here is what is coming up on "early today." overnight more dry ice bombs found at lax. one exploided and another found underneath an airplane. the government may be getting close to a deal and avoiding default. tom hanks and sandra bullock team up "early today" starts right now. this is "early today" for tuesday, october 15th. good morning. i'm mara schiavocampo.

we begin with three dry ice balms at los angeles international airport, one of which exploded. one of them was underneath an airplane at a gate. two others were found nearby. there are no immediate reports of any injuries or damage. at least four flights were delayed. law enforcement sources tell nbc news they do not believe through is a terrorism leak. late sunday another dry ice bomb exploded in an employee bathroom. in new york a wanted al qaeda suspect is expected in an american court today. al libi arrived on u.s. soil saturday where he was arrested. he had been held and interrogated. he is one of nearly three dozen men under indictment for the 1998 bombings of the u.s.

embassies of africa. three remain at large and one died awaiting trial. today the 49 year old will go before a federal judge ahead of his trial. the nsa is reportedly pouring through millions of contact lists from around the world. the washington reports it intercepts hundreds of thousands of e-mail address books every day from private accounts you likely use. in fact, during a single day last year here is what the post says the nsa collected 445,000 e-mail address books from yahoo. 105,000 from hot mail and 23,000 from unspecified users. the paper reports the nsa analyzes the contacts to find possible links to terrorism and other criminal activities.

the nsa says it is not interested in the personal information of ordinary americans. edward snowden provided the secret documents to the post. in the words of one top u.s. senator today could be a bright day meaning a deal could be on the horizon. harry reid and mitch mcconnell met on monday. they say they are closing in on an agreement to prevent the nation's first ever default come thursday's debt ceiling deadline. >> i'm very optimistic that we will reach an agreement that is reasonable in nature this week to reopen the government, pay the nation's bills and begin long term negotiation to put our country on sound fiscal footing. >> i share his optimism that we are going to get a resultt that will be acceptable to both sides. >> despite what is billed at

tremendous progress they are not there yet and the nation is not happy about it. a new abc news washington post poll finds 74% of americans disapprove of the way republicans are handling the crisis. 61% of americans disapprove of democrats in congress. that is up five percent from two weeks ago. tracie potts is live with the latest. are things looking good for a deal in the next 48 hours? >> reporter: it is possible and maybe even probable now that a small working group seems to come up with a deal that will get people back to work and allow the government to borrow money to pay its bills through january. in exchange for that a delay in the medical tax. i think the senate will get a look at it in caucus meetings

today. it also needs to pass republicans in the house. they are waiting to see what the senate has come up with. some lawmakers say the polls of how american public feels about this have had a huge impact. >> the only way we get the republicans to the table is if the national polls showed they were way out of step with the american people and thank goodness the american people are weighing in. >> reporter: in fact, that is what many of the polls including our own have shown. now it looks like there is a bit of progress with two days to go before the deadline. >> right down to the wire. a massive earthquake has struck the philippines killing at least 20 people. the 7.2 quake rattled the central region producing wide spread panic. emergency crews rushed to pull

they caught them. the 67 year old received a stint over the summer. sources familiar with the medical situation tell the national journal his coronary article was 95% blocked. storm chasers captured a severe storm that produced a tornado about 15 miles from dodge city, kansas. for more on the national forecast i'm joined by bill karins. >> have you heard the term land spout? >> never. >> it is still a tornado but not a typical one you get with with supercell. they don't have a lot of rotation. it is usually much weaker like the cousin of a tornado. >> a relative. >> all about the central plains. this is a big october storm for you. mostly a rain storm.

this is the type of rain and winds that knock the beautiful leaves on the trees there. chicago, kansas city and also towards st. louis you will deal with the rain during your morning commute. a wider view shows a tropical connection to this. a tropical storm made landfall near baja, california. some moisture will be pulled ahead of the cold front. to the south heavier rains during the day today. not raining a lot right now in texas but as we go through the afternoon and evening hours we pick up one to two inches of rain. the east coast you look fine today along with the friends on the west coast. that is your national forecast. now here is a look at the weather outside your window. miami, florida looks great. travel trouble and airport delays chicago and st. louis

here. >> she just participated in a cancer awareness event when she passed warning signs and walked on to a bridge. the rail company has not decided whether to charge her with trespassing. british police say they foiled a major terror plot. officials say the four men planned to attack public areas of london armed with guns. a 6-year-old boy drowns while on vacation on a carnival cruise ship. talk about a close call. a speeding driver narrowly misses hitting a state trooper. the driver was later pulled over. the annual pumpkin ragatta

mike green of the washington capitals tried a hip-check but his target moved aaside and green flipped over the boards. a tug of war using a massive 200 yard long rope that weighs 43 tons, the teams are supposed to move it five yards but it didn't seem to move much at all but one team was declared the winner. at the red bull rampage bikers raced down a 1,500 foot cliff. did an amazing 78 foot back flip that won the best trick award. in australia some buffalo gals ride buffalo like horses and train them to do jumps through fiery hoops and it is more impressive when you look at it through the rider cam.

bringing rain through chicago, indianapolis, st. louis this morning. tomorrow the storm in the front lingers. tennessee back through texas cloudy and damp. we hold on to one more dry day from new york to florida. temperatures are much cooler behind the storm. highs in the 40s and 50s the next two days northern plains through the northern rockies. not a lot of snow to talk about right now. turning now to entertain. apparently anthony hopkins is a big fan of "breaking bad." the actor wrote a letter saying your performance was the best acting i had seen ever. you and the cast are the best actors i have seen. tom hanks and sandra bullock were on the british talk show where they relived a bit of hanks' past.
