causing cars to swerve and crash. troopers believe he started going west near dallas boulevard. a trooper finally caught up to him at mile marker 16 right before the entrance to the 417. shaun chaiyabhat is live at fhp head quarters with more on who this driver is (i just spoke with that driver's son tonight. he tells me that his 78-year-old father is home and he is resting. but he is still very much confused. he has no idea how he got on to the high way the wrong way. >> for eight miles during rush hour. a a white car drove the wrong way for eight miles. it was a scary scene for oncoming drivers that swerved to avoid the pick up driving in the fast lane. they think the or deal began somewhere near dallas boulevard, when frantic calls to 911

it's possible the 78-year-old driver drove up this exit starting his path into traffic. and within seconds, began the first of two crashes. troopers say the first crash happened right near dallas boulevard where two cars swerved out of the way. and the second, three miles later at mile marker 21, where a truck swerved and hit the wall. we drove the same eight mile section of the beach line and even troopers say it's amazing nobody was injured. a trooper stationed at the express way authorities saw the truck coming head on and pulled over the confused driver. after all of this, they have recommended his license be reviewed. troopers also say that the family told them that they agree their father probably should not be driving any longer. matt?

this. shaun chaiyabhat thank you. we have breaking news at west. the leader of an armed group that occupied a wildlife refuge has been arrested. they arrested ammon bundy during a traffic stop. shots were fired during that arrest and one person killed. that person's id has not been released yet. the group began occupying the refuge weeks ago to protest land use policies. >> attack while trying to get on a links bus. he's in the hospital with a badly bruised face and bleeding in the brain. his attacker is in jail. sashell saunders talked to the family about what happened and how he's doing. >> reporter: that veteran was taken right here out of his own drive way. tonight his daughter says he's still in the hospital and preparing for surgery in the morning. >> at first i was like what happened? >> reporter: the wild ride

driver was picking up a patient on ronny street monday morning. >> i said i'll be right back, i'm going to the store. the bus should be back nipple. >> reporter: he was strapping in the 80-year-old wheelchair bound father. when out of nowhere, this man 37-year-old jumped inside the bus, took the wheel and floored it. >> the man jumped on the bus and said he was taking the bus. put it in drive and took off and my dad hit like on the middle of the bus face first. and then he flew out of the wheelchair. >> reporter: they were thrown dangerously around. leaving doctor and air force veteran like this. >> he has a small bleed in his brain. he also has a large hematoma on the front of his head. he is all black and blue. swollen.
