first, chief meteorologist is predicting the cold front. >> a lot of folks are complaining this morning, it was a frosty start, clear as can be from orlando to atlanta. a few clouds built in during the overnight and some are lingering first thing today. here are the official overnight lows. dropped to 28 in gainesville, 32 in ocala and 41 in orlando. we hit the forecast overnight low on the noggin. we dropped to 38 in sanford and smyrna beach. where are we now? we rebounded nicely. we've got a reading at news time of 65. same thing in leesburg and 59 in new smyrna beach right now. i don't have any freeze warnings. we're not going to freeze up tonight. but i do have a frost watch in effect for marion county that goes until 9 a.m. tomorrow morning. that's the only watch or warning that we have. our forecast low tonight, 34 ocala, 37 in the villages and 43 right here in orlando.

warm-up that is on the way and the arrival of big rain. see you in a few. >> thank you, tom. we're getting breaking news just in on a hit-and-run that left a 3-year-old boy hurt. matt austin is joining us with the new developments and we're hearing there's been an arrest. >> yeah. winter garden police tell us 34-year-old billy gibson turned himself in this afternoon. he has been charged but not booked just yet. he was driving his chrysler along east cypress street yesterday when he hit the little boy. family members of the victim tell news 6 the toddler was buying ice cream with his brother when the car knocked him on to some nearby grass. the boy was rushed to the hospital and has since been released. he's okay. we'll let you know as soon as we learn more about this suspect, though. >> also breaking right now, bond has been denied for an orange county teenager accused of running over and nearly killing an orlando police officer. edward kelty wanted to be released ahead of his trial but just within the last 20 minutes,

ruling, denying that request. he's accused of hitting officer william anderson during a traffic stop last july. we'll let you know when his trial begins. >> right now, we're working to see if state leaders will stop executions here in florida. this comes after a huge supreme court ruling today that declared unconstitutional. justices sawed they thought state law gave too much power to judges when it comes to sentencing someone to death and they say the power should be in the jury's hands. we first told you about today's ruling this morning in a breaking news alert on the news 6 mobile app. eric sandoval is getting answers about what this ruling means. what have you found out? >> you know, it was just two months ago we were standing literally right here at the same spot, telling you about the latest death sentence handed down at the orange county courthouse. this afternoon, that sentence is now in limbo. i found out it's up to lawmakers now. and they basically have two choices. they can either change the state

u.s. supreme court decision or get rid of executions altogether. >> we're recovering right now. they're recovering. i will never recover. >> he says today's supreme court ruling hit he and his family out in the air. today's u.s. supreme court decision puts death sentences up in the air, ruling on another florida case today. a death sentence today was ruled unconstitutional. justice sonia sotomayor wrote the 6th amendment requires a jury, not a judge, to find each fact necessary to impose a sentence of death. a jury's mere recommendation is not enough. >> that leaves the cases of 390 florida death row inmates uncertain right now. we counted them and found 85 of

in central florida. zaldivar's father says he hopes the sentences of those inmates is not changed. is nothing. it's like being in the parking lot with the fence around it. they live a normal life. >> okafor case was a county. we have another high-profile case that begins next week. luis toledo's trial begins. he's accused of murdering his wife, yessenia suarez, and her two children. what does today's decision mean for that case? we're going to explore that coming up in the story we're putting together right now for 5:00. we're live at the orange county courthouse. >> thank you. in just hours the president's final chance to assess the state of the union. the address will be unlike any he's delivered before. >> we're getting hints right now on what he's expected to say and future.

the president's final state of the union address is set for 9:00 tonight and you can watch it right here on news 6 or on clickorlando.com, powered by news 6. >> from the state of the union to the state of the state, florida got its message from the governor just before noon and he's talking money. lots of it. $1 billion in tax cuts and the promise of more job growth. >> i've never heard of a businessperson that wanted to grow a smaller business. if we put more money in their pockets, they're going to spend it on research and new equipment and hiring to create more jobs. >> scott pointed out 1 million jobs have been created since he took office five years ago and he's pushing lawmakers to pass the tax cuts to ensure more growth. it will eliminate corporate tax charged to manufacturers and retail companies. scott starts a statewide bus proposals. >> orlando police are helping get results tonight.

even up in gainesville, we're holding at 60. 67 does it in cocoa beach. overnight lows tonight are going back to where they were within about four degrees in most spots. this morning, 35 in ocala. we jumped to 32 there last night. 37 in the villages. going 43 in orlando. this is how we're going to get there. temperature change in the last 24 hours has been about 5 degrees. we're 5 degrees warmer now than we were yesterday at the same time. same in ocala. 7 degrees warmer in the villages and leesburg and 11 degrees warmer in flagler county and daytona beach than we were yesterday at the same time. a big ridge of high pressure is for now our dominant weather feature. a frontal zone is producing rain from miami into the islands. none of that will affect us. what we will be dealing with a return to cloud cover. by 5 a.m. tomorrow morning, a few more clouds will begin to get in here. they'll save the day, keeping us warmer than last night and help

by 1 p.m. tomorrow afternoon, cloudy from osceola county down to brevard and an increase in high clouds on wednesday and thursday night things go the other way. for this night, the overnight low in orlando is 43. we'll call it clear and chilly. here is tomorrow. first thing in the morning, 46 degrees at 8 a.m. by noon, 57. daytime high tomorrow is 65 degrees. so clear and cool. we're not quite back to the normal range of 71 or 72, but we're getting a little bit warmer every day. 65 tomorrow. thursday, a high of 70. thursday night's low, 61. overnight thursday night into friday is when the moisture arrives. friday's daytime high is 74 and same on saturday and another cold front for sunday and monday of next week. >> tom, thank you. ahead at 4:00, breaking down new fast-food facts. what parents need to know.

for a warmer place to sleep. look over my shoulder here. they're going to do the cuddle alert dance there for a long time. a frost watch is in effect for marion county. let's show the folks at home what's going on. you can see the visible satellite here. the activity is working its way to the south of us. clouds are lingering and some of these are surging this way from the gulf. that will be one of the things that changes and helps us out the most is an increased chance of clouds tonight. right now, from orlando to jacksonville all the way to atlanta, it's clear. overnight lows this morning, we dropped to 32 in ocala. 37 in the villages. gainesville dropped to 28. we fell to 41 in orlando. right now, we're doing okay. it actually feels great. it's not too breezy. in the sunshine it feels awesome. here's another look at the frost watch that is right here from marion county around to putnam county and back to the west where we have a freeze problem going on north of there. all the way up to alachua.

targeted by people with pellet guns, costing potentially thousands to repair. here's more on what the business now. >> you can't miss boards up on windows and vandalism along colonial drive right now. the businesses are still trying to arrange repairs as police search for the person responsible. >> this is the worst case of orlando. >> the owner of united glass service has been in the glass repair business for 20 years. but in the last two days, he's been called to replace 30 panes. >> it's just an act of senseless vandalism. i can't understand why somebody would do something like this. >> over the weekend, orlando police say nearly a dozen businesses on colonial drive had windows shattered or damaged by someone driving by with a pellet gun. it's not just an eyesore. these damages could cost businesses thousands of dollars to fix. >> we spoke with the office

its atlas 5 and delta 4 rockets and spacex hopes to add at least as many launches using historic launch pad 39-a. one is expected to debut the company's heavy lift falcon9 rocket. last year was the busiest year since 2000 with 17 launch attempts. we'll being covering all the upcoming launch attempts on air and online at clickorlando.com. >> a man accused of killing his girlfriend's daughter after sexual assaulting her is set to go to trial in march. you may remember this disturbing case from august of 2014. the 43-year-old man is accused in the death of the girl. he committed the crime and doused the apartment with bleach and buried the young girl's remains near champions gate. her body was found days later. he lied about leaving work the day the teen vanished and lied about borrowing the car and driving it to her home.

march 7th. >> new details on a pint-sized puppy stolen from an orlando pet store. >> police are saying they found the dog. >> matt austin joins us with the major break in this investigation. >> we're still trying to figure out how it all happened. what we do know, this adorable yorkie was snatched from a store is safe tonight with police. it comes just after news 6 showed you this surveillance video. you can clearly see a couple stealing the dog from the puppy stop on east colonial drive. the couple was caught on the store's 14 cameras. they were going crib to crib before finally setting their sights on that adorable little york yorky and then darting out. police tweeted out this picture with one of the detectives and the puppy. he convinced the suspect to return the yorkie. we called police to find out if anyone is under arrest. they wouldn't reveals those details to us.

>> this afternoon, more information is coming out about the florida native found dead in her florence apartment. >> not only about the evidence at the crime scene but what friends say about the 35-year-old's final moments alive. >> they say ashley olson opted to stay behind at a nightclub late friday night. that's the last time they saw her. it wouldn't be until later on when detectives say her boyfriend and land lady discovered her body inside her apartment. according to sources, the apartment was in chaos, broken glass and a smashed chair. clothes were everywhere and olson was wearing only socks. new reports also indicate she

but the poor manatees, they cannot. they're like babies when it comes to this cold weather. as we zoom in on the pinpoint weather map, you can see west of orange city, you can see blue springs park as we take a live look. they're just too cute not to just sit here and watch them. they're just sitting out there hanging out on a nice afternoon. it is chilly. the reason why they head to the blue spring, normally the water temperature, when the temperature drops, the air temperature, temperature in the water hits about 58 degrees. that's the current temperature right now off the volusia coast. but this is the big concern, though. the blue springs starts to come out under the water and warms things up a little bit. the water in this area tends to stay the same temperature all year long. when the water starts to cool down everywhere else, this is out. if you look real close, right there, those big mounds of manatees out there just hanging out. overall, this is a live look at

a man who walked into a pet store store, grabbed a python and this always happens in these stories, he stuffed the 2-foot reptile right down his pants and walked out of the store like nothing happened. >> he's lucky it wasn't feeding day. feeding days are on mondays. and they're very hungry. >> the pet owner says the snake is worth about $200. so far, the suspect has not been caught. i feel it's a trend. we do all these stories of people putting animals down their pants. remember the person who put an alligator down his pants? >> the biggest shock to the story is it was an oregon man and not a florida man. >> that's a relief. >> the poor animals don't deserve that. they don't ask to be shoved in your pants. >> i want to thank you, ginger, for telling us not to try that at home.
