good afternoon. i'm don scott. >> i'm jessica kartalija. >> here's what people are talking about today. the severe weather moving through maryland right now. a cold front is coming into the region and most of the state is under a tornado watch until 5 o'clock this afternoon. some areas have already seen some heavy rain causing some localized flooding. the worst may be yet to come. taking a live look outside right now. it is humid and we have cloudy skies and on and off rain. looks like it might be on again. >> more on than off. >> wjz is live with first warning weather coverage. marty bass is in the out back and meteorologist chelsea ingram in the weather center. good afternoon. >> good afternoon. the good news is the cool front is going to cool us down but it's moving fast and furious. let me take you live to first warning doppler weather radar. we've got a line of storms pushing there you the region with some heavy rainfall about to make it into the city. i'll zoom in here just a bit for you. we have some red and even pinks.

that's an indicator we could have hail north of wood lawn. we will be getting this heavier rain in the metro in the next 20 to 30 minutes. again, moving extremely fast. this particular one located in the dc metro area. it's going to be pushing through fast and furious to some of these locations you see here on our storm tracker within just the next couple of minutes. we're going to go out back now to marty. he has your latest watchings and warnings. >> reporter: thank you very much. i can tell you this, we're at 41st street and the jfx. i'm looking directly north and west. that is a threatening sky. there's a wall of water coming my way. it's just a matter of time before we get soaked out here. we're going to show you the watch, warnings and advisory graphic. you will notice after you take a look at that strong line of storms on radar in washington and allegany county. at this point frederick county is out of the mix.

this weather has pressed off to your east. earlier this morning we had a tornado warnings just south of hagerstown. i need to point out that dorchester, somerset, wore chester and somerset county are no under the flood watch. water is going to start piling up on the eastern shore. everyone else has a tornado watch through 5 o'clock. charles and pg county has a severe thunderstorm warning in effect through 12:30. i want you to note how interesting this graphic is. not only are we getting fall thunderstorms but the bulk of this weather is north, as far north as albany and montreal. here comes the heavy rain. we'll have more with chelsea ingram during our first warning weather segment. now back inside so we can come inside. >> we could hear the rain coming down there. we have a school advisory this noon.

all after school and evening activities in harford county are canceled because of that tornado watch. remember to stay with wjz and first warning weather for complete coverage. for the latest to severe watchings and warnings go to cbsbaltimore.com. a maryland state trooper remains in critical condition at shock trauma after being hit by a motorist over the weekend. jacqueline kline was assisting another trooper early sunday morning when she was struck by the car 21-year-old enrique guzman was driving. kline was thrown into the back window of the trooper car and rolled into a ditch. the investigation continues. reports say guzman was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident. u.s. counterterrorism officers are questioning a captured al-qaeda leader aboard a navy ship today. the report for wjz on the latest of two special forces raids in africa

this weekend. >> al-liby is being questioned for his alleged roll in the 1998 bombings in africa. more than 220 people died in the last. before american special forces captured him in libya on saturday he was on the fbi's most wanted list and there was a $5 million bounty for his arrest. officials in libya called the operation an abduction and said libyan nationals should be tried in their own country. traveling over seas secretary of state john kerry defended the operation. >> the united states of america is going to do everything in its power that is legal and appropriate in order to enforce the law and protect our security. >> al-liby is expected to be transferred to new york to be put on trial. saturday in a separate raid navy seals stormed the compound to try to capture the master mind at the bombings

in kenya. the seals got into a fire fight and had to with draw. >> his family members say he's been living openly in libya for several years and did not have ties to terror groups. in washington dc it's still a case of who will blink first. the government shutdown now enters its second week. now congress is focusing on a more pressing deadline. mary bubala is live in the news room with more. >> reporter: good afternoon. 10 days before the threat of the default becomes real lawmakers on capitol hill are growing further apart on the issue. if a deal can't be reached the nation could default on its debt for the first time in u.s. history. treasury secretary jake lou said it could plunge

the economy back into a recession worse than 2008. good news though, a bill passed to pay federal employees for the shutdown. the shocks is down this morning because of this. the dow is down 51 points, the s&p 500 and nasdaq are also down as you see. gasoline prices are dropping. the longer the government shutdown stays in effect the lower may may go. there's less commuters on the road because of the furlough and it's the winter driving season. this weekend a gallon of regular was selling for $3.11 on the low. but here's a look at today's wjz pump watch. last month a gallon of regular cost $3.50, today it's $3.28 on average.

the ravens pick up their first road win of the season in miami. ron matz has today's fan cam and mark viviano has a look at the highlights. >> well, the nfl is week to week. hard to figure. you never know how it's going to go in a league of closely matched teams. on sunday for the ravens it was more like minute to minute. >> ravens looking for their first road win. not much to cheer about in the first half. rice with a fumble that led to a miami score. the ravens trialed by 7 at the break. different story in the second half. rice found the end zone twice. this put the ravens on top by 10. 23-13. the dolphins rally in the 4th and come up big play on defense. flacco intercepted, returned for a touchdown. flacco had five passes

intercepted last week. this one evens the score with 8 minute to go. the ravens defense stepped up after that. no one more terrell suggs who sacked ryan tannehill three times in the 4th quarter. the ravens got in position to take the lead. justin tucker puts him on top, his fifth field goal of the game. ravens up 26-23. miami got in position to tie it. the field goal attempt too far left. the ravens survive. it was a close one 26-23. the first road victory of the year. suggs was the star on defense. a big bounce back after the loss at buffalo. >> if the team struggles in one area they're going to address it in the week coming forward. so like i said, i just wanted to win. this is a very tough miami dolphins team. i wouldn't be surprised if we see them again. >> the next quarterback that

the ravens are after, aaron roger of the packers. they come to baltimore this sunday. the ravens record 3-2, that ties them with cincinnati and leave land for tops in the afc north. >> thanks. our complete continues now. here is mike schuh. >> reporter: our wjz fan cam question, at the end did you have any doubts that the ravens could pull out a victory? >> no, i had confidence in them. i really did. they're a good team. >> yes, i had doubts they were going to pull it out. it looked like the other team was going to come through and get a touchdown or score big. >> i knew they were going to pull it out. that's our team. >> no doubt about it at all? >> no. >> no, they look ed ed good yesterday. they're going to mold together and everything is going to be fine. >> no, i didn't because we have an awesome defense. >> it was going to be tough. i didn't know if we were

>> the driver of the truck goes over a car and careens out of control. alcohol was detected on the breath of the driver. he's been detained on spusz pigs of manslaughter. a fourth motorcyclist is in custody. he's been held on $75,000 bail. prosecutors say 37-year-old reginald chance played a key role in the beating, which came after the driver ran over a biker. the driver of the suv is not facing any charges. the motorcyclist may never walk again. a big security breach. the tsa is investigating how a 9-year-old was able to get on a plane without a ticket. he passed through the counter at minneapolis and flew to las vegas. it was believed he was pretending to part of someone else's family with a gate.

welcome back. we are watching a pretty significant line of thunderstorms as it pushes through the region. we've got some heavy rainfall

located in the metro area. it's now starting to push out there in dc. portions of this line of storms moving as fast as 85 miles per hour. it's also seated with a cold front. we have watches and warns in effect. we have a severe thunderstorm warning in effect for pg and charles county. then we have a watch in effect until 5:00 p.m. that means there isn't one occurring right now, just gripe enough to occur. 60s out in western maryland. some 70s, nearly 80 degrees on the eastern shore. we have dew points that are really helping to fuel this line of storms as it moves through. you can check out where these dew points have dropped down since that line has pushed through in western maryland. dew point around 70 degrees here in baltimore. winds helping to fuel these storms. they have calmed down quite a bit in western maryland.

that's forshadowing what we're seeing here in the metro area. the big picture on satellite and radar showing this line of storms. as it pushes through it's going to be cooling us off quite a bit. taking you through time here into your wednesday, high pressure is going to build in. we will be watching the formation of a potential coastal low located to the south. not too much in the rain of rainfall at this time. bay temperature at 70 degrees. a tornado and small craft advisory watch on the bay. highs around 78 today. some afternoon rain continuing h some heavy rain at times. a few thunderstorms. 50 degrees tonight with maybe a lingering evening shower. as we head into tomorrow things will be partly sunny, less humid, 70 degrees. seasonable, more tranquil than today. that's for sure. >> good to know. >> it would have to be . still to come on wjz eyewitness news at noon, we continue to watch our live doppler weather radar as severe weather moves through.
