headquarters. good morning, mike. >> reporter: good morning, don. police respond. they find that three people are dead. two from associated agencies in the city. the street fills up in front of the home of baltimore city fireman andrew hoffman where he and his girlfriend marie hartman were gunned down just after 1:00 sunday morning. >> they're never going to forget you. they're watching down on every single one of us. >> reporter: hartman, the mother of a 6-year-old boy had recently started dating hoffman. last night the families metaphor the first time under the most unthinkable circumstances. >> we're just trying to get through the terrible ordeal. >> reporter: police hearsay that baltimore city police officer robinson is the ex boyfriend of hartman and he shot the couple inside the home before shooting himself. hartman's sister heard the murders. police say that the younger sister actually any idea a closet during the shooting and

had to jump out a window to he is candidate incompetent. >> they will be missed into hoffman was honored in july by police for saving the life of a toddler that he found wandering the streets. >> it shows the character on this young man who was tragically gunned down in this murder-suicide. >> reporter: his parents are thankful for his courage. the families hope that the two can be buried side by side. >> robinson who served in the military joined the police department in 2009. the howard county police officer that was shot last week is waking up at home this morning. steven halk has been released from trauma a the officers returned fire on the suspect but the suspect got away. he was found after a man hunt and treated for a gunshot wound to his leg.

chris brown is in trouble with the law once again. he is accused of attacking a man outside of a washington, d.c. hotel. >> reporter: good morning. sometime today, chris brown will be arraigned in d.c. superior court after a physical altercation left another man bruised and bloody. chris brown and his body guard will face a judge monday morning both charged with felony assault. the 24-year-old sippinger was in washington to emcee this unofficial howard university homecoming event. sometime after he left, police say that brown was outside of the w hotel posing for a picture with fans when the victim jumped into the photo. according to arresting documents, brown said, quote, i'm not down with that gay expletive. i feel like boxing, end quote. police say that brown and his body guard punched the victim in the face. officers arrested him and the victim was taken to the hospital. this could have serious legal consequences for brown.

he is still serving probation for his 2009 attack on former girlfriend rhianna. any arrests could be a violation of his probation and result in jail time. in july he was involved in a hit and run accident and reached a stillville compromise with the other driver. >> the person that brown is accused of attacking had a bruise and swollen face. he has been treated and released from the hospital. the doctor convicted of causing michael jackson's death is a freeman this morning. conrad murray was released from jail. he served two of the four year sentence for involuntarily manslaughter, being credited with time served during the trial. his medical license remains suspended in three states where he previously practiced medicine. three city officers are struck by a speeding car. it happened outside of a nightclub. the officers were monitoring the crowd when a jeep crossed

the road and hit them. the vehicle drove away. police are searching for it and the people inside. the officers are expected to be okay. a candle light vigil held for a father of two who was killed while trying to break up a fight. the 25-year-old gaskins was stabbed to death last week when he tried to intervene in a fight between apparent high school students. >> it's a war zone out here. you know, we have to do it one block at a time. and if i can start on this block here. >> no arrests have been made by gaskins father tells us that the police are looking at several suspects. a second man stabbed in the fight was treated for minor injuries. it has been five months since nsa contractor snowden fled the country with classified documents. information from those documents is still coming out. >> reporter: a european union

delegation is in d.c. this morning to meet with white house aids and members of congress. they are expressing outrage at reports that the nsa has been listening in on 35 world leaders. >> we have repair work to do and hard questions that need to be asked of the nsa about what is really happening in the program. >> reporter: the visit comes on the heels of a new revelation from a german newspaper that says that the nsa listened in on phone calls as far back as 2002 and chief alexander briefed the president on the spying in 2010. the obama administration denies it. but some members of congress are skeptical. >> remember the nsa works for the president. so it's a question of did the president want to hear what the chancellor was saying because through his national security advisor he knew or should have known. >> reporter: others say that the white house has to answer

to no one. >> the president should stop apologizing. the reality is that the nsa has saved thousands of lives in the united states and france and germany and throughout europe. >> reporter: the nsa ended the eavesdropping after a white house review uncovered the operation this summer. >> and more damaging could be coming. greenwald who first reported that snowden had the documents says that the newspaper will publish new revelations this week. more problems for healthcare.gov this weekend. enrollment went down completely yesterday. the problems have angered many in congress. senator is calling for a one- year delay of the mandate that requires all americans have health insurance by march 31st of next year or pay a fine. turning to sports, the world series heads into game five this evening. it's tied up at 2-2. the

a the suspect opened fire on him and two other officers along route 1 last wednesday. the suspect got away. he was later found after an overnight man hunt and treated for a gunshot wound to his leg. tributes coming from all over for rock and roll legend lou reed. he passed away yesterday from an ailment related to a recent liver transplant. here is susan mcbeginis reporting for wjz. >> reporter: lou reed was the driving force behind velvet underground. the band never achieved widespread commercial success but many credit the group with revolutionizing rock in the '60s and '70s and having an influence on future musicians. walk on the wild side was his only top 20 hit. but songs like sweet jane and pale blue eyes became a reed

standard. ♪[music] >> reporter: the singer led the way as the velvet underground collaborated with film makers and artists including andy warhol. >> that's the reason that the records sound the way they sound. andy said, you don't -- don't change anything. leave it alone. >> reporter: the velvet underground was abducted into the rock and roll hall of fame in 1996. he was an admitted hard drinker and drug user. he underwent a liver transplant and called himself a triumph to modern medicine. >> lou reed dead at the age of 71. here police are investigating a shooting at a playground in northwest baltimore that happened saturday night on fulton avenue. 36-year-old barry was shot multiple times on the playground. he later died at the hospital. so far there have been no

arrests. inpolice say the men left the scene after being shot. one was found in a nearby car. another one to a local fire station. no word on their conditions it i hour this morning. and in just a couple of hours, tourists will once again be able to visit ellis island off of new york city. it has been closed for almost a year due to super storm sandy. >> reporter: for the first time in a year, parts of ellis island are back open to the public. starting this morning, tourists can once again travel by boat to the historic island known for welcoming millions of immigrants into the united states. this group of women from europe visited the statue of liberty sunday and plans to visit ellis island today. >> all of the immigrants passed through there. it must have been emotional and scary and exciting. we would like to see it for ourselves. it would be love eto see it.

>> reporter: a year ago, super storm sandy swamped the island with eight feet of water. the storm destroyed boilers and electrical systems and the water washed through the immigration museum. crews moved more than 1 million photographs to climate controlled facilities in maryland. the national park service says that they're still restoring the 27-acre property but for now visitors will be able to tour the main floor and the great hall of the museum, the area once crowded with immigrants. work will until on the island until at least the spring. >> and the island is reopening on announcement vertical passing shutdown and raise eof note. it is the 127th birthday of lady lib are tee. a bomb threat at a movie theater caused evacuation of the building. they were allowed back inside after an hour. there was not a bomb found inside or any other indication

weekend for healthcare.gov. the enrollment system went down completely yesterday. the problems with the marketplace have angered many in congress. new hampshire senator says she is calling for a one-year delay on the so-called individual mandate that requires all americans to have health insurance by march 31st of next year or pay a fine. it is a story we told you about on friday. spinning for a cure. and this weekend, family, friends and exercise enthusiasts did just that. the group biked at the club to raise money for karma for kara foundation. it helps families with people with cancer. it started by kara becker who died of leukemia last december. this event is in her memory. >> we saw how much suffering there was in the hospital. the families were struggling. and we actually organized blood drives and events even while she was being treated. one of the things that warms my

[cheering and applause] >> hello. thank you very much for having me. >> we are excited to see you. i am excited to talk to you about this. i'm sure you have answered this question many times. from harry potter to alan ginsberg, how do you make that transformation? >> with a perm obviously. i got the script about five years ago originally for this

film while i was in the middle of potter. and i loved it and knew i wanted to do it. but it took a while to come around in various forms. and then ultimately when i started doing it, it was just a process of working with the director. he is such a great director. working with him really. and then on the accent and the physicality and researching into his life as a young man, to find out what kind of a man he was. we joked about the perm. but the help of a great hair and makeup team to finish off the transformation. >> it's interesting to talk about. i'm sure that you feel you have been type cast because of your role in the harry potter series. you film a gay sex scene in

this. as an actor, is that challenging? >> i mean, it's no more -- i mean, it's no more challenging than a straight sex scene. sex scenes all have a giggly awkwardness because you're getting naked in front of someone that you just met and in front of a lot of people that you barely know. they all have a similar awkwardness in that sense. other than that, you're there to do a job. you have to get on with it and be professional. you know, you can't hold anything up because you're getting nervous or flustered about something. i have done nude scenes on stage so it's a lot less intimidating doing it in front of 20 people than a thousand. >> i remember covering that story. you mentioned being on stage. how much did you love doing broadway? >> oh, man, it was the best. i mean, it is -- doing a musical is just the most fun

you can have really. it's exhilarating and terrifying and just great. i just did a show in london over the summer that was a play by mcdonough. it never ended up materializing in the end. i would love to do more work on the stage in the states. >> where do you go from here? what else is on your bucket list? >> i just want to keep -- all of the actors that i look up to are people who had long careers and have a very varied body of work behind them. that's what i aspire to. so i hope to keep doing what i'm doing and keep acting and picking slightly off the beaten

path projects. hopefully people will still be interested. that's the hope. >> now, how often do you get home? you said you're in new york now but you're going to fly to l.a. you're all over the u.s. these days. >> you know, in the last couple of months, i've been sort of more, you know, in canada and the u.s., sort of flying around a bit. prior to that i was in the uk for the first 7 or 8 months of the year. i had a lot of time at home this year. it's nice to be over here again because i've done a couple of shows in new york and a couple of movies over here. i have friends in the states who i don't get to see that often. it's nice to catch up with lots of people. >> we love watching you. you do a phenomenal job with the american accent as your role as alan. and i would imagine you're so great at what you do. >> thank you. >> you really nailed it. >> oh, thank you very much. i actually -- when i do an accent on a film, i talk in the

the men left the scene after being shot. one was found in a car and the other went to a local fire station. no word on their current conditions at this hour. the howard county police officer shot and wounded last week is waking up at home this morning. he has been released from shock trauma. the 29-year-old suspect opened fire on him and and two other officers along route 1 last wednesday. he was found after an overnight man hunt. a vigil held for a father of two who was killed while trying to break up a fight. gaskins was stabbed to death last week when he tried to intervene in a fight between some high school students. no arrests have been made in that case as of yet. city police continue to investigate a shooting at a playground in northwest baltimore. it happened on saturday night. barry was shot multiple times on the playground. he later died at the hospital.

so far there have been no arrests in that case either. and three city officers were struck by a speeding car in west baltimore outside of a number club on north franklin town road. the officers were monitoring the crowd when a jeep crossed the road and hit them. one of the officers fired shots at the vehicle but it drove away. police are still looking for the jeep and the people inside it. the officers are expected to be okay. a toddler is in the hospital this morning after a neighbor's dog bit off part of his nose. the 3-year-old may have put his face under a role in the fence. that's when the dog attacked him. the owners have turned the dog over to animal control. a fundraiser gives back to wounded veterans. the catch a lift fundraiser was held last night. it included food, drinks and a silent auction. it provides gym memberships to veterans wounded. st,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
