>> from the city to the counties to your neighborhood. now it's complete coverage. it's wjz, maryland's news station. good morning and welcome to eyewitness news this saturday. i'm gigi barnett. >> i'm marty bass in for tim williams. it's not going to be a bad day. >> good. a little cloudy out there right now. there is that big full moon starting to set in the western sky. let's go ahead and take a look at the forecast. you'll notice that moon is dim by high clouds. those clouds are going to thicken through the day. it's not impossible that late today, maybe this evening we see a passing shower. 66 going to be the high. we're talking about 50 right now. we'll have the first warning complete weekend forecast in just a couple of minutes. thank you marty. here's a look at the stories people are talking about this morning. a u.s. air marshal is out on bail after admitting to a shocking crime on board an airplane. as rochelle ritchie explains,

the man was on the clock when he was caught secretly snapping pictures under passenger's skirts. >> 28-year-old adam bartsch from anne arundel county runs from news cameras after he is released from jail on $10,000 bail after a man caught him taking inappropriate pictures of women on a plane. >> and he pressed a button and took three or four pictures. >> police say it happened on board southwest flight 3132 departing from nashville. as the women walked pat bartsch's seat a witness says he saw him use a cell phone camera to take pictures underneath their skirts. >> the average person is looking forward because they're looking for a seat. they're not focusing on the guy's hand sticking out a little bit and taking the picture. >> the witness grabbed the phone and turned it over to a flight attendant. we tried to talk to bartsch at

his home. neighbors say his actions show a lack of respect for his pox and the lives he was hired to protect. >> that's a lot of responsibility and yeah, i was totally shocked by that. you wouldn't expect that from a person in that position. >> officials would not go on camera but released this statement saying "tsa does not tolerate criminal behavior. the agency has removed this individual from his current duties. very little is known about bartsch. neighbors tell us he has a wife and child and appeared to be a model citizen with credibility. >> that's inappropriate. if i want to wear a dress, i shouldn't be worried if someone's going to be looking up there. >> bartsch admits he took about a dozen photos. i'm rochelle ritchie wjz eyewitness news. >> and bartsch heads back to court next month. meanwhile in the city, police are searching for the gunman who shot a man just a few blocks from johns hopkins hospital. it happened yesterday evening in the 2,000 block of orleans

street. an unknown suspect fired several shots hitting a 22-year- old man. the victim died a short time later. no arrests have been made and police don't know what sparked the shooting. in new york a long island man is accused and arrested in an al-qaeda terror plot. the fbi says 23-year-old marcos zaia tried to travel to yemen to join the terrorist group and conspired from the u.s. federal agents raided his home friday morning but say he has been under surveillance since 2011. the port of baltimore is back open for business. union leaders say they reached an agreement to end a 3 day strike. as linh bui explains, that deal won't last for long. >> good morning. several issues were on the table ranging from safety to wages but friday evening a resolution was reached. the port of baltimore comes back to life after three days on the picket line for these long shoremen. >> as we speak they're back on

the ships. we had ships in the harbor waiting to go to work anxious to be unloaded. >> the international long shoremen association's local 333 and the steamship trade association agreed to a 90 day cooldown. negotiations will continue but long shoremen can get back to work immediately. >> it's a win-win for everybody. >> after 90 days there could be a strike but the union is confident they'll reach a fair contract. >> i'd rather work. believe me. it's much easier to work than to go on strike. >> the port of baltimore is the 9th largest in the nation and has a $6 billion impact on maryland. it would have had a massive impact on the street. >> keep this economy going, definitely great for the state of maryland, residents here. >> the port reopens at a critical time with a busy holiday season right around the corner. >> the maryland port administration released a statement saying they are

pleased with this resolution, that it's good for everyone who works at the port and they're glad to put this situation behind us. reporting linh bui wjz eyewitness news. >> that is good because the port of baltimore handles about 30 million-tons of cargo every year. an under under armour store in anne arundel county will reopen this morning following a gas leak. they were forced to evacuate the store in curtis bay yesterday. firefighters believe crews were working on the heating system when they may have hit a line there. holding a grudge month after the new gas tax, drivers say they still don't like it. as pat warren explains, a new poll finds that that sentiment could bring big changes in next year's election. >> in one man's opinion. >> it sucks. >> an opinion shared by a majority of marylanders who on july 1st sought a gas tax

increase to $0.27 a gallon. >> it's ridiculous. >> near 76% of voters disapprove. >> i'm not happy with it at all. >> a little more than 21% do approve the. >> a couple extra penny in exchange for much better roads and bridges is really a good way to spend our money. >> 2.6% had no answer. the degrees of disapproval were also polled. >> i think it's the worst thing they could do, especially with the situation that people are in today. >> like 59% strongly disapprove of the tax. 60.8% somewhat disapprove. >> it angers me but i understand that we do need money for other projects but i'm almost i don't care anymore. >> and because taxes are always ammunition in an election year, more than half of democrats, nearly three quarters of republicans and two-thirds of independences are thumbs down on the tax and the people who raised it. >> they're deliberately putting

more burden on people than what is necessary. >> nobody's listening. they're just doing their own thing and as far as i'm concerned, we need to get rid of the whole lot of them. >> additional increases approved this year will drive the tax up to $0.42 a gallon by 2016. pat warren wjz eyewitness news. >> and aaa says overall marylanders are paying about $0.36 less than the same time last year because of less demand and plentiful supply. one-half of the world series is set after a blowout game in st. louis last night. take a look at this. world series bound. >> that does it. that sends st. louis cardinals perching their tickets to the -- punching their tickets to the world series. the cardinals crushed the dodgers winning the closeout

game 9-0. they'll wait for the winners of the tigers red sox series to see who they will face. it's one of the biggest rivalries in the nfl, the ravens versus the steelers. everybody in baltimore knows the steel town show down is tomorrow. mark viviano has more on the big matchup. good morning. the ravens are coming off that tough loss to the green bay packers last sunday, and in talking to the team this week, it is evident that they're tired of answering questions about what's wrong. they're anxious to show that they have the right answers when they play at pittsburgh on sunday. >> football is a game of adjustments and this week at practice the raven says they're adjusting their game plan on offense, trying to get ray rice in the running game in gear because the yardage has been minimal and a 3 and 3 record isn't good enough. >> you can't keep doing the same exact thing and you can't keep doing whatever you're doing the same way. we've got to change all that. >> we've got to keep going. we've got to win.

winds are calm. humidity's 92%. barometer's at 29.97. look at this. 37 degrees in cumberland. 10 warmer in elkton, 48 hagerstown, 53 d. c. 51 pax river, westminster, bel air and columbia, the mid to mid, upper 40s. rock hall, kent island and annapolis. a secondary frontal boundary is going to move through the area. we went from 75 to the upper 60s over the past couple of days. now we're going to go into the low mid-60s and get chillier at the end of the forecast period. this rain stays down to the south. the showers you see out to the west, i think will more than likely lose their umph across the mountains and we'll have a couple of passing showers as we go through the afternoon and evening. sunshine gives way to some clouds sooner than later. i think midday on it's cloudy,

congress. he is survived by his three children. elsewhere in florida, police are conducting a statewide man hunt for two convicted murders. the inmates used forged release papers to trick prison guards. as teresa garcia reports, this may be part of a larger problem. >> three days after escaping this florida prison with forged paperwork, joseph jenkins and charms walker walked back into an orange county jail to register as felons. ironically they were following florida law. corrections workers took these mug shots of the men and fingerprinted them, but once again, jenkins and walker walked out free men. >> they showed up and signed documents at that time so we know that they were here in this area. >> jenkins and walker who were serving life sentences for murder were mistakenly released after prison officials were fooled by these fake documents bearing forged signatures. the orange county sheriff's office is working with the corrections department to investigate who created these

forgeries. >> we're looking at the system's breakdown and i'm not standing here to point the finger at anyone at this time. >> cbs news has learned corrections officials had received phony papers once before for general kin's release. that time they spotted the counterfeit. pugh is terrified knowing her husband's killer is back on the streets. >> i'm in fear for my life and my children's lives. >> the orange county sheriff's says they've received tips about their whereabouts and is hoping the public will help put these fugitives back in prison. >> and the florida corrections department is also changing its early release policy. prison guards must now verify with judges directly before releasing inmates early. some legal trouble is brewing for bill russell. police arrested the 79-year-old this week in seattle after tsa

agents found a loaded gun in his bag. police confiscated the firearm and released russell. he's an 11 time nba champ with the boston celtics. prosecutors are urging a judge to show no mercy to a lab technician who jeopardized thousands of criminal cases. annie due can is accused of faking lab results throughout her nine years. her actions have compromised more than 40,000 drug related cases and will cost the state millions of dollars. defense attorneys say she never meant to hurt anyone but the judge remains skeptical. >> you can choose what you tell the truth about. i assume you're deluding yourself. >> ducan is considering a guilty plea but her attorney is seeking a one-year jail sentence. prosecutors are asking for seven years. you drive a toyota, the company is recalling thousands of vehicles for unusual

problems. apparently the car maker says that spider webs can get stuck in a certain ac system causing a short circuit that can then trigger the air bag to deploy. spider stow aways are so common according to toyota that the company is recalling 800,000 vehicles including 2012 and 2013 camrys, venosas and avalons. owners won't have to pay a dime for the repairs at their dealership. >> that's a hungry spider. there's obviously other bugs they can eat. >> yeah. or maybe they're saying i just need shelter. i don't know. but it's not just -- it can't be one. you know, it's got to be like two or three. >> i'm with you. >> and why are they attracted to toyotas as opposed to a honda. i don't know. it's just -- a spider really, toyota? i don't know. and i drive a toyota. >> something tells me they're attracted to like all cars. this story just came out because toyota figured out there could be a problem with

welcome back. first warning doppler radar shows no rain in the area. rain out to the west could be here this afternoon and this evening. not a ton of rain coming our way. let's go ahead and take a look at the five-day forecast. clear it out tomorrow, beautiful. sunny through the five-day. i want you to know from midweek on it's going to start getting chilly with daytime highs in the 50s at night. many of us this the 30s. there are 41 million retirees in america and doctors say those who stay active stay healthier longer than those who are not. mike schuh shows us one retiree in hunt valley who is hard to keep up with. >> be lucky enough to reach a certain age and you may need wheels to help you get around. >> it's so nice to see you. >> now 82. a year ago she moved into the

broad immediate retirement community. go out front and you'll see her name on one of her most prized possessions. >> i encourage people to get up off the sitting position and move. >> ruth, let's go. >> since retirement she's ridden across maryland ten times and every day she's out on the road circling her house. it's contactually a mile. >> how many laps will you do? >> 5. she by far rides more miles than any of the other residents. >> are there a lot of cyclists here? >> there are a few. >> you? >> ruth wasn't always a cyclist. she ask her husband lee, that's lee checking out the guy moving in on his girl didn't even begin cycling until just before they retired. >> so you were 65 when you bought that bike. >> yeah. >> how many miles do you think you've put on the bike. >> a thousand. >> walking, talking and keeping

i'm gigi barnett. >> i'm marty bass in for tim williams. 6:31. 45 degrees and kind of a layer of high clouds over the area right now. if we can go ahead and look outside you'll note there's no fog. temperatures and dew point are very close right now. there is no wind. it's a recipe for fog. we're not seeing any of that on our harbor cam shot. forecast calls for cloudy skies, maybe a late afternoon shower. a high of 66. we'll have our first warning complete forecast in just a couple minutes. >> thank you marty. here's a look at the stories we're keeping an eye on this morning. a former patient of a local ob/gyn speaks out about her doctor's suspension after federal agents find what appears to be patient pictures on his phone. dr. john yacoub is under investigation for taking and distributing dangerous drugs. meghan mccorkell has more. >> good morning. dr. john yacoub practiced medicine here at maryland for

30 years with thousands of patients but now his license is suspended. >> suspicions arose around dr. john yacoub after officials say a staff member noticed large amounts of controlled dangerous substances in his office. drugs he was not authorized to prescribe. when hospital administrators went to look for the drugs, yacoub said they'd somehow disappeared. according to a board of physicians, suspension order obtained by wjz, that led to his termination from st. agnes hospital this november of 2012. they began an investigation. twice during this past summer yacoub tested positive for cocaine use. just last month the d. e. a. raided his towson apartment. they found prescription drugs and traces of cocaine. on the doctor's phone they discovered pictures of women's genitalia, many with nearby medical instruments and a gloved hand. >> i would have never expected it from him. >> tina add coc has been a

patient of him for 22 years. he delivered both of her children. she's shocked about the pictures found on his phone. >> i don't know how. whenever i was like -- you would go in to get examined there was always a nurse there so i don't know how he could have done it. >> the case bears striking similarities to that of dr. nikita levy. he took his own life after police found extensive evidence he was videotaping his patients. the investigation sparked outrage from women's groups. >> it is the ultimate violation. it really angers me. i mean, for something like this to happen. >> a suspension hearing for dr. yacoub is set for next week. >> dr. yacoub leased office space with gbmc but was not an employee of the hospital. gbmc has permanently suspended his privileges at the facility. meghan mccorkell wjz eyewitness news. >> and according to the suspension, dr. yacoub is also accused of having a sexual

relationship with a patient. in anne arundel county, police are searching for three masked men who allegedly beat and robbed an elderly couple inside their home. it happened around the 500th 500th block of mcfear son road in glen burnie. an 87-year-old man and his 73- year-old girlfriend were in the home at the time when three men pushed their way inside. the suspects ransacked the home and stole money and valuables. police say they also assaulted the couple before running away. no arrests have been made. a u.s. air marshal is out on bail after admitting to a shocking crime on board an airplane. as rochelle ritchie explains, the man was on the clock when he was caught secretly snapping pictures under passenger's skirts. >> 28-year-old adam bartsch, a federal air marshal from anne arundel county runs from news cameras after he is released from jail on a $10,000 bail after a man says he caught him taking inappropriate pictures of women on a plane. >> and he pressed a button and

individual from his current duties." very little is known about bartsch. neighbors tell us he has a wife and a child and appeared to be a model citizen with credibility. >> that's inappropriate. if i want to wear a dress and i shouldn't be worried if someone's going to be looking up there. >> investigators say bartsch admits he took about a dozen photos. >> rochelle ritchie wjz eyewitness news. >> and bartsch is due back in court next month. a d. c. police officer pleads guilty after he's caught on tape provoking and then attacking a washington store clerk. it happened at this downtown locker room store back in 2011. police say the officer who is wearing blue can be seen arguing with the clerk and then even after the man walks away. eventually the officer grabs the clerk by the throat, wrestles him to the ground and arrests him for assault. the department filed charges against the officer after reviewing the surveillance tape. he could face up to six months

behind bars. police in los angeles airport arrest a second man in connection with a series of dry ice explosions at lax airport this week. the supervisor of decarlos bennett is also behind bars this morning. investigators say the men admitted to setting up a dry ice bomb that exploded on sunday. bennett says it was just a prank. the men are charged with possessing a destructive device near an aircraft. bennett remains behind bars on a $1 million bond. the port of baltimore is back open for business this morning. late last night union officials say they reached a deal to end a three-day strike but as linh bui explains, that agreement is only temporary. good morning. several issues were on the table ranging from safe toy wages but friday evening a resolution was reached. >> the port of baltimore comes back to life after three days on the picket line for these long shoremen. >> as we speak, they are back on the ships.

45 and clear right now in central maryland. the forecast is straight ahead. first starting monday morning same sex couples in new jersey could be getting married. the governor says he will comply with the state supreme court ruling that makes same- sex marriage legal in his state. it makes new jersey the 14th 14th state to allow same sex couples to marry. investigators in kenya have released in new security video from a deadly mall attack that left 67 people dead. it reveals four gunmen carrying weapons through the mall. one attacker is shown walking up to a customer and simply shooting him and walking off. the new video contradicts kenyan government's claim that a much larger group of
