>> the bleeding continues. it's been the worst start to a year on record for the stock market. here's how it ended. the dow dropped 249 points, not a good day, but a lot better than the 555 we are seen it down. the nasdaq lost 5 and the s&p 500 down 21 and the dow more than 8% now in 2016. chevron fell more than 7%, the most in the dow jones industrial average. bond prices rose. a major investor expects stocks to fall further but doesn't expect a global collapse despite world stocks falling today. china and the oil crisis is the main culprits for the market mayhem. the big question that remains unanswered is where or when the stocks will finally bottom out. >> thank you.

we brought you the breaking news yesterday starting at 4:00. as you can see, the investigation continued to play out throughout the night last night inside the apartment at stone stone stonebrook apartments. how is the woman doing right now? >> i keep asking police. all they'll say is when she was taken from this apartment complex to the hospital last night in critical condition, she was unconscious and unresponsive. they also won't tell me who she is. but this report i just got from police details a horribly vicious attack yesterday. >> i mean, i never heard any dogs barking. i came back from running errands and it was chaos here. >> neighbors tell us it was one of the most awful things they'd ever seen at this apartment complex yesterday. a woman bloody, barely alive and several other people with cuts all over their bodies, bitten by a pack of dogs. >> it was people.
4:08 pm
>> yesterday, news 6 cameras were rolling as it took two people to carry heavy trash bags down the flight of stairs. five dogs in the upstairs apartment were shot to death by police in an attempt to stop the pit bull attacks. they write in their reports when they raced here yesterday several adults and children were screaming that the dogs were killing her. they found several suspects with bloody clothing and lacerations and when they went in the apartment, they saw five pit bulls attacking a person in the hallway. the person was in a sitting position, biting the victim in the arms, legs and upper body areas and one of the dogs charged an officer and he shot and killed him, too. this dog was not involved, according to police. animal control still took it away. when we asked about the dogs. the apartment complex gave us this statement. >> the dogs involved in the attack were unauthorized pets not permitted under the terms of our lease. we last inspected the unit on
4:09 pm
we're cooperating with the police and animal control in their investigation. >> i also asked police who did these dogs belong to and what led up to this attack? they said they're looking into that. i can tell you neighbors here have their own theories on this. i'm working on putting that together as we speak for when i see you again coming up at 5:00. >> erik von ancken reporting live in sanford tonight. thank you. >> also developing right now, the east coast is bracing for a blizzard later this week. >> the warnings are out. before we can even pinpoint their winter weather, meteorologist candace campos is pinpointing what looks like frosty spots in our neck of the woods. >> ladies, it was certainly a frost frosty start to the morning as we woke up in the upper 20's and below the freezing point of 32 degrees. the viewers came in and certainly sent us some really great shots. we're up in palm coast. we had a beautiful shot here.
4:10 pm
next time i have frost i need the viewers to put something like "we love news 6." something creative. this looks like something you would see further up to the north. we saw a lot of frost, especially in the palm coast area. another spot we were at yesterday in clermont, we were at the golf course out there and you can see this park here. it looks like there's tons of frost as well coating the greens. you can see it looks more like snow across the area, which is pretty interesting, especially being right here in central florida. and then one more spot that we're going to be heading to is right here in oviedo. also a really good shot of all that frost right there along the roadways. but thank you to everyone who sent us your photos. keep sending them in. we would love to show them and highlight them throughout the next few hours. >> thank you, candace. those are some good pictures. >> oh, yeah. ahead at 4:00, three otter pups

4:15 pm
>> consumer reports put 15 aa batteries through a battery of tests that simulate typical use in toys and flashlights. the question, which lasts the longest? >> overall, the lithium batteries did tops in our test and so did some of the alkalines in the test. >> dura cell did the best. consumer reports best buy for batteries are kirkland signature alkaline from costco, sold in large value packs. a pair of these batteries ends up costing only $1. when it's time to change the batteries in your devices, always use the same batteries of the same age, brand and type. and the old wives tales about keeping batteries in the fridge to prolong your life, consumer reports says don't bother. keep them in a cool, dry place and they'll likely last seven years.

4:30 pm
he was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. >> i think at the most he should have took me aside and, if he felt that they needed to cuff me and put me in the squad car until things settled. >> now, the good news is brevard county fire/rescue did manage to save his dogs from inside. they're with family right now in palm bay doing okay. we actually saw them this afternoon. but tonight, we're asking if sheriff's deputies may have used a little bit too much force in taking joiner down, right there in the driveway of his home. see what brevard county sheriff's office is telling us in the story we're putting together right now for 5:00. for now, we're live in cocoa tonight, eric sandoval, news 6. >> thank you. also developing right now, big changes in the weather. >> chief meteorologist tom sorrells is pinpointing a little bit of a warm-up, certainly compared to the past couple of days.
