4:06 pm
we'll continue to see a bunch of these little blue dots start popping up around town, indicating the power outages. we had crews out and about all around town today. you can see we're still seeing plenty of workers out there trying to get that power back up. they did a great job today. because, again, this is more of a wind maker rather than a rainmaker and some of that win brought debris on some of those power lines. when we spoke to some people and the crews, they said that was a big concern. we spoke to someone, an owner of 7-eleven, who say it really dampened his business today. >> so far, we were out of power for an hour and a half and i lost a lot of business. hopefully the power is coming back. >> again, we have about 1800 more customers that are still without power but hopefully they will all be back up and running later on today. >> thank you, candace. all the dry weather we're dealing with right now, a relief for drivers heading home.

4:08 pm
wasn't able to make its way to the drainage until we brought an excavator in and cleared it up so the water could funnel off the roadway and function as it's intended to. so now we're aware that's an issue and we can look at other areas along the 21 miles so we can make some improvements. >> things are looking a lot better out there right now. coming up on news 6 at 6:00, we'll take a closer look at construction through the area and tell you what's coming up in the next few months. >> thank you, julie. >> don't forget, you can get breaking weather alerts and live radar anytime on our free news 6 pinpoint weather app. just search wkmg in your app store. >> we will check back in with tom with more on the big weather changes coming this weekend in less than 15 minutes. >> a crime tracker alert to tell you about this afternoon. a burglar is caught not only breaking into an apartment but those who lived in the apartment he was breaking into attacked, stabbed and killed him this morning around 6:00 this morning

orlando and 75 right now in melbourne. wind speeds tonight has really dialed it back down. we have a very brisk 20-mile-an-hour wind right now in sanford, 17 in orlando. but we don't have winds of 25 gusting up to 40 like we had about 9:00 this morning that went past 60 miles per hour with our warnings. that's done. by tomorrow morning, the wind speeds will be down to like 5, 10, maybe 4 or 5 miles per hour. it's all going our way in the next 24 hours. 7:00 tomorrow morning, we're going to cool down enough with all the moisture we picked up today, we picked up more than an inch and a half in some spots. with all that moisture in the bucket, there's going to be patchy fog. overnight low tonight, about 57. we'll start out with a touch of cloud cover but as the day wears on, i really think most of this rain here is oversold. i think tomorrow is going to be perfect. we had a good day today after the storms got through. sunday looks to be kind of similar. here we go, sunday, 4 a.m.,
4:20 pm
this may be a little bit oversold. hopefully it is. here's sunday at 9 a.m. from sanford to orlando to kissimmee. big rain. by 10 a.m., it's gone. and then colder air really takes over. this cold front is coming almost straight due north to south and it's going to bring in a really cold punch. tonight, there's no cold punch here. temperatures in the low to mid-50's across the area. some of us in the upper 50's. 56 to 57 for the overnight low. here's tomorrow. >> patchy fog early on tomorrow and becoming mostly sunny. i don't think you're going to see too much in the way of rain although we might eke out a spritz or two. really warm. that's the bottom line. our daytime high tomorrow is 77 degrees. so 77 tomorrow. then on sunday, wowza, a high of only 67. and martin luther king, jr. celebration day on monday, a high of 69. look at the low monday night

4:29 pm
melbourne, new record as of today. we broke the record of 1.51 in 1970 by picking up 2 and almost a quarter inch of rain in the rain gauges today. daytona beach a little less than an inch, the record way out of touch there as 2.5 inches. the temperature readings are on the way down. we hit a high of 75 and we dropped back to 74 in orlando and 73 at the cape and 72 in ocala. if you have outdoor plans tonight, clearing, mild, dry. it is still breezy but the wind will calm down as well. by 7 p.m., we're down to 70. standing by now with more information about all the mess we had this morning is candace campos. >> it looks like we had a before and after picture because you saw all the clouds and i was out there and it just turned dark on a dime and then, now, i'm looking outside the window outside of the news 6 studios and it's a beautiful afternoon. we had crews all around town today and as we zoom in to our

extra $29 million a year in operating costs. the board chairman is pushing a different plan, requiring moving high school plans to start at 7:50 and 8:15. the plan would require the district to negotiate with the other teachers's union to keep elementary and middle school students in class longer. they're going to get input from parents and students to decide what to do next. none of the changes would take effect until at least 2017. >> the countdown is on for the kickoff for the python challenge in the everglades. they hope to reduce the population of the invasive burmese pythons. the team that catches the most can win up to $5,000.
