peyton manning and his team fall to his former team in indianapolis. captioning funded by cbs this is the "cbs morning news" for monday, october 21st, 2013. good morning. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. well, president obama knows the federal health kcare website needs a doctor. later today the president is expected to talk about the botched rollout of his botched health care legislation. the president is said to be very upset with the widespread problems on the insurance exchange website. last night the administration announced some major changes. susan mcginnis is in washington. susan, good morning. >> good morning, anne-marie. look for the president to talk about the changes, making health ca care.gov easier to use. you can expect him to focus on the benefits of the health care act while he acknowledges those problems but there's one key piece of information you may not want to wait for. president obama is expected to call problems with the government's affordable care act website inexcusable.

>> the huge outpouring of interest shows how important it is that we get this right. there's no one more frustrated than the president at the difficulty in the website. >> republicans call it a fiasco. >> send air force one out to silicon valley, load it up with some smart people, bring them back to washington, and fix this problem. it's ridiculous. >> and administration officials tell cbs news they're bringing in more help from outside to fix it. they're writing new code to fix some of the glitches and they're expanding capacity to meade demand. more than 19 million people have visited the website since the launch october 1st. >> the number one worry before we started was are people going to be interested, will people sign up, and the answer to that is overwhelmingly yes. >> but opponents say who signs up is just as important as how many sign up. >> the fact is the sick people are signing up, the healthy aren't. and they're not going to because the deductibles are so high and

the cost is going to be high. >> the white house says half a million people have filled out applications but won't say how many of them were able to enroll. now, the white house is expected to come out with those enrollment numbers not until mid-november. also there is a hearing this thursday. gop has called for a sub house committee hearing into the problems and that's happening this thursday. also health and human services secretary kathleen sebelius is being called on to resign by some gop lawmakers. anne-marie? >> susan mcginnis in washington. thank you, susan. well, this morning new jersey is the 14th state to recognize same-sex marriages. the state supreme court ruled friday new jersey towns should be accepting marian marriage license applications for same-sex couples. marlie hall is at city hall. good morning. >> reporter: good morning,

anne-marie. here in new jersey same-sex marriage became legal, and seven gay and lesbian couples came out in newark at midnight to be among the first to tie the knot under the law. joseph and orville waited 15 years to exchange their vows. newly elected senator cory booker married the couples in what was a joyful celebration. the state supreme court ruled last month they can allow gay and lesbian couples starting today, making it the 14th state in the country to allow the nuptials. new jersey chris christie tried happening while he appeals a court's decision the allow same-sex marriages. the state supreme court rejected the request and will hear christie's case in japan but in the meantime, newlyweds here at city hall celebrated. >> elation, joy. >> and extraordinary -- i would

say extraordinary joy from my perspective because it's not about me or joseph from my perspective but about what we represent to young people. >> reporter: now, before joseph and orville exchanged their vows, mayor booker asked if there was anyone who objected to their union. one protester shouted that it was lawful in the eyes of god and jesus. well, that protester was escorted out by authorities. anne-marie. >> i'm sure it's going to be very busy there all day long, marlie. marlie hall at newark city hall. thank you very much. well, police have lots of questions for those two convicted killers who used forged documents to escape from a florida prison. joseph jenkins and charles walker were captured saturday night at a beach in south florida. police believe they may have paid thousands for the documents that allowed them to walk out of prison. police want to know who helped them to get the papers and who they were waiting for at the hotel.

more arrests are expected. and this morning hurricane raymond is gaining strength as it moves toward mexico's pacific coast. it's located 165 miles southwest of acapulco. it's sustained winds of 110 miles an hour with higher gusts. the storm may remain offshore, but if it does make land, it wouldn't happen until today or tomorrow. raymond is headed to the same area that was hit hard by tropical storm manuel next month. and weather conditions are not helping firefighters battle one of the most destructive wildfires ever seen in australia's most heavily populated state. more than a dozen fires are burning out of control in the blue mountains west of sydney. we have more from katumba. >> reporter: an unparalleled emergency. that's how authorities are describing the bushfire crisis here in south wales. now conditions are expected to

worsen in the next couple of days, sparking fears that two major fires could join forces to create a mega fire. >> we're not miracle makers but we'll do the very best we can to limit the department toll very it's extra tragically blackening it. >> they're acutely aware that the do nothing approach is disastrous. the do something approach is a good. >> reporter: an 11-year-old has been charged with lighting two fires north of new castle and there are now reports of looting. >> it's not going to be tolerated. it is probably the worst thing you could do. >> reporter: fanning the flames of this emergency are strong winds. gusts of up to 100 kilometers an hour are forecast for wednesday. >> one minute it can befar away and the next minute it's on top

same station last year. >> and federal investigators are at the site of a deadly transit accident in san francisco this morning. a train struck and killed two workers on saturday, and as carter evans reports, it happened during a contentious labor dispute. >> reporter: radio captured this. >> we just struck some individuals. central, be advised, it may be b.a.r.t. employees. >> reporter: a maintenance employee and a contractor may have been reporting a dip in the track when a train being brought in for routine cleaning hit them. >> i have two bodies, repeat, two bodies, one is on the side of the track way, the other is further down about 50 yards. >> both are deceased. >> reporter: both workers had extensive experience says b.a.r.t. assistant general manager paul overseer.

of house and senate negotiators is working to avert another government shutdown. standard & poor's estimates the 16-day part shall shutdown cost the country an estimate 24d billion. leaders say another shutdown is not an option. >> the american people are working hard to come back from the world's worst recession. this can never happen again. >> a number of us were saying back in july this strategy could not and would not work, and of course, it didn't. there will not be another government shutdown, you can count on that. >> the government is funded through january 15th. the nation's largest telephone company at&t is leasing or selling the rights to 9,700 wireless towers. the deal with the company called crown castle is worth nearly $5 billion. at&t says it won't have any impact on its customers.

now, in sports peyton manning returns to the city where he started for 14 seasons. the denver broncos' quarterback jogged onto the field in indianapolis for the first time as a visiting player. he gave a wave to the fans after a standing ovation butafter that it was all business for the colts. manning's replacement andrew luck throws three touchdown passes and runs for another as indianapolis hands denver a 39-33 loss. after the game manning said he appreciated the homecoming but is glad it's over. >> if there is a next time, maybe it will be a little bit easier just because it was somewhat of an emotional week. it can be a little bit draining, i will say that. >> for his part manning threw for three touchdowns of his own. it's denver's first loss of the season. and that leaves the kansas city chiefs as the nfl's last unbeaten team.
