results awards special presentation here on news 6. each tuesday night at 6:00 we shine a light on people in central florida who deserve a shout out and you get to guide who is deserving. in november we received a nomination having on two high schoolers who have raised thousands for disabled kids. they've done it beyond their typical fundraiser. >> we've been here since i think 4:00 in the morning putting all this together. >> volunteers showed up before dawn.

it's going to be a great time. >> and under a golden glow, runners prepared to compete for a cause. >> but the real work began american red cross ago. you see, behind it all an unlikely pair. >> high school juniors lake and daniel organized the entire event. an event that quite frankly wouldn't be here without them. >> lake and daniel are passionate, caring. >> the 5k now in its fourth year helps raise money for united van radical palsy. >> the participants here are running for those who can't. >> it began with four of our classmates. four years ago. one of them has van radical palsy and -- cerebral palsy. two years they moved away, and we had to take control of it and we made it our own. >> they've made it their own and it's grown as a result.

definitely getting results. year after years we see the numbers grow. >> joe an says the money will go a long way to helping kids like her own. >> keep going, guys. come on. >> these kids benefit. >> and they need it. running an entire race is a lot of work. but during a moment of downtime i caught up with the boys. >> we want to award you the news 6 getting results award. >> really? >> lake and daniel, congratulations. >> thank you so much. >> we learned a lot of things in high school. >> cheer on number 443. he's coming in on the last stretch. >> lake and daniel are proof that compassion. >> we love doing it. we couldn't go away. we had a great race today. we look forward to you next year. we found out lake and daniel raised nearly $19,000 that event last month. their goals are even higher for next year and both say they want to keep the event going even after they graduate. well, dedication.

winners have, but that word stuck out to us when we read our next winner's nomination form. she's someone who has brought thousands of smiles to kids in local hospitals and as you'll see she's doing it one stitch at a time. >> we have way too much fun. >> at heartfelt quilting in kissimmee smiles come in bunches. >> they call me chatty kathy. >> i don't see it. >> it's the comrade re. it's knowing other women who like to do the same things you do. >> we'll be sewing until after midnight. >> it means a lot to me that i can do something for children. >> the group sews personalized pillow cases for patients at pediatric hospitals. >> if we can get their mind off it for a little while.

>> this is just for you. >> -- can be hard to come by. >> we can't help their bodies, but at least we can help their smiles. >> pat says she couldn't do any of it without her volunteers spread cross central florida. nationwide cases for smiles recently gave away their one mill i don't know pillow case. >> our next story takes us to timber creek high school in orange county. this is not a teacher, but they make a huge impression just the same. >> when the bell rings you'll see that, they'll all start running. >> it's lunchtime at timber creek high, but it looks more like a black friday rush. >> okay. i see you. >> in the middle of the controlled chaos. >> josh, how are you today. >> for the last 15 years. >> they remember me as the lunch guy. >> he's been right here behind the chairs. he's the food manager. >> spicey chicken. pizza.

>> he's somewhat of a legend around here. >> if you go anywhere with him in the community all the kids are like, hey. >> you might call it the cheers of calf tier i can't see. >> it's where everybody knows your name. the or at least ray does. and it's not just the names he's taken the time to learn. >> i sort of know what they want to eat already. >> it may not be the best day. sometimes hearing a little something makes it better. >> you doing all right? >> 232 students pack this cafeteria every day. ray has scenes tens of thousands pass through here, but finally it's his senior year. >> i'm retiring, so that's my graduation. >> next year ray won't be here to prod kids into eating something healthy. >> is there any vegetables? i've got corn, carrots. >> we decided it was time for ray to get served. >> we are giving you the news 6

she ran a daycare for more than 40 years until they are death earlier this month. isabelle was 95 years old when we got an e-mail from one of her former students now a mom herself telling us what a loving mentor she was to generations of kids. we knew we had to meet her. >> i love being with the children. >> you could call it. >> because that's the very favorite. >> her bread and butter. >> some of them get a little more butter than others. >> for 44 years isabelle has been the executive chef in this tiny kitchen. >> that's my life. her patrons can be fuss knee. >> well, what do you want me to fix? >> it's here at kiddy haven where some say isabelle and her daughter sheli raised winter park. sheli handles most of the day to day now. >> thousands of kids have passed through here. many of their faces are still on the walls. some doctors, lawyers, and teachers.
