but it's the first time we've had a named storm in the atlantic this early since 1978 and only the fourth time on record ever have we had a named system in january. but there she blows, or i should say there he blows. tropical storm alex across the atlantic as a subtropical storm. radar tonight is clear in central florida. we've had a pretty good day. 59 in orlando right now. 57 in leesburg and 58 in gainesville. i'll be back in a few minutes to take you hour by our overnight and pinpoint your lows and rumbling thunderstorms coming to see you. >> thank you, tom. we're following breaking news in a high-profile triple murder case in volusia county. matt austin joins us now with the sudden hearing planned for luis toledo. >> it's happening first thing tomorrow morning. prosecutors filed a motion to delay toledo's trial. he's accused of killing his wife

their bodies never were found. toledo is facing the possibility of a death penalty if convicted, that is, until the supreme court ruled yesterday the death penalty system in the state of florida is unconstitutional. the state attorney is reviewing the case to see if the ruling would impact toledo trial. it was supposed to begin monday. again, the defense wants the trial to start right now. the prosecution, though, not so much. we'll be in court tomorrow and we'll let you know what happens. >> all right, matt. thank you. also right now, powerball fever enters its final hour. the lotto machines are pumping out tickets non-stop. news 6's erik von ancken is live at the wawa in winter park. they had some issues there today. >> yeah, ginger, we had a little bit of drama with this machine earlier today. it seems it got a little overwhelmed and you can see why. check out the line. >> it's working now. >> got a warnings message. >> an error message on the

for a few minutes around noon, the machine wasn't spitting out any tickets or much of anything, for that matter. until the manager came to the rescue. if you've ever wanted to know what it looks like behind the button and bright lights, this is the inside of a powerball machine and it apparently james occasionally if the bills are not fed in flat and straight. today there are lots of bills going in. >> basically because of the volume of people buying, there was $1 bill stuck in the feeder. >> he puts back the collection tray after pulling out the stuck buck and closes it all up. >> nothing major, sir. so they're ready to go. >> we want that game. >> there was also a bit of confusion for first time players, learning that they have to use cash, not credit. >> you have to take it out, take it out, take it out. we're going to need the slip.

are now in custody after an armed robbery and shooting in brevard county. this happened at a gas station in cocoa where police say the store clerk fired shots at the would-be robbers. so here are the three people now in custody. police say one of the guys just had surgery after being shot by that clerk. this all happened last night at the chevron on u.s. 1, just north of king street. police say one of the men entered the store wearing a mask, pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded money. but the clerk responded by pulling out his own gun. when officers arrived they found one of the suspects, shot, lying on the ground. the trio is now facing charges for robbery with a firearm. news 6 reporter amanda castro is following this story for us and she'll have much more coming up tonight at 5:30. >> sky 6 is live over some breaking news. this is near the colonial town center in orlando. police are telling us they found a body. this is behind the guilt

near colonial. of course, we're keeping a close eye on this developing story and we'll bring you the latest information as soon as we get it into the newsroom. >> the orlando city soccer club announced their new stadium being built in downtown orlando is not opening this year as planned. they say the construction is taking longer than expected. justin warmoth is live in downtown orlando. what's next for the 2016 season? >> well, this all means that orlando city will play their entire 2016 season at the citrus bowl, where they played many of their seasons prior to this one. here's a look at the construction and where it stands right now. it's unclear the exact reason behind the delay, but i was just told by club reps it was in part because they were finalizing some design details but wouldn't elaborate further. >> it was an electric year for the orlando city soccer in 2015.

excitement of a new soccer stadium which the new club thought they would debut at the end of the 2016 season. the $155 million privately funded stadium won't be ready until 2017 at the latest. >> at least they're going in a positive direction. we like to see it done for our businesses and transportation up in through here, through the hood, but otherwise we're still behind them. >> with the big announcement today, we wanted to get orlando mayor buddy dyer's reaction. he gave us this statement. quote, "our community has a history of building world class state-of-the-art venues, more than just buildings but iconic region. it's important that these buildings are done right to ensure they can continue to serve our community for decades to come." from sky 6, you can see what crews have been able to accomplish so far at the downtown orlando site.

it goes past the islands of the azores here, boom, up to the north. no worries for us. it's not going to be a player in the forecast. it's just interesting. radar tonight is clear, but that won't last. we're finally going to have some more rain to track on radar eventually. >> daytime highs today, we hit 55 in ocala. we did hit 60 in orlando. 61 in kissimmee and 59 in sanford. right now, we're back to 59. so we stopped right at that 60-degree mark into the afternoon hours. today's 60 did it for a high today at the cape and 61 at cocoa beach and melbourne. temperature change in the last 24 hours, yesterday at this time we made it to a high of 67. but the clouds came over us today and shut down the heat and the warm-up. so we didn't get up to 65 like we were really hoping we would. we stopped at 60. here's what the clouds look like right now. see the satellite and radar together? it's cloudy all over florida. no rain yet, though. you look to the south and there's scattered showers down here. eventually moisture begins to

24 to 48 hours as the pocket of low pressure rolls through here. temperatures zoom to 70 tomorrow and we get the wrap-around cold front that's going to make all the difference in the world. by 10:00 tonight, we're grayed over with a lot of cloud cover. we'll stay at 48, 49 degrees, depending on where you are. clouds and rain tomorrow at 8 a.m., not a big deal. thursday at 6 p.m., not much. late thursday, rain moves in from the southland. by friday morning at 3 a.m., meteorologist troy bridges will be here tracking the arrival of the first of the showers. these are not crazy. the overnight thursday night into friday is fine. during the day on friday, we ramp it up a bit. this is friday at 7 a.m. heavier showers in daytona beach to the villages to ocala. here comes the cold front. this is friday morning, 9 a.m. frontal zone here, lots of moisture here. so it's kind of a rainy scenario. by 12:00, into the 1 p.m. hour, the cold front is here. we have rocking thunderstorms

sex with a teen. this comes as she was rearrested for tampering with evidence. sarah moore was arrested last week for having sex with a teenage boy several times over the course of months. news 6 reporter eric sandoval is getting answers about all of this. you found out prosecutors have actually changed the charges against her? >> you're absolutely right. you know, when she was first arrested last week, this former substitute teacher was facing 10 counts of sex battery. but just within the last 45 minutes, we have found out that prosecutors have officially charged sarah moore with seven counts of lewd and lascivious behavior. that replaces those 10 counts she originally faced. but things are getting a lot worse for moore. she was arrested again last night. now she's facing more charges that she tampered with evidence. >> st. cloud police say 35-year-old sarah moore was caught in the act. they say a worker at this verizon store in st. cloud called them after he was asked to help moore delete pictures

an evidence locker at the police station. moore, a substitute health teacher at st. cloud middle school, was arrested last week on charges that she had sex with a teenage boy several times. police seized that phone as evidence. she had bonded out of jail. but today she was back, accused of trying to delete those pictures and changing her pass code so police could not access what was on it. >> her attorney put up this defense. >> it's my understanding she had her daughter cell phone and trying to get it activated. i don't know why the pass code would have been altered or changed in any way. >> but the clerk says that's not true. he says moore told him she was in trouble with police and wanted to know how to remotely remove the pictures from her cell phone. he says he didn't help her. st. cloud police say they don't know if any of those pictures were deleted, but they do know the pass code to access that phone had been changed. moore's bond was set high today.

that will change. as a matter of fact, 24 hours from now i'll have something to track coming in from down south. overnight lows this morning weren't too bad. we had the cloud cover come in and save us. 37 in ocala. 35 in gainesville. even alachua county did not freeze up overnight. 44 did it in sanford last night. we dropped to 45 in orlando and down in cocoa beach last night you bottomed out at 54, which is almost normal for this time of year. right now, we're hanging in with temperatures of 57 in jacksonville. 63 in pensacola. the temperature in ocala and the villages both at 55. so is new smyrna beach. 58 in sanford and 59 does it at o.i.a. we're on the way down. what you're looking at here is the water vapor loop. you can see the cloud cover and the moisture. it's all beginning to build. the grayness up here, that's a little bit of light moisture, too. no dark zones out there. the moisture will bubble in from the gulf of mexico. around the tampa bay area, watch

you can see a few speckles of rain trying to come ashore. we're looking for heavier showers down south. the warm front is going to lift through here during the day tomorrow. the wrap-around cold front comes back on the backside. tomorrow is okay through much of the day. here's tomorrow at 8:00. here's tomorrow at 5, 6 and 7. here's tomorrow into the night. take a look. what a difference, huh? overnight thursday night into friday morning at 4 a.m. is when the rain begins. it's not super wild. but early friday morning, 7 a.m. daytona beach, ocala, the villages. by 10:00 in the morning, the cold front is right here, ready to move on shore. the showers begin to ramp it up. some of them may be twisting. by 1:00 in the afternoon in orlando, the front is right on top of us in the viewing area, pushing on through. it could be a very rough run between about 10:00 on friday morning until about 2 or 3:00 friday afternoon. we have another cold front coming in on sunday that will really make us cold.
