who's been involved in more than 300 rape cases, takes the stand. she says after examining anita, it's her opinion anita was assaulted. >> at the time i did the exam, i thought of her as a victim of a sexual assault. >> and has anything changed your mind since that time? >> in my evidence, no. >> reporter: but when prosecutors questioned nurse rice... >> you're unable, from a professional standpoint, to ever say for sure whether or not the injury that you see during a sexual battery examination is either consensual or non- consensual, right? >> i cannot tell you whether consensual because i wasn't >> robert cline did not rape anita smithey. >> reporter: and to prove that point, prosecutors call this woman, anita's former friend, torina stewart, to the stand. >> did the defendant ever confide in you with regard to any sex practices that she and robert cline engaged in that stick out in your mind? >> can you tell us what that

playing. >> did she tell you that they had engaged in that date rape or role play scenario on the night that robert cline was killed? >> yes. >> torina turned out to be a snake. >> reporter: did torina betray anita? >> she did in a way that she should've never betrayed her. >> reporter: prosecutors called the case detectives to testify anita told different versions of what happened the night she shot her husband. >> and she started to tell a second story, and i noticed the inconsistencies between that first story and that second story. i knew... >> reporter: detective mattingly tells the jury anita first said robert waved a knife at her, but in a second version she didn't even mention a knife. and there were other inconsistencies. but mattingly admits at the time he never took notes. both he and detective depanicis are grilled about their lack of experience.

closed, we could hear you. >> ( squealing ) >> and i'll go on record and say i'm the one who squealed in the elevator. and part of that is just the relief that comes with it, of knowing that you work so hard for an ultimate goal and that you succeeded. >> reporter: but their feelings of relief didn't last long. just before sentencing, anita's attorney suffers a heart attack and falls into a coma. attorney whitney boan steps in to represent anita. this verdict, justice or injustice? >> injustice. she was brutally beaten, and she was forcibly raped. >> reporter: and she was already planning anita's appeal, focusing on that interrogation. >> i don't have any reason to lie to you. >> i'm very optimistic that anita smithey did not receive a fair trial in compliance with

another day in court. >> reporter: but first, anita will be sentenced for robert cline's murder. she's facing life in prison. her 13-year-old daughter is too upset to speak, but anita's son, drew, begs the judge to show mercy. >> my mom is just... she's... she's my everything, and i just want you to know how much i love her and that she's... she's not the person that people are making her out to be. >> reporter: drew tells the court he will continue in school with the hopes of becoming a doctor to make his mother proud. then, it was time for the man who gave up everything for his daughter to make one last effort to save her. >> i've always known anita as a very caring person, a person of

night, we are bracing for another round of strong storms tonight. the threat of damage, even tornadoes from the storms is very real. and that's why we start with pinpoint accurate weather center. i'm erik von ancken. troy? >> rain on the warm front is moving in ahead of the low pressure center to the gulf of mexico, and that low in the gulf is the one this we will watch for the trailing cold front, so as the warm front moves north and we will be in what is called the warm sector, which is not a good thing, it will likely lead to big storms and in fact this likely worse than what we saw on friday. we are in the trying to scare think one but we want everyone to be prepared, a greater risk of tornadoes from this. moving in our direction in the next few hours the timeline from

in the morning for the strongest storms and rotating storms with tornado and strong wind gusts greater than 60 miles an hour. the yellow, that is rain ahead of the big system, this is going to set stage for more of the storms to develop. for clermont to groveland and lake county and back on over to parts of orange county, we are seeing the leading edge of more rain as the warm front moves to the north from the south. south winds kick up, winter park to paradise heights, ocoee all those areas seeing moderate rain, about a half-inch an hour. melbourne, south patrick air force base to palm bay and florida beach in brevard county, and much more on the south that will move in, along that warm front and once the cold front moves in with the low that will are the time we watch for the risk of severe weather. from two in the morning until 8:00, that is when we will see the worst of it moving in. rain wind and the main thing but

addition to citrus packaging, fire crews worked quickly to make sure they put out the blaze before it spread over there and causeed a possible explosion. we did get video from viewers of that, at the height of the blaze, the fire started around 8:00 tonight and you can see how intense and large it was. its took crews about two hours from the fire department to put out the blaze and no injuries. and again, back out here live, you can see that this structure is total loss. the fire marsh allies here and investigating what caused the fire, and they are not sure what it was, if it was suspicious or not but we are told they would work all night to figure it out pending any bad weather which we are expecting overnight. >> erik: looks like so much

one teenager is in jail, and two more on the run after orlando police say they stole a car and then tried to run over an officer with it. news 6 explains that officer fired his gun as the car raced away and he hit one of the teens. >> reporter: what started as a traffic stop ends in gunfire. oral police ran tape around a shopping center where they tried to stop three people in a stolen white charger. as police walk to the car the drivers threw it in reverse and tried to get away. nearly hitting one officer with the car. and police say that is when officer jonathan mill in the car's path fired his weapon, kitting the driver. he tried to drive away to a nearby neighborhood on stony brook lane. you can see the track marks here in the ground and the driver slammed the car into the house, where the shutters are broken. police caught up with him who was taken to the hospital and later to the juvenile assessment center.

including aggravated assault on an officer and grand theft auto. officer mills was in the hurt but is on paid administrative leave. the florida department of law enforcement is investigating. news 6. rick rig osceola county detective looking for a man who they say sexually abused an 11-year-old girl. the young girl said he raped her several times over the past year. family members noticed a behavior change and asked her about it. he recently got out of prison. he was last seen in st. cloud. if you know where he is call crime line. another man wanted for sexually abusing a family member in osceola county, this guy they have captured. this is damien torres, who has

for years. he ran to a nearby park than is where they picked him up. a fire destroyed a car on 192 this west northbound. firefighters say they are investigating what started this fire but they say everyone inside this car, even though it looked bad did get out okay. also in brevard county, first responders raced to u.s. 1 and main street in mims after a car slammed into a building tonight, paramedics rushed one person to the hospital thorks word on that person's injuries. and you can see crews boarded up the front of the building damaged from the car. we are asking what led up to the crash and who the driver was. we will let you know as soon as we hear. tonight we are learning the no longer secret details behind the prisoner swap between the u.s. and iran. it took fourteen months of the behind the scenes negotiations between the two countries to make this happen. and u.s. officials have confirmed iran has freed five
