. >>. >> breaking news in orange county after a man was shot. detectives want to know why he was targeted. >> a crash involving a florida highway patrol trooper. a driver arrested for dui after investigators say he slammed into the trooper's car. we are live at the scene. >> we have a weather alert for central florida. strong storms and heavy rain are heading our way. we are pinpointing when storms will arrive to help you plan your day and also your weekend. >> good morning, central florida. it is 5:30. thank you for joining us. i'm bridgett ellison. >> i'm david hall. we begin with a weather alert so you can see the storms behind me moving into the panhandle. >> let's get over to troy bridges in the pinpoint accurate forecast center. how long do we have before it slams us? >> around 10:00, we'll see the western zones impacted with some heavy rain and stronger wind gusts.

moving in. this is well ahead of the frontal system we'll be pinpointing through the day. there's the radar as we zoom in, most of this is moderate rain. light rain. moving up to the north and to the north and east into bay lake within 26 minutes. here is what we are watching closely from the gulf of mexico up from the panhandle. tornado warnings in effect in the panama city area, to the east of panama city. that is some storms that are indicating some rotation in the upper levels of the atmosphere. it is doppler indicated. our main threat today from 10:00 this morning to 4:00 this afternoon will be strong wind and rain. wind up to 50 miles an hour or greater. we can't rule out rotating storms. the threat is very, very low. pinpointing storms through the day. they are quick movers. by 5:00, most of us are dry. 73 at 4:00, with a 90% coverage of storms, mainly at noon. then the storms push to the east. we'll talk about the timing and

let's check on the roads right now with amy right now in the napeleton traffic center. good morning, amy. >> good morning to you. morning. we are doing ok on the roads. wanted to show you this nice early. this is on i-95, northbound and southbound. this is south of wickham road doing just fine there. throughout the area, minimal issues, as you can see. traveling 75 between ocala and the villages, just about 68 miles an hour as an example. similarly it looks like i-4 this morning around orlando, kissimmee, 67 miles an hour. so far so good. that's your check on traffic. back to you. >> breaking news overnight coming out of orange county. a gunman on the run after a shooting at the campus. >> it happened at an apartment complex that has had trouble in the past. we are talking about the marquee

mark, any word on how the victim is doing in this? >> reporter: i spoke with a deputy about 45 minutes ago. he tells me the victim's injuries are non-life threatening. you mentioned the troubles this complex has had in the past. that led to an increase in security. with the shooting that happened last night, some may be questioning just how well that is working. >> this was the scene at the marquee apartments apartments. a man was rushed to the hospital after deputies say he was shot by another man late last night. this violent crime is the latest for an apartment complex that has seen its share of trouble. management implemented a name change after a string of armed robberies in 2014. other changes were put in place including security cameras and exterior gates and a company hired to patrol. there are measures that seem to

students fell victim after they were robbed at gun point by four men. now as deputies investigate another violent crime, more changes could be in store for the students that live here. this morning, we'll be working to get answers from management and asking them if they will be taking anywhere action in light last night. case. deputies say they are still searchinging for a gunman but they only have a vague description of him at this time. >> we are also following breaking news from overnight as well, involving a highway patrol trooper. a driver has been arrested and they are face charges after detectives say he slammed into a trooper's car while driving drunk. you can see the scene behind me. this happened around 2:30 on sand lake west of i-4. that's where we find johnny fernandez. situation. what do you know at this point about any injuries? >> reporter: well, david, the

trooper and the driver that hit the trooper, they are all ok. i want you to look at video from the scene. since the scene cleared here about an hour and a half ago. troopers tell me a patrol officer was driving his car heading northbound here on sand lake coming out of i-4 westbound when he was hit by a white corolla. witnesses say the driver of the white car ran a red light here on sand lake road in front of the whole foods and then hit the right side of the trooper's car. the driver has been arrested this morning for dui. coming back live. troopers tell me they are going to be releasing more information about the driver. the trooper involved. he is ok. once i get new updates, i'll pass the information along to you guys on air and online, clickorlando.com, powered by news 6. lanes of i-95 are reopen

bad crash. it happened last night when a dump truck driver slammed into a side. the driver emptied a load and accidentally left the truck bed up. that's when the driver crashed into that overpass for i-4. she was taken to the hospital in serious condition. it is not the first time something like this has happened. remember this, a semi truck hit the same spot, catching fire and causing damage to the bridge. we are waiting to learn what led to another crash, this one deadly. this happened late last night near orange blossom trail. the motorcyclist died at the scene. right now, the victim's name isn't being released. it is unclear if anyone else was involved. florida highway patrol is expected to release more information later this morning. >> jury deliberations could start in the trial of a pedi cab driver. all this comes after the man at the center of this case took the stand and told his side of the story.

>> i have your d.n.a. and i'm a cop. she is sexually assaulted me. >> george bernard said he did not rape the victim and the woman was the one pressuring him. bernard said the two had sex but it was consensual. it happened after a race in 2014. the victim told the jury earlier in the week that bernard is the one who threatened her. if convicted, bernard could prison. >> a woman convicted of hitting a boy with her s.u.v. and driving off will learn how much time she'll spend behind bars. we are talking about michelle simkins. she hit thomas gregory in 2014 while he was outside playing basketball outside a home. the crash left the boy with two broken legs. simkins is facing 15 years in

>> there are lingering questions following the drowning of a 3-year-old boy. the toddler was found unresponsive in this backyard pool along elderwood court. sky 6 flew over that scene. the boy was rushed to arnold palmer hospital where he died a few hours later. it is unclear how the little boy ended up in the water and who was responsible for watching him at the time. >> in brevard county, concerned residents in one community are sounding off all over coyote traps. for weeks, people say they have been told to be on alert after spod in an indian harbor beach. the reason is because the fish and wildlife commission has not deemed the animals a nuisance f. a coyote is caught and moved. it can be a violation. people say something needs to be done. >> hopefully it won't take a tragedy for it to be elevated to the nuisance criteria.

he is consulting with lawyers to figure out how to best hand this will coyote problem. >> it is time to head outside. it is a weather alert day. let's check in with troy bridges. >> already seeing rain ahead of the main system that pubs in around 10:00 this morning. you can see the rain moving closer to bay lake, especially into the next 18 minutes. you can expect light to moderate rain. this isn't strong but some showers to lead to wet roads in lake county. here is the line developing in the gulf of mexico. there is good news, most of the strong energy is going to be tracking off to the north into south georgia. they have had tornado warnings already this morning in the panhandle. here's what we can expect, 10:00 this morning, western zones. marion county, we do expect these storms to move a little faster than what this model data is showing. you see this line here. i expect by noon that line to be right along i-4. mainly in the lake county. picking up some speed and the chance for stronger wind gusts. we can't rule out a rotating

that is a very low threat. mainly it will be heavy rain and wind on your lunch hour, heading out on i-4. by 4:00 this afternoon, most of it pushes out. lingering showers and storms in brevard county near the space coast. it looks better for the afternoon drive. we'll see lingering showers into tonight. for the most part just some showers. cold air moves in from the weekend. first, let's check on the roads with amy who is in the napeleton traffic center. >> good morning to you. happy friday at home as well. keeping you updated on your drive times. not going to be an issue. this is an example, i-95 north and southbound directions. really looking good. that goes for the stretch of i-95 as well as any of your majors. speaking of which, let's take you outside. over by saxson boulevard. eastbound, westbound travel. not an issue right now. a lot of open pavement. that's your check on traffic for now. back over to you. >> 20 minutes before 6:00 already.

store shelves in many cities are bare as people stock up on milk, bread, water and other essentials. thousands of flights have been cancelled with airlines across the nation feeling the exact. in the nation capital all government offices are shutting down at noon so workers can get home before the worst part of the storm hits. d.c. mass transit system will shut down later this afternoon. >> turning to orange county where precautions are taken at florida hospital. right now, a deep clean is under way as the germ that causes the illness was found in the water system. legionnaire is a type of pneumonia. the germ that causes it is in water. it can be dangerous for patients with weak immune systems. staff members taking extra steps to prevent vulnerable people. it can cause high fevers, chills and a cough.

you have to see this one. police in minnesota stop a distracted driver who had a novel excuse. the man told them he couldn't focus on the road because the book he was reading was too good to put down. >> reading in the snow. that's right. that driver was reading the novel while he was driving down that snowy highway. officers got suspicious after that guy was spotted going 15 miles below the speed limit and swerving all over the place. that guy was given a ticket. >> a birthday times three. a family has three generations of women all born on the exact same day. >> this newborn baby girl shares her special day with mom and grandmother. the family says they didn't plan this. experts say while it is rare it is not as uncommon as you might think, still the odds of three

birthday are about 130,000 to one. i have met families like that. >> megamillions. >> they probably will win with those odds. we are pinpointing storms. we talked about it all week. we knew we would have storms. now they are ramping up a little bit. looking stronger than they did earlier in the week. we want you to be prepared. the worse of the storms on top of us and on top of i-4 around noon today. not good timing for folks heading out and about, running errands. the timeline begins at 10:00 and lasts through 4:00. again, the main threat for the heaviest rain, the strongest wind around noon, right there in a large area along i-4. we'll watch it closely. rain and wind up to 50 miles an hour. one or two rotating storms possible but the tornado threat is low. we'll watch it closely. we are pinpointing some rain where you see the yellow. moving into lake and sumter county.

bay lake within five minutes. minutes. again, some light to moderate rain. these are not stormy conditions but look to the west and northwest. this is the line developing. there were tornado warnings in panama city early this morning if you were tuned in at 4:56 with us. that line will be racing in our direction. most of the energy, most of that severe threat is moving north of us. that's the good news. we'll watch it closely. 56 in orlando. it is 59 in ocala. 59 at palm coast. 67 in brevard county. jackets in order in many spots except brevard county. here's a look at your pinpoint accurate forecast. >> notice the sky, a lot of cloud cover. it will clear out later this afternoon. notice rain chances really the highest as i said at noon at 90%. we are at 70 at that point. some winds strong with wind

rain chances really push to brevard and volusia county, we'll begin to dry out. here it is, painting the picture, the clouds and rain forecast, just like it did last weekend. here's 11:00 this morning, moving into western zones, marion county. there's 1:00 this afternoon. i expect the storms to pick up faster than some of this model data. you can see a line developing west of i-4. i think it will be on top of i-4 at noon and 1:00. then quickly by 4:00 moving out to sea. lingering showers possible this afternoon and evening where you see the green. that's just light rain. nothing major to deal with as we head into your evening plans. just be ready for quick moving showers tonight. where you live by 3:00, most of the storms pushing to our eastern zones over into brevard and volusia county. we are up to 73 in leesburg. 74 in daytona beach. there's the weekend in red. a chilly day on saturday. colder air building in behind this front. a high of 56 tomorrow after
