when i was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis, my rheumatologist prescribed enbrel for my pain and stiffness, and to help stop joint damage. [ male announcer ] enbrel may lower your ability to fight infections. serious, sometimes fatal events including infections, tuberculosis, lymphoma, other cancers, nervous system and blood disorders, and allergic reactions have occurred. before starting enbrel, your doctor should test you for tuberculosis and discuss whether you've been to a region where certain fungal infections are common. you should not start enbrel if you have an infection like the flu. tell your doctor if you're prone to infections, have cuts or sores, have had hepatitis b, have been treated for heart failure, or if you have symptoms such as persistent fever, bruising, bleeding, or paleness. since enbrel helped relieve my joint pain, it's the little things that mean the most. ask your rheumatologist if enbrel is right for you. transplantation is done right now, it usually involves relocation of hair follicles from one part of the body to the other. usually from the back of the scalp to the front. this can be a problem to women in particular, very often, they don't have enough donor hair cells. how is this now different from the way we used to do it? well, what the researchers figured out, is a way instead of transplanting the hair follicles, they took cells from the base of the hair, that make the hair follicles. they took them outside the body, put them in a petri dish and multiplied them using a clever new technique. and they ended up with a lot more of these cells. they then transplanted them back to human skin that have been grafted on to the back of mice, and four to six weeks later there was hair growth. now, how soon is this going to be coming to a place near you? i spoke to the scientist today who was part of the study, and she told me that in about three to five years they should be able to start clinical trials.

one of the issues here, of course, we're talking about human hair that's transplanted on to the back of mice. there's technical issues that need to be figured out one in particular that's interesting to me, what happens after the end of a normal hair cycle, when that hair falls out, will a new one grow? these are the technical issues that still have to be resolved. until then, we're waiting to see what the next research brings in this very interesting and exciting new research. dr. jon lapook, cbs news, new york. straight ahead, your tuesday morning weather. and the ipad is revamped. the latest version to be unfailed today. not bad for cann, right? pfft!
