found. another man was arrested for acting suspiciously in the airport around the same time.

surprising and sad news about one of the world's best- selling authors. tom clancy died after a brief illness. we have more on this literary legend. >> reporter: as one of the most successful writers of military and political thrillers of all time, tom clancy kept readers on the edge of their seats. news of his death has shocked his fans across the world and here at home. >> it's a huge fan base of people, particularly male reeders of action and techno kinds of books. >> reporter: he was a minority owner in the orioles throwing out the first pitch in 1994. >> when i get involved in something, i get involved in it. that's my team. i have to go and watch and make sure they do it right. >> reporter: tom, a proud baltimoreian was a treasured friend and a valued partner. we are deeply saddened by tom's

it's clear, 66 degrees in central maryland right now. terrifying video taken inside a school bus during a multi-vehicle accident. the driver seen on the video hit a pickup truck and rear ended another bus. both buss were empty at the time of the accident. police say the female driver may be cited for not properly wearing her seat belt. the verdict tonight in the michael jackson wrongful death lawsuit. a california jury rejects the lawsuit clearing aeg live. the jackson family claimed they were negligent in hiring dr. conrad murray. murray was convicted of giving jackson an overdose while the singer was preparing for a concert tour. the jackson family was seeking $2 billion in damages. the number of attackers involved in the kenya mall massacre may not be as many as

first believed. this is the first look inside the damaged shopping mall since the terror assault killed at least 67 people there. there is new evidence that only four men may have had automatic weapons. they initially said 10-15. the video shocked the nation. now one person has been charged in a motorcycle road rage attack in new york. christopher cruz was arraigned on wreckless driving. his actions led to an ugly confrontation that led to a gang of motorcycle drivers surrounding an suv. the driver of the suv has not been charged for plowing into one of the bikers. prosecutors are still looking into the entire incident. southwest airlines fires the pilot involved in a frightening nose-first landing at la guardia. it happened in july.

16 people were hurt. the national transportation board says the captain took over from the first officer while the plane was just 400 feet from the ground. the nose gear collapsed and the plane skidded to a stop in the grass. a neighborhood in jupiter, florida is breathing a sigh of relief. this video shows deputy sheriffs removing the snake from a driveway. wildlife officials say the snake was a pet and either escaped or was released. it had eaten two cats and was capable of strangling a small child. someone in maryland is $189 million richer tonight. the only winning megamillions millionsmillions ticket. >> reporter: officials say it sold at a dash inn. >> this is the first time somebody hit the lottery in my

west. warm temperatures will continue. a weak front close to the area tomorrow may bring us a slight drop in temperature and then go right back into the very, very warm temperatures. i want to look at the gulf of mexico. this could develop. it's a big blob of clouds with shower activity. kind of diffused now. the conditions in the gulf are not favorable for a strong development, but it looks like it will hit up this way. later in the week, maybe monday night or tuesday, it may get forced east, northeast. might have a chance to bring us some rain by tuesday if a cold front can make it in the same time period, we might see some of that rain into our region. that's something we have to watch in the gulf of mexico. east winds 5-10 knots. the bay temperature around 70 degrees. tonight, 60 degrees, very mild. probably be 68 downtown.
