>> we will never forget them nor the last time we saw them. >> m of us remember where we were when we heard the news about the loss of shuttle challenger 30 years ago today. what nasa is doing this morning to honor the astronauts who lost their lives in the tragedy. >> once again, we are pinpointing early morning rain for you. we start in the weather center. good morning, central florida. i'm david hall. >> i'm bridgett ellison alongside troy bridges tracking all this rain for us and we picked up a lot of it. >> people are sick of this. we want to get this out of here. by tomorrow, we will. let me show you records from yesterday. yesterday record rainfall total got up near two inches. the old record for orlando is just more than an inch. we almost made it to two inches setting a new record. the old sun set in 1903.

yesterday all day. most of the rain came in the morning hours before 8:30 in the morning. look, daytona beach more than two inches of rain. the old record set in 1937. today we'll add on top of that. that's why there is the risk for flooding. notice not a lot of heavy rain right now, just some drizzle across central florida. more rounds moving in from the gulf of mexico mexico. the heaviest will remain to the south. melbourne, palm bay. beginning to dry out. but floridana beach is going to see a little bit more of the rain. i'm trying to talk fast. here's the rain coverage at 70%. let's check on the roads in the napeleton traffic center. nicely. scheduled construction you'll going on. no accidents for the time being. we'll try to keep it this way

these look fantastic. drive times not an issue. eastbound ride, turnpike to 408, only five minutes. that is your check on traffic. i'll send it back to you at the desk. >> now to the breaking news, our crews are the only ones there as ze 90da gonzalez walks out of jail. >> the woman who once accused casey anthony of defamation is now accused of stealing hundreds of dollars from a cancer patient. kirsten is live where gonzalez bonded out a few hours ago. >> we were the only ones when she walked out of the jail. we asked her about those charges. police say ze 90da gonzalez and a friend stole a cancer patient credit card and went on a shopping spree around the holidays. she didn't have a lot to say to us.

ones following zenaida gonzalez this morning. when we started asking questions about her arrest, she said nothing. investigators say they recognized her name. >> it wasn't until after detectives began investigating they discovered that the suspect in our case was connected to the casey anthony case. >> genz less sued casey anthony but last september that suit was thrown out. detectives say gonzalez and her boyfriend are charged with stealing a credit card from a man who is fighting cancer while he was staying at the star motel. >> gonzalez and her boyfriend were using that credit card while this individual was in the hospital. >> investigators say the two were staying and working at the motel, giving them access to the man's hotel. it wasn't until the man got a

suspicious transactions, they were caught spending $850 at a nearby wal-mart, home depot, even a seven-11. >> deputies say surveillance video shows the couple using the stolen card at one of the stores. we just checked this morning and gonzalez boyfriend is still here at the orange county jail. he is sitting on a $1,500 bond. >> also breaking overnight. six people recovering after a carbon monoxide scare. one of those people passed out because of this potentially deadly gas. it happened in the last couple of hours at the walden ponds condos. this is not far from the i-4. what are firefighters saying about all this? >> orlando fire tell me that what caused this whole mess to happen was a generator found inside one of these apartments that was being used for

fire crews cleared the scene within the last five minutes. i want to show you what it looked like when they were here. orlando fire rescue tell us they got a call earlier this morning from dr. phillips hospital after a family of four went there feeling ill. they were treated for carbon monoxide poisoning. when firefighters got here, they discovered the generator and two other people were transported from the complex to the hospital with similar symptoms. at this point, police -- police say everyone is expected to be ok. we are coming back live. we know over a dozen people were evacuated from their apartments. while orlando fire crew tell me no one is allowed back until they are given the clear. they are waiting for the air to be ventilated. once we get new information, we'll pass the information along to you on air and online at clickorlando.com. scary situation for those victims. thank you. >> it is 5:05.

anniversary for nasa and our country. it was 30 years ago the space shuttle challenger exploded during lift off from the cape killing all seven astronauts on board and changing the space program forever. this morning, nasa will pause to remember the lives lost. mark lehman is live at the space center. mark, lots of special guests are expected to be there. >> family members from the challenger crew are expected to be in attendance as well as veteran astronauts this morning. normally the ceremony is held outside but here it is inside at the forever remember memorial because of rain moving through the area. today the nation looks back at a tragic day in the space program. >> liftoff of the 25th space shuttle mission. >> a launch filled with so much hope as the space shuttle challenger left the launch pad, it carried seven crew members on

mcculliffe. >> as of right now, while on board the shuttle, when i return and hopefully give the students a picture of what an ordinary person's perspective is like when they are in space. >> the excitement quickly turned to tragedy. 73 seconds after liftoff, an image those witnessed will never forget. >> looking very carefully at the situation. obviously, a major malfunction. investigators would later conclude it was an malfunction of the o-rings. a cold day and cold temperatures led many to believe the cold weather played a role in the disaster. 30 years later, the words of the president comforting. >> the challenger crew was pulling us into the future and we'll continue to follow them. >> now, weather permitting, nasa

33-year-old former deputy jesse terrell is violated with violating price's rights. the sheriff is taking his message about what happened to face book, posting this message last night. >> as soon as i saw this video, all five individuals were suspended without pay. i personally felt their actions were egregious enough they should never receive another dime from taxpayers. >> four deputies all pled guilty in court and reside or were fired. terrell faces 10 years in prison if convicted. of course, we'll let you know what happens. >> after three years, a popular chain restaurant is returning to the sunshine state, three years after closing of shop in florida, benigan's is returning. a ribbon cutting ceremony is being held at the new location this morning. the new location will include an enclosed patio with a 70 inch

screens at the bar. >> i could go for a burger and fries after the show. >> they have the deep fried sandwich, the monte christo. it could have gone away because they made changes but that's what i used to get. not all that good for you. here's the rain through the day today as we expect more totals adding up leading to a flooding threat. more than an inch in spots near cape canaveral. more than two inches on top of the record rain we saw yesterday. right now, just some drizzle on our major roadways through downtown orlando. heavy rain in southern brevard. to our south, that area of low pressure low pressure bringing in more moisture and then more coming in from the gulf. on in waves we'll see rain continuing today. the coverage at 70%. you can see most of the rain in southern brevard county has pushed out.

>> thank you for joining us. we are following two big stories overnight. our crews caught this woman, zenaida gonzalez walking out of jail after posting bond. gonzalez made headlines when she accused casey anthony of defamation. police say she and her boyfriend stole hundreds of dollars from cancer patient. >> six people rushed to the hospital after a carbon monoxide scare. this is at the walden pond apartments. this complex was evacuated. right now, workers are airing out the building. johnny is live at the scene getting more information. he'll have a live update coming up shortly. >> now to election 2016. with the debate hours away, donald trump is still refusing

last night in an appearance on fox news. >> will you just consider -- i want you to consider, think about it -- >> bill, this is tougher being with you because frankly, you are smarter, this is tougher than doing the debate with megyn kelly, believe me. >> while his republican counter parts are on the debate stage, trump says he will be on the campus of drake university holding a fund-raiser for veterans. his chief rival ted cruz challenged him to a one on one debate. iowans will cast their caucus votes on monday. >> we know an ef-1 tornado with winds between 90 and 100 miles an hour touched down three times yesterday. check out the damage on your screen. you can see the tornado blew cars over, throwing one car on top of another one if the parking lot of broward college north campus. the winds were so strong they flipped a tractor-trailer on its side. you just saw that.

students say the twister was still very scary. >> it is like nothing i have seen in my life before. it was terrifying. >> another tornado was report 30 seen in west broward county. fortunately, no one was hurt there either. >> this morning, the american civil liberties union is calling for an investigation of law enforcement after they say black drivers are nearly twice as likely to get tickets for seat belt violations. the it states officers issued 575 seat belt citations to black drivers and 549 to white drivers. however black residents only make up 23% of the population in tampa, meaning the disparity looks more like this. the report also found the problem was state-wide.

have the chance for the strongest storms. there will be the risk for tornadoes again well to our south. here's the front. more moisture in the gulf of mexico. that will be building in tons of moisture. rain leading to flooding will be our greatest concern as we head into the next few hours and likely into the afternoon today. tomorrow looks better. you are not seeing a lot of rain but there is some light drizzle on some of our major royce including the 408 and i-4. the heaviest to the south. more moisture working in from the panhandle. southern sections of brevard county for floridana beach, palm bay and mico seeing rain. we'll see a little bit more of that as we head into the afternoon today building in. look at the temperatures, we are at 62 in orlando right now.

61 in ocala. 65 in melbourne. as we take you through the day, you can see the clouds, plenty of those in place. 71 at noon. rain chances at 40% through lunchtime. going to 70% through the afternoon. we'll see a couple of waves of rain again today, much like yesterday. a good chance through the latter part of the day. we are at 73 at 4:00. a 40% coverage of rain tonight for your evening plans. look at that with the clouds and rain forecast, more of this coming in in waves. another round by 1:00 this afternoon, right along i-4. lunchtime looking wet, the afternoon drive, the bus stop looking wet as well. late tonight into early tomorrow, most of this out of here and cooler drier air works in. today 72 in sanford. 70 in daytona beach. look at tomorrow, no rain
