of wet weather. it is 5:00 a.m. i'm david hall. >> i'm bridgett ellison. thank you for waking up with all of us. troy and amy are here. good morning. >> good morning. in the past minutes, i have seen things you've for right now. we are looking very nice. >> that won't last. we'll have a lot of wet roads to deal with this afternoon. that's the real concern as we drive home later today, thunderstorms t. main threat will be heavy rain adding up. go ahead and have that rain gear handy. make sure the kids are ready for the bus stop later today, not so much into the morning hours. that will be our major severe threat today heavy rain that could lead to flooding. we'll see a chance for wind gusts greater than 50 miles an hour. that threat is moderate rather than high. here's the rain we are seeing on the radar, most is still to our north and west. most moving north of us. we have to wait for the front to

it will be 2:00, 3:00, 4:00 in the afternoon before we see more heavy rain on top of us. cloudy skies all day. 30% coverage at noon. then getting up to 80 at 4:00 with an 80% coverage of afternoon showers and storms. have the rain gear including the umbrella ready for later today. we'll talk about the risk of severe weather. the lingering rain and how much cooler it will be behind this front. first, let's check on the roads with amy in the napleton traffic center. >> thank you very much. at least for the early ride, roads are nice and dry. seeing little issues for the timing. right now, things looking nice without big issues. your travel speeds, excellent, pick your roadway, it is not going to be an issue. drive times i-4, osceola parkway to colonial drive, seven minutes. 15 minutes to westbound lake

that's your check on traffic. david and bridgett, back to you. scene in marion county. a deputy injured in a shootout with an armed man. >> both men were shot and they are in the hospital as we speak. the whole thing broke out at the marathon gas station south of 40. what do you know about the condition of these men? >> we know the deputy is recovering from gunshot wound to the leg. the man who shot at officers is in critical right now. the fdle has taken over this investigation. they are not telling us who this man is at this point. still a lot to learn this morning. we are out at the gas station where this happened. in the last 30 minutes, they have cleared the scene. we did walk in there and that

the investigation. we know the injured deputy was shot in the leg. this whole thing played out when the man drove up with two guns and pointed one at his head. investigators and witnesses tell us deputies tried to talk to the man, tried to talk him down, asking him to put the weapon down for some time. at some point, the man started shooting his second gun at deputies who then fired back. we talked to the man who lid a few doors down, he said the sharks could have hit his house. >> we are sitting on the porch smoking a cigarette. we heard pow pow pow. we heard bullets come into our yard. >> after the exchange, both the man and sergeant were rushed to the hospital. there was an extensive crime scene. we saw bullet casings on the road. cherry and 20th were closed off. they are back open this morning.

conditions of the deputy and the man. still a lot of unanswered questions for investigators this morning. we'll continue to ask them those questions. we'll have another update in 30 minutes. >> developing this morning, fears over the zika virus. governor scott declaring an emergency for four counties as we learn of more zika cases in the state. mark lehman is following the latest developments. florida is not alone. >> reporter: there are just under 50 cases in the united states but as you can see here the number of zika cases is growing, that includes nine confirmed cases in florida. they are in four counties. we are talking about miami-dade, lee, hillsboro and santa rosa county. the governor has declared all four under a health emergency.

and the caribbean, zika has spread north. the illness through four counties has prompt prompted an emergency warning. it may be sexually transmitted. health officialsle says that brings a new concern. >> that could bring a different zika problem and that will be studied further. >> the bottom line for the public in the continental u.s. remains the same, if you are pregnant and you are thinking of traveling to a place with zika spreading, don't. >> concerns causing the red cross to issue a policy change. anyone who traveled to zika countries should delay blood donations for 28 days. for those who donated blood and then developed symptoms should

blood from entering the blood supply. >> they say it has prompted a similar policy for their blood supply. while workers are working on a vaccine, they are asking the public to do their part to further prevent the virus from spreading. >> our coverage of the zika story continues. get up to that minute notices about warnings and information on how to keep mosquitos from breeding around your house. camera. you can' the scene behind me. it is after two women suspected a security guard. those women are still on the run. watch this attack at metro west boulevard. police in orlando say the workers saw the women shoving merchandise into their purses. when security tried to stop them from leaving the store, things turned violent.

folding knife and jabbed at one of the guards there. witnesses say the women disappeared into an apartment complex across the street. police are worried they might strike again. here's one more look at these suspects. call police. >> a crime alert for drivers after skimmers found at several gas stations in osceola county, deputies say they found three all at seven-eleven stores, two at 192. to protect your wallet, deposition say make sure you cover the number pad as you pay at the pump. pull on the card reader, if there is a skimmer there, it will detach easily. charges. >> a plan to fight homelessness in daytona beach. city commissioners now say they are willing to consider $400,000 a year to pay for operating

it comes after dozens of people had to be moved to a temporary shelter after they camped out for weeks. commissioners are expected to talk about contributing money for the shelter at their meeting today. we'll keep you update. >> a law allowing owner to carry guns on campuses is one step closer to reality. the florida house passed two bills to allow open carry on campuses. one bill would allow lawmakers to carry onto the floor during meeting. the judiciary committee says they don't plan to put that on the agenda. >> a landing gear malfunction yesterday. this is video of it happening. the plane bounced on its belly before sliding to a stop. fire rescue rushed in. pilot and the passengeror were not hurt. so far no word on what may have caused the landing gear to fail.

try to get results when it comes to serious issues facing children. leaders of several children advocacy groups to discuss child abuse, bullying and sex trafficking. today's meeting will focus on current legislation in tallahassee that affects children state-wide. the meeting starts at 6:45 located in orlando. >> we are starting off nice this morning, we are in for changes later. let's check in with troy. >> it will take awhile before the heavy rain moves in. not great timing for the afternoon drive. the good news is this morning not dealing with a bunch of rain. here's why. here's the front. ahead of the front, a good bit of rain. it is all moving north. we have to wait for the actual front to push to that south before this rain is is on top of us. it looks like that will be just after the noon hour. there is the risk for stronger storms with strong wind gusts.

>> notice the sky, a lot of cloud cover today. we'll see lightning possible this afternoon. rain is the main concern concern. 78 at noon, even though we'll have the rain, 80 at 4:00. the heaviest of the rain waits until later in the day. the coverage of rain through noon, 340%, going up to 80% by the afternoon at 4:00 it will continue tonight through late tonight. here are the waves of rain coming in. there's 24k this afternoon, still the heaviest of the stuff to the north and west, moving along i-4. then on top of i-4, continuing through 45k, 6:00, 7:00. we'll see a couple of waves of heavy rain, even when you are watching tom sorrells tonight at 11:00, he'll pinpoint more rain. then it pushes out by the time i'm back out here at 4:56. spots. 79 in leesburg.
