now it's complete coverage. it's wjz, maryland's news station. >> fatal love triangle, a city police officer accused of killing a city firefighter at his girl friend's. now all three are dead. good evening. i'm linh bui. an investigation is now underway into a suspected murder suicide in anne arundel county. police say the suspect is a baltimore city police officer hired in september of 2009 to the eastern district. wjz is live. rochelle ritchie reports on this murderous love triangle. >> reporter: this is certainly a disturbing story of love gone wrong. the family of the firefight shot and killed released a statement -- firefighter shot and killed released a statement moments ago saying he died a hero trying to protect his girl friend. 27-year-old baltimore city firefighter andrew scott hoffman is dead after being shot at his home in glen burnie police say by baltimore city police officer christopher

robinson. >> we were quickly able to determine through our evidence and investigation that this was a murder suicide. it was a domestic type relationship that was going on. >> reporter: anne arundel county police say 26-year-old marie hartman was killed before robinson turned the gun on himself. family friends say hartman was the ex-girl friend of the 307- year-old police officer and had recently begun date -- 37-year- old police officer and had recently begun dating hoffman. hoffman, a third generation firefighter, appeared on wjz in july after he was recognized for safely returning a wandering toddler to his home. >> i was just dumbfounded. i couldn't believe my eyes. >> just shows a lot of character in this young man who was tragically gunned down in this murder suicide early this morning. >> reporter: the fire department released this statement on his murder saying andrew has served the city of baltimore since 2006. we offer sincere condolences to the hoffman family as they grieve this terrible loss. this is the second baltimore city police officer this year

to pull the trigger during a lover's quarrel. in may baltimore is he police officer james smith shot and killed the mother of his child kendra diggs. smith and robinson both came from military backgrounds. baltimore step police says this agency has begun an immediate review to see if there is more that can be done to help those who return to civilian life from military deployment. the hoffman said investigators told them andrew was not the target in this crime. i'm rochelle ritchie, wjz eyewitness news. >> anne arundel police say there did not appear to be forced entry on the firefighter's home. three officers recovered tonight after a vehicle struck them in northwest baltimore. officers were directing traffic on north franklin town road when police say a jeep crossed the center line and hit three of them. one officer fired several times at the vehicle. police did track down the jeep. the three officers were taken to shock trauma with nonlife

threatening injuries. anyone with information should contact city police. a toddler is hospitalized after a neighbor's dog bit his face. it happened on glenn road in glen burnie. the 3-year-old boy may have put his face under the fence through a hole and then was bitten. the child was taken to john hopkins pediatrics trauma in baltimore. the dog owners turned it over to animal control which will investigate the incident. lawmakers from both sides of the aisle join together pressing the obama administration to dial back the deadline to sign up for health insurance under the new affordable care act. ko im has the latest for wjz. >> reporter: the obama administration is promising to fix the new healthcare website by the end of november, but a group of senate democrats is looking for more. >> what i'm proposing is that we extend the period in which people can enroll so we can make sure we get as many people who want health insurance able to enroll and be able to be

covered. >> reporter: new hampshire senator jean shaheen is calling the rollout a disaster urging the president to push back the march 31st deadline. many republicans are also frustrated with the launch of healthcare.gov. chairman darrell issa of the house oversee the and reform committee says he high issue is ups to the health and -- he may issue subpoenas to the health and human services department. >> the 90% that's below the water that are the other problems in obamacare. >> reporter: contractors pointed to last minute design changes and insufficient testing for the glitches. on one state hss secretary kathleen sebelius is scheduled to testify before lawmakers about the problems and when she knew about them. ko im for cbs news. >> the obama administration has not yet revaled how many people have signed up for medical insurance under the affordable care act.

cancer survivors continued the fight against the disease this weekend. it's part of wjz's continuing community commitment. gigi barnett takes us to the american cancer society's largest fundraiser. >> reporter: a sea of pink covers the lawn at the ymca stadium place in baltimore, pink tutus, bright pompoms and sashes all applauding breast cancer survivors and their supporters and the american cancer society's making stride says against breast cancer walk this weekend. >> it's a beast and i want to do everything i can to help beat it. >> reporter: elaine ezell is a two year survivor. the disease runs in her family. she's here to make sure future generations can beat cancer and to thank the women who have come before. >> one of the things i dreaded in going through chemo was nausea and i didn't have to because there were women out there before me who did research. >> reporter: the nonprofit is the largest funder of cancer research second only to the federal government and the

under control no, word on what sparked the fire or how much damage it caused. one firefighter was hurt but is expected to be okay. brooklyn police arrest a man for hurding his cousin's wife and her four -- murdering his cousin's wife and her four children. late last night the police found the family stabbed and unconscious. the kids range from 1 to 9 years old. three were pronounced dead at the scene. the mother and 5-year-old died at the hospital. the 25-year-old man had stayed in their home. the music world is mourning the loss of a rock legend. ♪ i said hey babe take a walk on the wild side ♪ >> singer lou reed passed away in southampton, new york. his agent said the velvet underground front man died this morning of an ailment related to his recent liver transplant. the song walk on the wild side was his only top 20 hit, but songs like sweet jane and pale blue eyes became reed standards. he was 71 years old.

i had family in town, so we walked all over the inner harbor today, a lot of people outside enjoying the weather. >> call it seasonably cool today, especially with the breeze and maybe made things feel a little cooler at times. the winds have died down. we're sitting with temperatures in the mid-50s in central maryland. look at our currents across the region, 55 degrees now at bwi,

oakland 41 degrees. we topped out at 60. we haven't history 60 or above in the past four days. here's what things look like locally, seeing anything from about 54 degrees or 52 westminster all the way to 59 degrees in the district of columbia, 55 degrees now bwi marshall. winds coming out of northwest helping filter in that cool canadian air and dry air mass that's been in place the past couple days. we had some chilly numbers the past couple days. we do have a bit of a warm-up headed our way, but first on the big picture satellite and radar showing this area of high pressure. so that's the area of clear dry air in charge now. it will stay in place as we head throughout the next couple days. we'll have a little cold front pass through from our north, but it won't bring us any rainfall, just a little extra cloud cover but not until later on tomorrow evening.

so we'll expect another chilly start to your monday morning, but then we'll top now the low and mid-60s before it's all done. that cold front will pass through as we head into tomorrow evening. here's how things will play out into your tuesday. high pressure will then build in once again for tuesday and into wednesday. we may get a little extra cloud cover moving in wednesday associated with the system that will push towards us, but then some pretty big changes headed our way by the end of the week. bay temperature now 60 degrees, northwest winds tomorrow afternoon at approximately 5 knots. so the winds will continue to stay on the calm side even as we head into tomorrow, calm and light side. here's what you can expect tonight, 35 degrees, clear to partly cloudy, another cool night for us, 63 degrees for tomorrow, plenty of sunshine in the forecast and yes, it will be a very seasonable day for change. here's what things look like as far as the next five days, 60 degrees on tuesday, 65 wednesday with cloud cover

sports report the ravens were only spectators on this nfl sunday. they're one of six teams on their bye week. the ravens will be back in action next sunday in cleveland. speaking of the browns they were in kansas city this afternoon taking on the undefeated chiefs. the browns were down 13-0 in the 2nd quarter when they pulled out a trick play to score. quarterback jason campbell will hit josh gordon on a 39-yard touchdown. that cuts the kansas city lead to six. however, the chiefs came right on the next drive. alex smith will find dexter mccluster who makes a nice catch for a 28-yard touchdown. kansas city holds on for a 20- 17 win. they are the nfl's only undefeated team while cleveland falls to 3-5. it will the browns and ravens next sunday afternoon in cleveland at 4:15. remember you can see the game live here on wjz. an unbelievable ending in detroit as the lions trailed the cowboys by six in the final
