here' s a live look at orlando it' here' s danny trainer with the latest from the pinpoint accurate weather center. >> reporter: there have been some past events where it' s been so cold and it has been icing and there' s been a little flurry of snow. a lot of history with the marathon. one of the most successful events disney puts together. and later on this afternoon, after the marathons, the rain' s going to try to move in. maybe 3- 4- 5:00 this afternoon. as justin pointed out, it looks like fog is the main issue. some visibility down to a third or quarter of a mile. watching some rain. not a lot on the radar right at the moment. however this is the issue right at the moment. look at the visibility in ocala. very restrictive in the orlando you' ll run into banks of fog

so please give yourself extra time this morning. probably takes until 9:00 to burn off. then look way over here to the west, a new frontal boundary that wants to push through. and as it does today, it' s going to increase our chances of rain. i think by 4- 5:00 this afternoon, dealing with showers and maybe heavy downpours. right at the moment the temperatures in the 60s with a lot of moisture in the air and that' s the reason for the fog and it looks like up around 81 today. watch out this afternoon. heavy rain, justin. >> reporter: thanks so much. this morning a pair of dog nappers are on the run. surveillance video at the puppy shop on east colonial drive shows two suspects wandering the store. then one leaves before the other bolts out with a $2,000 puppy. news 6' s amanda castro tells us how this quick heist happened. >> and how they close that door for one second. he took off. >> reporter: the dog thief caught on camera accused of

>> and the guy holding the yorkie bolted out the door and before eddie knew it, he was already across the street and couldn' t catch up with him. >> reporter: owner charles black say the man and woman are seen on the store' surveillance cameras. they spend about an hour looking at puppies going crib to crib and sometimes just standing for minutes talking to each other. weren' t going to pay for the dog. they were just waiting for the right moment where he could bolt with the dog. >> reporter: the woman left, supposedly to get her credit card. then minutes later the man runs out of the store with the dog. this is the second time someone stole a yorkie from this store in 3 months. cameras were rolling in november when a woman was caught trying to put a dog in her purse. and in 2013, surveillance video caught a man stuffing a pug down his pants. they were arrested. >> when you come in and steal from us, you know, with we get you you' ll pay full price and

>> justin: that was amanda castro reporting. the owners tell news 6 they' re offering a $250 reward for any information that helps lead them to an arrest. this morning we' re working to find out how a volusia county toddler is doing after they were bitten by a dog. it happened yesterday at this home in delion springs on commerce avenue. the 19 month old was air lifted to arnold palmer with the bite on the head. deputies say the initial description of the dog was a pit bull. animal control is investigating. just days before her ex- boyfriend' s suspected trial, the mother of a missing jacksonville toddler, londsey barton, took the stand against reuben ebron, the prime suspect in the case. scott jons tells us more about the key testimony. >> reporter: lana barton takes the stand and what she talks about most was drugs. in fact it took quite awhile to get her and ebron' s slang down

we did learn one thing would be allowed. his cell phone records. news4jax analyst says that can be critical because it can be used to help prosecutors against the argument made that t remember the exact date of the alleged drug deals. >> now we' ll be able to take the cell phone and text messages and saying he' s making drug transactions at the times he was watching the kids. and if lana can remember the exact times he was in custody of londey, they can tell and match it up with the times he was making drug transactions. >> justin: that' s scott johnson reporting. lana barton pleaded guilty to charges of child neglect and giving false information on wednesday. she faces up to 5 years in prison. barton on will be sentenced february 1st. this morning we' re learning new details surrounding a substitute teacher accused of telling students she let them. this all happened thursday at

according to daytona beach police, the substitute told 24ird graders if they disrespected her, it' s been known for people to come to school with an ak- 47 and shoot kids. she said she had a key to the classroom and would let the gunman come in and shoot them between eyes. the sub was removed from the clas. the school promises she won' t come back. some troopers are putting their eye to the sky. they' re trying to catch a coyote. we told you about it monday spotted on the man' s surveillance camera on indian harbor beach. the man thinks it may have taken his pet cat which is still missing. according to the news partners, trappers will use a drone and unmanned trail cameras to try to find the coyote. they believe two coyotes are tonight someone' s 2016 we' re, of course, talking about the biggest powerball jackpot

>> justin: this morning a philadelphia police officer is no doubt fortunate to be alive after a ginman who pledged allegiance to the islamic statan bushed his patrol car. the surveillance video show - - state ambushed his patrol car. he fired at point blank range. the officer was hit 3 times. archer was arrested near the scene and later told police he

police say there is no indication the shooter was tied to a larger terror plot, but the fbi and the department of homeland security are also now investigating. >> they' re executing search warrants in his property in upper darby and also one in southwest. >> justin: authorities say archer has a criminal history and the gun used was stolen from a philadelphia police officer two years ago. officer hartnet was seriously injured, but is expected to be okay. caught on camera, a disruption on board a united flight. police say a woman attacked a flight attendant after a drink was spilled. the passenger shot the video of the woman being restrained. this was on a united flight from new york to chicago. the plane had to make an emergency landing in detroit. 69 passengers and 4 crew members were on board. the flight was delayed about an hour before it was able to head to chicago. separating itself from

campbell soup will - - rivals. campbell soup will be the first company to start gmo labeling. the largest soup maker says it supports a mandatory labeling standard for products with genetically modified ingredients and is withdrawing support from efforts opposing the move. many industry groups sought to make the labeling voluntary. about three quarters of campbell' s products contain gmo' s. great things can come from a thrift store but somehow one of the most well known awards in pro sports landed in one all the way from augusta. the 1969 green jacket, an original green jacket, was found at the gild shop in the form of a surprise donation. as you probably know some of golf' s greatest rising stars vie for the jacket at the masters tournament. it' s rare to see one of these glorious green garments away from the georgia homeland. even masters tournament winners are only allowed to keep them for a year before they have to return them to the club.

year- old girl inside. surveillance video captured part of the child' s frightening experience. take a look. watch as the man walked up to the kia before taking off. the owner rushed after the car because he knew his step daughter was inside. there' s a child in the backseat! and then when i said that he accelerated and hit the gas very hard and spin around and almost hit the gas pump and almost take the gas pump and that is when i try to cut him off in the front of it. if i had cut him off, he would have run over me. >> as a parent you' re supposed to protect your child and i couldn' t do anything. >> justin: the thief quickly realized the child was in the backseat of the car. coral springs say he let the girl out on the side of the road not far from the gas station. she was then found by a jogger crying on the side of the street. that thief is still on the run

family out safely. investigator louis bolden is putting the smoke to the test. >> it' s the middle of the night and the house catches fire. luckily you' ve got smoke detectors to wake you up. >> my mind is like i got to get my kids. i can' t get them if a don' t. >> on memorial day the home caught fire with their 10 children inside. 3 of the kids were burned and several others suffered smoke inhalation. >> i was in the hospital 3 days. >> reporter: but why didn' t the robertsons have more time to escape? after all, they say they had 2 working smoke detectors. >> even with all the smoke that came out of the room, it still didn' t get no sound from the smoke detector. it never went off. >> the robinsons said they had the most popular smoke detector. the ionization type used in 90% of american homes according to the national fire protection association. they work well in big, fast- moving fires but not in

that kill most people at night. >> if you have an ionization detector and small developing fire, it may burn for 20 minutes, 50 minutes before the detector sounds. >> reporter: news 6 investigates. working with fire fighters we side test comparing the ionization detector to the newer photoelectric detector said to be much faster. first we stuffed 2 glass tanks with polyester material. then we insert two pins trying to start a slow fire. we start the time clock and almost immediately smoke begins to build. at 4 minutes 5 seconds the photoelectric smoke detector goes off. look at the other tank. 5, 10, 15 minutes into it, the smoke swirling, but the ionization detector does nothing. in a real fire, veteran fire

computer shifted and had it mostly concentrated in the orlando area back into the villages and into ocala. it shifted a little more to the north and then we see rains coming in across osceola county also. then it all clears out by 11:00, 12:00 and we push it on out into the atlantic ocean. this is the storm we' re talking about as it makes its way closer and closer to us. it will change the winds to the southerly direction. this morning out of the north. the rain chances are 30% this afternoon going up to 40% tonight and small craft cautions are mentioned in the forecast. hour by hour today, temperatures to peek out to around 81 and start dropping to 80 and by 4:00 this afternoon but rain chances go up and then temperatures are going to be, well, around 75 to 81 and tonight. dropping down into the 60s. for everybody the cool spot will be ocala. and what' s going on for the next 7 days. first of all today and tomorrow, chance of rain for today. 30%. then 40% tonight.

detector sounds. >> reporter: news 6 investigates. we compare the ionization smoke detector to the newest photoelectric smoke detector said to be much faster. first we insert two hot pins smoldering fire. we start the time clock and almost immediately smoke begins to build. at 4 minutes 5 seconds the photoelectric smoke detector goes off. but look at the other tank. 5, 10, 15 minutes into it, the smoke swirling, but the ionization detector does nothing. in a real fire, veteran fire fighter brian says this could be deadly because fires can double in size every 5 minutes. >> by the time it goes off there is too much to get out of the house safely.
