[laughter] >> ellen: question. how many of you were on facebook? i read an article today, and some researchers did a study where they looked at 15 million facebook pages which amounts to 75,adults, or two 14-year-old girls. i'm not sure what -- 75,000 adults or two 14-year-old girldz. we're six weeks into season 11 and i still haven't gone through my audience's facebook pages. i thought today i would show them on national television. you post them. why not?

i like her very much and i think she's a very smart young lady and i always enjoy her being here. no matter what she does, people talk about it. now there is a documentary out called "miley the movement" and it aired on mtv, it was very popular, then they recut a longer version of tit was an hour, now it's 90 minutes. here is >> a longer version of it. >> right now i'm at a point in my career where i can be exactly who i want to be. i want to remember this is what separates me from everybody else. i'm starting as a new artist now. there is an army. we're all part of the movement.

kind of chill with whatever someone wants to do, expressing themselves, i tried to wrap my head around i guess what a normal person thinks about the performance and i can't really understand where the shock comes from, i know that sounds crazy but i can't really understand it because i don't see anything more than what any other real artist is, i mean, gaga was in the song but -- >> ellen: no one cares. >> no. >> ellen: that's the thing, elton john was on recently and he basically said -- he spoke up for you and he said the artists are competing against each other for attention and it is the goal to flatten the opposition and she flattened the opposition. nobody talks about anybody else except miley. you have two records in the top 10. you have the number one single. he's saying you did what you are supposed to do. it's not the oscars. it's not the emmys. it's a music show. >> for me, mtv, when i used to watch mtv all the time, it was really about music and now it's a bunch of tv shows and all that, but this is a time in the

year where it really brings it back focused on music and that's what it's supposed to be. it's supposed to be celebrating music videos and that was basically my music video, i don't know how people were shocked if you have seen my video or blued lines video it was supposed to pay honor to that because it brought music videos back into a different place where people care about videos again. it was important year for that. >> ellen: i think most people felt blurred lines because it was all naked women. >> i don't know why they were shocked. i had clothes on. i was trying to get away with it. mtv threatened to dead-air me so i couldn't come out in the full birthday suit. latex. >> ellen: were you going to come out naked? >> it's already happening. i just start talking about it and it starts happening, sorry, ellen, sorry, it's not really a choice, it's just kind of -- >> ellen: it just happens. >> it just happens. >> ellen: you don't like wearing clothes. >> i was admitting it's always so cold on every set i go to and

i still have to wear clothes because it gives me anxiety. >> ellen: to wear clothes? >> it gives me like a constricted -- it gives me a whole thing. i'm really panicking about winter coming up. onesies don't work in wintertime. >> ellen: unless it's like a down comforter onesy. a onesy parka. and the last time you were here -- let's talk about the tongue thing. when you say -- >> let's talk about the tongue thing. >> ellen: let's talk about the tongue thing. what started that? because now you are known as your tongue is out of your mouth. >> my mom hates it. my mom really gets mad about it. more mad than any of these other parents that are also pissed but my mom is one of the moms that is mad about it but i don't like taking pictures. i feel really uncomfortable taking pictures so it's like a nervous habit because it seems so awkward to take a picture and be like i don't know how to do it so it feels more comfortable to go -- i don't know, it just feels more comfortable.

it's a hard thing -- it's embarrassing. >> ellen: now do you think you don't want to do that any more because people expect you to do it so you don't want to do it? >> it's weird when old dads come up and say take a picture, let's do the tongue thing, i'm like what tongue thing are you talking about? i don't do the tongue thing with dads. >> ellen: so maybe you will stop doing the tongue thing? are you more comfortable -- >> i'm more comfortable with it. it kind of depends. it's kind of become like -- i don't know, a thing, but it's more than i can get away with doing it because people expect it so it's really just a nervous habit because smiling makes me feel uncomfortable on the carpet. i don't know what to do. >> ellen: it's a weird thing. people think because you have been in the public eye for so long since you were a young girl that you would be used to it but it's never -- >> i think i used to, also when i was younger i think i cared more about being on the red carpet so i was trying to be like oh, i was young, following what everyonelts is doing, stand with your head up like this --

what everyone else is doing, stand with your head up like this, i used to watch after i performed, everyone was in their gowns, i came out in tennis shoes that people wear to soccer practice, those kind of shoes, it's not that i don't care but i want to come to watch the show, i don't want to be at an event to get as dolled up as i possibly can. >> ellen: i think people are confused that people don't care what you think with just -- i think you do care what people think. >> i care what my fans think a lot. >> ellen: and you care about your music, you know you want to be true to yourself and you are being true to yourself. >> things like hearing what elton has to say and after the v.m.a.'s i was going to talk to kanye or any of that, it outweighs what people write negative comments because i want to hear what anyone has to say, i'm all down for getting better and continuing to grow but it's not really constructive criticism what people do, it's

kind of they take out all their hatred on someone they don't really know and i'm sure they would not mind me if they had a conversation with me and realize i have a plan for my life and what i'm doing. >> ellen: really, i think what people -- if they don't really know who you are, and i do know -- i don't know you well but you are an amazingly talented woman. i mean, you have an amazing voice. i love -- i've said that to you before. you're a great artist and you write -- and you write great songs and we have to take a break. we're going to talk about all kinds of things, but i just think you're so talented. >> thank you so much. >> ellen: we'll be back. because i'm living and i think people spend more time thinking about it than i do because i believe when a chapter is done you have to close it and start that new one and that's kind of where i am now, is i have to be so much -- i have so much to be thankful for my energy hasn't been focused on that and i have been kind of impressed with people and how much they've shown more respect -- i don't really look up anything. maybe they haven't been showing respect. but from what i have like seen, i think people have focused on my music now when i've needed them to and that's the thing i'm worried about, i didn't want it to be a sacrifice that i'm working for, for attention. >> ellen: to overshadow that. >> yeah. >> ellen: is anything on this album -- >> the whole album is a story of that and i think it says that starting with "adore you" and ending with "someone else" like you can find this arc of growth and i didn't really know as much until i really listened to it now until it's done and i have like my physical copy and i put

it in my car and i'm like this really is telling a story and i think i knew more intuitively where my life was going than i thought i did at the time. >> ellen: i didn't want to read into it and assume that but it sounds like that. are you friendly? do you speak? >> for me, i haven't really gotten to see anyone now because i have been, like, so crazy busy, i'm letting that chapter close and looking forward to the new one. i want to be clear and determined with everything i'm doing, i keep saying i'm happiest i have ever been and that's not a dig because i am genuinely happy with myself, sometimes it takes you separating yourself from someone else to really be happy with who you are. i have never been able just to be alone, and i'm obsessed with being alone and like hearing my thoughts. >> ellen: you are now? >> i'm really obsessed with, like, trying to -- everyone -- you should give me a -- i have asked everyone that is around me, give me your list of your favorite movies, your favorite

books, your favorite artists so i can know more about the few people i have in my life and really know about them and really see what they're inspired by and also continue to just learn more. listen to every different -- >> ellen: i'm going to give you a list. and i would love to get a list from you as well. >> i have been doing it a lot, even with people i meet and different designers, like what made you get inspired, i'm trying to get this alone time, the five minutes i have every day to learn as much as i can. >> ellen: one thing you have done that i wanted to do when i was younger and as i got older i changed my mind, i always wanted to skydive and you did that. >> have you done that yet? >> ellen: no, i'm not going to do it, i've changed my mind, but i always wanted to skydive. was it as scary and fun as you thought? >> it was less scary than i thought because i grew up having a lot of anxiety, and so with what i do i can't really have that anxiety so that was one thing that i felt like if i can

perform at the v.m.a.'s and if i can jump out of a plane, there is no reason for me to have anxiety any more. i think once you do it, i don't think you will ever doubt yourself again. >> ellen: now you have nothing you're scared of? >> i came as close to death as you can possibly can. they make you do this -- this is the scary part. they make you make a movie like right before, they make you film saying "i realize parachutes sometimes don't work" and that's the worst thing i have said in my life. >> ellen: now you realize nothing can scare you any more? >> no, nothing -- [screams] [cheering] [applause] >> compared to ellen. oh, my god, oh, my god. i was scared it was going to be strippers. i didn't know it was ellen. >> ellen: just a robin thicke lookalike. nothing can scare you any more?

chilly day.aw, flood watches are in effect throughout the region as thousands are pouring into the city for the weekend's running festival. >> it is creating some big problems. we have live team coverage. we are keeping an eye on those rising waters. impressive been an amount. two to six inches of rain in some parts of the area. the rain has tapered off but it will take a long time for that water to run off and there are still flood warnings in effect.
