let's just say you win the $800 million jackpot. we'll reveal who you size up with when it comes to some of the riches celebrities. we'll have that story for you in 25 minutes. >> but first, breaking right now at 4:00, sky 6 just flew over a dangerous scene along pine hills road. investigators tell us a suspect hit multiple cars before coming to a stop and making a run for it. that's when orange county deputies tell us the man tried to carjack someone but was not successful. the suspect is then accused of trying to run away, but we're told he was caught. investigators have closed down pine hills road right now at deville drive to collect evidence. that's near west colonial. we'll let you know as soon as we learn more about the suspect. >> also breaking at 4:00, disturbing allegations against a marion county man. deputies just revealed this afternoon he was recording women using the rest room. matt austin is here with more on this disturbing case. >> yeah, a woman first told deputies she thought she found a

bathroom earlier this week. we're told the video camera was found in the women's bathroom at gator's smokes in ocala. she took a picture of the device and it was hidden inside a fake plant. when deputies went back, the thing was gone. the victim told deputies, though, the store manager, jonathan johnson, had gone into the bathroom several times after she had walked out. deputies later found the recording device in a storm drain in the store's parking lot. investigators analyzed the sd card inside the device and found videos of johnson actually planting the camera inside the bathroom as well as of the victim. johnson is now facing charges of video voyeurism. he's out on bond tonight. we'll have much more on this case coming up at 5:00. >> thank you, matt. breaking right now, six months after a daring escape caught on camera, mexico's president says notorious drug lord el chapo has now been arrested. the president made the

afternoon saying, quote, "mission accomplished. we have it." joaquin guzman, a/k/a el chapo is often called the most powerful drug trafficker in the world. in word yet on how and where he was captured. >> breaking news closer to home. a teenager who police say killed two young men and terrorized an entire county for weeks has accepted a plea deal. >> it could put him in jail for the rest of his life. conrad schaefer was only 15 years old when he and a group of his friends shot up more than a dozen houses in osceola county and he killed two men before first-degree murder. news 6 reporter eric sandoval was in court for today's plea hearing. what kind of deal did he get? >> you know, he pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder and in exchange for that, all the other charges where he's accused of shooting up houses are going to be dropped. in the video we're about to show you of him in court today, you

very, very young man, a young man who is going to probably spend the rest of his life in prison. >> 18-year-old conrad schaefer didn't show any emotion today as he was led into the courtroom in shackles to plead to several charges. >> he and three of his friends terrorized residents of osceola county for weeks. they shot up more than 12 homes and apartments. they say they also killed two people, 17-year-old david guerrero was gunned down while waiting for a bus to take him to work. and another man was shot and killed in a home invasion robbery where investigators say schaefer and his friends got away with only $300. the gun schaefer used, bought by his own father, who spent four months in jail for making it available to him. >> why the plea deal in this? why not go to trial? >> well, it wasn't actually much of a deal. >> state attorney jeff ashton says the only deal schaefer is getting from this is not having to go to trial. he says the family members of

pleaded guilty and they're hoping to move forward now. >> 15 years old. i mean, that's the thing that's hard to wrap your head around. this was a 15-year-old who was out, you know, with a semi-automatic rifle, shooting up osceola county. >> and because schaefer was a juvenile at the time all of this happened, he's actually going to be testing out a brand-new state law. and that requires if a juvenile is sentenced to life in prison, they have hearings every 15 to 25 years, and that's going to be hammered out during sentencing. we talked to family members of the two men who were killed during the shooting spree. hear what they had to tell us, coming up tonight at 5:00. >> thank you, eric. >> developing right now, a wet start to the weekend. >> we don't care, it's the weekend. chief meteorologist tom sorrells is pinpointing when you'll need the umbrella. >> that is precisely the kind of attitude i'm looking for.

it's the weekend. >> that's right. >> look at this rain that's leaving us now. some of you are still plagued by a touch of rain in brevard county. it's been a wet run for all of southern california this week. north of satellite beach and to the west is a lone cell moving this way, putting in a rainfall rate of a .1 of an inch per hour. you can see a few lingering spots of rain on the radar. overall, we turned the corner on the rain for tonight. visibility is still not great in palm coast or new smyrna beach but pretty good everywhere else. the evening forecast looks like this. by 5:00, 70. by 6 p.m., 70 or maybe 69. we're going to hold in the upper 60's and low 70's for a while. coming up, though, i'm going to take you through tomorrow. yes, the fog will be a concern but tomorrow gets really warm before the stormy cold front rolls in. i'll explain in minutes. >> thank you, tom. more breaking news right now. this time about the second of two police officers hurt in shootings today. a boston officer is in the

shot in the leg. police tell us the officer was in plain clothes working in the drug patrol unit around 10:30 this morning when he got shot while trying to perform a traffic stop. police say the officer chased the suspect on foot after a, quote, "unprovoked exchange of gunfire." the officer was then able to tackle the suspect and take away -- before he was taken away. >> i think it goes to the whole idea of the restraint our officers use also. this individual just shot one of our officers and the officers were able to tackle him and not use deadly force and to take him into custody. >> the commissioner says the suspect is on probation after being release from prison back in april. the officer is expected to be okay. in the meantime, in philadelphia, a police officer is recovering from multiple gunshots after a suspect ambushed his patrol car.

just coming in from cbs sources why it's being linked to terrorism. again, that's coming up on news 6 at 5:00. >> homeowners beware, it looks like the trash trouble in orange county will go into the weekend. >> up until last week, trash was picked up manually. now it's automated and work is falling behind. >> as you can imagine, it's causing some big headaches for some neighborhoods. news 6's justin warmoth is working to get results with the county about this. have they figured this whole thing out yet? >> well, county officials are calling these problems basically growing pains. they told me they actually expected this to happen with the new trash company running the trash service. however, for folks who live in a neighborhood like this where the trash and recycling are not picked up at this hour, well, they're just fed up with it. >> this week, orange county rolled out its new automated trash collection. trucks with mechanical arms scoop up county bins. it's supposed to be more efficient. but there have been some hiccups.

be picked up tuesday. they didn't come until 7 p.m. thursday night. county. not only is he upset with the system. >> the truck has to come. they have to line up. then they have to pick up the can. then they have to dump it. then they have to put it back down. the guy would have done four or five houses by then. >> county officials admit the new system has fallen behind and blame a learning curve for both the trash haulers and the homeowners. jim becker, manager of the county's solid waste division, says his guys are working diligently to make sure everyone's trash is picked up. >> our haulers are out. they will pick everything up and they're going to be working tomorrow for any areas they missed during the week. so be confident and patient, if you can. >> but for this man, his patience is already wearing thin. >> here's garbage cans all over the place.

then i had to come back to work. i had to work a whole week. take a look at what's going on on the radar tonight. we've cleaned out much of the rain. if you're watching from brevard county, i have not turned my back on you and never will. i know it's raining. i know, i know, i know. i keep saying hey, it's over. but you've had rain in the last 20 minutes from melbourne to cocoa beach. heavy rain is offshore. out there, it's raining better than a half-inch per hour. on shore cocoa beach to the cocoa isle boulevard there, it's all drying out there. it's kind of misty and overcast, but at least it's not pouring rain anymore. i don't think we're going to get tomorrow. i'll show you the hour-by-hour breakout in minutes. just know, right now we've rebound. we've dropped to 69 degrees at 3:00. rebound at 4:00. back to 71 in melbourne. leesburg at 71 degrees with winds from the northeast at 5. 68 in ocala. 66 in gainesville. 64 in palm coast. 67 out at the cape but the rain is just now leaving you.

a barge today along the florida coast. maybe that's why they're doing it out in california. this is a live look at daytona beach. it's choppy out there. chief meteorologist tom sorrells is pinpointing what we can expect for our friday night. >> not a bad night, really. we've gotten rid of most of the rain. you can see it brevard county you guys have yet to shake it loose. you can't get rid of all the rain hanging on to you for the moment. much of the rain has exited. right there, outside of palm bay along 95, 192, still some slight echoes. we had a touch of rain from cocoa beach to south cocoa. that's gone. so where do we go from here? here's the deal. the rain seems to be wrapping up, which is all good. the visible satellite will show the approach of yet another frontal boundary for the next 24 to 48 hours. you can see it back out there in texas right now. that's going to come whipping across the gulf and we'll end up with more rain. tonight we're good. mostly cloudy. fog sets up late night. 60's. degrees.

what's going on with that fog and the arrival of the front tomorrow and the rain for your saturday afternoon. >> all right. thank you, tom. here's a live look outside, checking out the roadways for your friday afternoon drive. this is i-4 west of the florida turnpike. the cars heading toward you are moving westbound. traffic is stop and go as more drivers are heading out the door. do expect a slow friday afternoon drive. if you're leaving work or heading out for friday night plans. eastbound traffic is picking up but moving smoother than the folks in the westbound lanes. here's a look at the drive times for you. >> well, it was a heartbreaking sight. an organization that helps homeless kids in marion county said vandals broke into one of its store rooms and did this. just terrible. thousands of dollars worth of

to give to students in need in the school system. news 6 reporter mark lehman got a closer look at the destruction today. >> workers have been spending hours cleaning up the mess in marion county. they've been wearing protective masks because of fire extinguisher residue covering nearly everything. this is just a fraction of what's left after vandals ransacked this room. >> over 2,000 pairs of new pajamas, probably about a thousand to 1200 brand-new books that were donated to give to homeless children. we had toys. we had household items and furniture. >> sifting through dozens of bags and boxes, workers are trying to see just how much of this can be salvaged. >> never had to deal with this type of loss or destruction or, you know, to see our hard work and the community's support of our hard work just be destroyed that quickly. >> the school district says vandals caused thousands of dollars worth of damage when they broke into this storage room over the winter break. that dollar figure pales in comparison to the good the items could have done she says.

unfortunately, for any victims that may be involved in this case, the case would have to be dismissed. >> it's been almost two years since peebles, junior, was arrested after finding hundreds of child porn in a storage unit. his father was a well-known swim coach in winter park. peebles, jr. was granted an -- a release. now he's set to be re-evaluated. >> he would have to undergo another series of tests to determine if he were still incompetent or any possibility to restore him to competency. that is what the state is asking. >> under his conditional release, peebles, jr., is under the care of a family member. >> the next competency hearing for him is set for march 31st.

a local subway. what he did next has him in trouble with the law tonight. the man implied he had a gun and demanded cash from the register. this happened inside the store yesterday in daytona beach on mason avenue. the worker then triggered a silent alarm before calling her manager who told him to leave. if you recognize him, call daytona beach police right away. >> a bizarre investigation outside a volusia county store. >> it involves cigarettes, marijuana and a drive-thru window. >> so far, no arrests. matt austin explains this odd case. >> this is a weird one, for sure. you can pay for things with your smartphone now, credit card or, of course, cash. but a bag of marijuana does not count as a form of payment. a man tried to make it happen at the bottle stop liquor store wednesday night in deltona. according to their investigation, the man tossed a bag of pot on to the counter,

we'd love to see what you're seeing in central florida. on to radar. the rain south of the cape -- there it is, right there. it's happening right now. it's not super heavy and no one's getting thumped by it because it's out in the open water for most of you. across the interior, we're dry from gainesville to ocala to the villages. keep in mind, though we've dried out, which means it's not raining right now, fog is going to be a big problem by tomorrow morning. here's the way it went during the day today. visible satellite. you see the first round of the rain exiting, but the cloud deck hangs on, breaking through in the last hour or so, right there. you see it beginning to clear out? that's the best we've been able to do throughout the day today. we have another cold front coming tomorrow evening. we get a decent day tomorrow that we squeeze in. then rain for tomorrow afternoon into the evening hours. i'll show you exactly what i mean in just a moment with the hour-by-hour forecast breakout. daytime high today, 68 in ocala. 72 in the villages. 72 in orlando. the high is 75 which did it in melbourne.

when a car hauler burst into flames along the highway in the scottsmoor fire. the front of the semi exploded more. crews managed to put it out but still don't know what caused it. the main thing, though, is no one was hurt. >> fitbit is facing a lawsuit from a number of users who say their health monitors are inaccurately estimating their heart rate, especially during exercise. the class-action lawsuit points to the charge hr and surge model. fitbit is standing by its product. >> i've had my fair share of time monitoring hundreds of traffic cameras across central florida. i've never seen anything like this. a snowy owl flew by the camera's lens. experts say the owl was probably hunting prey in a nearby field or just looking for a good place to perch. it almost doesn't look real.
