that means they have to report any allegations of abuse or neglect involving their school students. i asked orange county public schools today if they did report the previous cases. they said they did and i have proof. so i asked the department of children and families why they didn't investigate. >> apopka police told news 6 they arrested 66-year-old donald sharp after a student, who is now in high school, came forward accusing him of touching her inappropriately when she was in the third grade. his arrest affidavit tells the story of how the student claims he would have her sit on his lap, telling her you look beautiful and do you like sitting on my lap? today news 6 found out at least two other students came forward with allegations against sharp around the same time, in 2009. the department of children and families tells us they got a call on their hotline in 2009. the caller told them about two students who were making allegations against sharp. so why wasn't there an

just learned that the toddler taken to arnold palmer after a near drowning has died. we told you the 3-year-old boy was pulled from this backyard pool on elderwood court. but we just found out, heartbreakingly enough, the child died at the hospital. news 6 has called the deputies to find out what's next for this case and we'll keep you posted. >> now to a life-saving challenge. the university of central florida students are trying to reach. first, they set their sights on 3-d-printed arms for children who need them. now they're hoping to print something far for complex. a human heart. i had the opportunity to see how they're getting results for our community. >> what we're doing right now is we're printing a 3-d model of the heart. >> jessica helene has been practicing with this 3-d printer at ucf. she's making generic models of a human heart and within months hopes to make custom heart replicas from actual pediatric
4:13 pm
>> basically it translates the data into a form the printer can read in order to make the correct motion so you get an accurate print. >> the custom heart model will help doctors prepare for surgery. >> it will provide for more accurate operation and faster operation, and that's going to be good for kids with complex congenital heart disease. >> orlando health heart surgeon is working with ucf on the custom 3-d printed hearts to replace this generic one size fits all model doctors use in pre-surgery meetings now. >> this is what we've had available to us now for 10 or 20 years. it's just a model of the heart. >> the general model has great detail but it isn't customized to show a specific patient's problem. >> big change in 3-d printing is this thing i'm holding in my hand in the future will be a definite model of that patient's heart and when i take it apart,
4:14 pm
example, okay, you see this is an abnormal hole between two chambers of your heart. >> ucf and orlando health are among the first in the country to partner on this cutting-edge technology. >> but as impressive as it is, the doctor is not surprised. >> we did foresee it and now it's happening. that's what it takes. it takes innovative thought and an awareness of the developing technology to put it together and make it work. >> so will we one day be able to print a working 3-d heart model to place inside a human body? >> i don't put it past us to reach that point, even in my lifetime. >> ucf doctor is already thinking about printing working heart in animals first. >> you started research on that? >> that's correct. we already started it and we're already working on that. >> julie broughton, news 6. >> ucf hopes to print 3-d heart models for local patients within
4:15 pm
the ucf researcher we talked to says we're 15 to 20 years to print an actual simulated heart to put in a human body, if that's even possible. and those students working out there are undergraduate students, not graduate students. >> and that's just fascinating. imagine one day getting to print organs and not having to wait for a donor. and i read having the model is helpful for patients because it helps the doctors explain what's going on. >> very cool. >> new at 4:00, a dramatic scene this morning at the los angeles zoo when a worker fell into the gorilla exhibit. take a look at this. l.a. city fire crews had to pull him out of the exhibit after he lost his balance while doing some landscape work and tumbled down near the mote. he is being treated for a broken leg in the 20-foot fall. the gorillas were still in their enclosures where they sleep since it happened first thing in the morning.
4:16 pm
>> if you're going to fall into an enclosure, though, i would pick a gorilla over a bear or a tiger. >> i don't know about that, man. >> gorillas are so strong. i once looked a monkey in the eye it tried to attack me. >> when you look them in the eye and they react to you, that's them about to rip your face off. they're getting big. enough of tom's jungle world here. let's talk about this morning. woke up to 42 degrees. never thought i'd be so excited for 42 degrees. it felt like a tropical heat wave compared to where we've been the last few days. this morning, in gainesville, you woke up to 34. 36 in ocala. 41 did it in the villages for the overnight low. 40 in daytona beach and 42 out at the cape. how did we do today? well, pretty well, actually. bounced all the way back to 70 in sanford, 69 in leesburg and 72 in ocala. right now, temperatures across
4:17 pm
up north are going to have a tough run of it in the next 24 hours. you can see the 36-degree reading in nashville and 63 in jacksonville and right now in the city beautiful, we are at 70. it's 68 out at new smyrna beach and 70 in ocala. so we're all doing pretty well. the wind direction from the southeast at 9 miles per hour in orlando, a 12-mile-an-hour wind in sanford, 6 at the cape and only a 3-mile-an-hour wind right now in melbourne. we're going to start out with the satellite and radar shot here together. you see the cloud cover and go looking for some moisture. it's all back out west. we have a stationary front in here. what's that? that's the leading edge of the mess that's going to rock the atlantic coast all the way up to new york city during the next 24 to 36 hours. not a huge deal for us really. but a huge winter storm from the mid-atlantic to the northeast. for us, tomorrow morning, 8 a.m., we're doing fine. meteorologist troy bridges will be here tracking a very mild overnight. right now, take a look, watch my
4:18 pm
here we go. by about noon tomorrow, the frontal boundary, the big cold front is here, bringing in scattered showers. nothing compared to what we went through on friday and sunday. but still a chance of decent rain and rumbles of thunder, too. there's not enough support for this to really explode like they did on friday and sunday. we're looking at wind speeds of 30, 35 miles per hour as it pushes on through. by this time tomorrow afternoon, all of the activity will be down here in southern brevard county. so my pivotal window of opportunity is between about 11 a.m. and 2:30 in the afternoon for the big rain in central florida. by, say, midnight tomorrow night into saturday, we're drying out. the rain is gone. saturday looks to be a pretty decent day except -- i say decent -- except for the wind. it's going to be blowing in here from the north-northwest gusting to 30 miles per hour as the wind rockets in here, too, it will be chilly. a daytime high only in the 50's.
4:19 pm
lows for saturday and sunday. >> temperature reading tonight is it going to be fine, really warm, one of the mildest nights we've had in a long, long time. the overnight low in orlando will be 57 with a partly cloudy sky. here is tomorrow. first thing in the morning, it's going to be cloudy. by noon, the storms are approaching. the temperature surges to 70, maybe 73. the rain is ending by 4:00 in the afternoon. should be gone, exiting to the open waters of the atlantic. so the high tomorrow, 73 to 75, depending on how much of a whooshing effect we can get on the front side of the cold front. the rain ends by about 4:00. come saturday, the daytime high is 57 degrees. it's windy all day long. look at that overnight low. back to 38 in orlando, which means freeze warnings to the north. sunday's daytime high, 58. monday, we're doing better, back to 68. >> i'm glad it's not going to be like last weekend. >> we'll get some rain.

is so florida. >> we're talking about a few guests this evening. if you own a pool in florida, i just want to throw this out there. always make sure you look before you take a dip. a florida keys man looked fortunately, and he found this, an 8 foot long crocodile. maybe the water was heated, maybe the ocean was chilly. either way he looks pretty relaxed in there. the sheriff's office near the keys posted this pic this morning. they said wildlife officers came and returned him to the sea water. >> we've had many of these stories, florida wildlife taking over people's properties, especially here in central florida. i'll run through two of my favorites here. let's start with the daytona beach bear. he ditched a tree for a hammock. i don't blame and neither did the internet. the picture of the furry guy hanging out went viral.
4:24 pm
>> and then zeke the monkey came swinging in in sanford, literally swung from a neighborhood street sign. you see him doing that? he then tore up some mail, got a little exhausted and got a drink of water and eventually he went home and i'm not even going to touch on the king cobra. it's so florida. >> serious ad dollars have come from those animals. >> especially the bear in the hammock. >> is that your favorite? >> the bear is my favorite, too. >> how did he figure out a hammock? that's pretty smart. >> he's been watching the people who live there. >> that's for sure. >> thank you, matt. ahead at 4:30, a taxi ride takes a terrible turn, erupting in flames, putting two people in serious danger. what a witness says happened next. >> then would you take advice from a robot? you might have to soon.
