>> i'm lisa bell. >> i'm julie broughton. >> and top designers give footballs a flair. see some of the best in 25 minutes. >> but first, breaking right now, an urgent alert from the florida health department. just moments ago they confirmed a new case of the zika virus in osceola county. and another case of the mosquito-borne illness also reported in nearby st. johns county. the total now, 14 cases all within these counties, miami-dade with the most at five confirmed cases. hillsborough has three. now, it's important to note the health department says none of the cases have been locally acquired. that means they're travel-related. also none of the cases involve pregnant women. the new development comes on the heels of senator bill nelson speaking about the problem at orlando international airport today. nelson reiterated the push for the president to appoint someone to deal with this growing problem.

newscast. for more coverage about the zika virus such as symptoms, and travel instructions, head to news 6. >> in just hours, temperatures will start to tumble into the low 50's tonight. >> chief meteorologist tom sorrells is pinpointing what to weekend. >> for most of us, we won't be as cold as we were this morning. it's going to be so close, i'm not sure you'll be able to tell a difference. let's get to it right now. let's start out with radar that's clear tonight. where do we stand? temperatures have rebounded nicely. down to overnight lows of 46, some 45 degrees right now. we've rebounded to 61 in ocala and 60 in the villages and 60 in orlando and only in the 50's from palm coast to daytona beach down to new smyrna beach. how big of a difference are we talk from yesterday? check this out. we're 22 degrees colder right now in sanford than we were yesterday, 18 degrees colder in orlando.

and that is reflected in your drive times. i-4 westbound from lake mary boulevard to colonial, that takes 23 minutes. >> right now, investigators in new york are trying to figure out why this huge crane collapsed in lower manhattan this morning. one person is dead, several others are hurt. matt austin is here with the heart-pounding video just in from an eyewitness, matt. >> it's hard to capture the scale of this thing. to give you an idea, the crane is taller than two city blocks. during the peak morning rush hour it slapped down on a busy street in the big apple. you can see when the thing came bearabling down, the impact so strong people described it as a bomb. they were securing the crane from the winter weather when it collapsed. now all 409 cranes operating in

utility crews are going building by building to look for any gas leaks that may be popping up. coming up at 5:00, we're digging into what investigators are saying about the crane's most recent inspection, again on news 6 at 5:00. >> right now, a bottleneck at the university of central florida as students and staff scramble to see if they were targeted by hackers. >> news 6 first told you about the hacking last night. 60,000 names and social security numbers have been compromised at the school. >> now students say it is next to impossible to find out if they were victims on the hotline the school set up. news 6 reporter eric sandoval is getting answers from ucf leaders about this. what did you find out? >> well, you know, i've been talking to current and former -- current and former students. they tell me they've used this hotline ucf set up and it's taken them longer than an hour to get somebody on the other end. once they do get somebody, many have complained about rude customer service. we took their concerns to university leaders today.

topic around campus is today. they will tell you it's the huge data breach revealed yesterday here at the university of central florida. 63,000 names and social security numbers were compromised. and news 6 found out the university leaders waited a month to tell anybody about it. now students who were trying to access the university's call center say they're hitting roadblocks. some tell us the wait times are an hour or longer. some are getting rude customer service on the other end with some hang-ups. and many are complaining the problems are not getting resolved. >> the no. 1 thing we're hearing is the wait times have been too long. that's our priority. we're working to get the wait times reduced. we want people to get through the call center quickly. >> he understands the frustration. news 6 found out today the call center fielding these calls isn't even on campus. it's an independent company located in oregon, and that is making the management of any quality control all the more

>> security numbers were the most sensitive piece of this. it's enough that we want people to be concerned. seriously. we're taking it very seriously. >> the call center is operational from 9 in the morning to 9 p.m. the university has also set up a website of frequently asked questions about all this. we put a link to that on our powered by news 6. the university of central florida may not be the only hacked. see what we discovered today coming up at 5:00. for now, we're live at ucf, eric sandoval, news 6. >> thank you. a shooting in orange county lands two people in the hospital. one of them police say was an innocent bystander. witnesses tell news 6 he was hit by one of the 20-some bullets that were fired overnight. this happened outside a restaurant along orange blossom trail trail. kirstin o'connor has more.

restaurant led to a long search overnight as investigators spent hours in the parking lot looking for clues. >> an undercover detective heard shots fired at the restaurant where two men were hit. our cameras were rolling overnight as the ambulance drove both victims to the hospital. >> deputies say it all started inside the restaurant when one of the victims was arguing with the two suspects. when he tried to leave, the two men ambushed and started shooting at him in the parking lot. 50 people were in the restaurant at the time and witnesses we spoke with say they heard about 20 shots. some were held inside for hours while deputies questioned them. detectives say one of the fight. the other man who was shot was just in the area. deputies say he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. >> detectives are now looking for two men. they say one in his 20's, one in his 40's, who they say sped out of the parking lot right after the shooting. >> thank you. there are several big events this weekend.

and plan ahead. we sent news 6 meteorologist candace campos outside live to pinpoint city by city. she starts off our coverage in lake county ahead of the mount dora art vessel. you're at one of my favorite events. it looks fabulous out there. >> this is the first time i've actually come out here. this is the cutest little town ever. i can imagine when the booths coming up and people start filling up the streets, how great this event is going to be. but, yes, we spoke to a lot of folks out here preparing for the big weekend, both saturday and sunday the festival runs. there's going to be plenty of food and entertainment and the arts. one artist comes down from michigan every year because he says this is his favorite art show, for more reasons than one. >> last year we tried it for the first time. it's a cute little town and people were really responsive and everybody seemed to like the arts and it's great.

show with stephen colbert" and then a super special edition of news 6 at 11:00. >> the man considered to be the prime suspect in the disappearance of a jacksonville toddler pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter. he's come clean on what he says happened to little lonzie barton. william ebron is going to serve 20 years in prison. he claims he was having sex with the mother in july and they say they put lonzie in the bathroom. a bath was being drawn for him and the toddler got in and he was found facedown in the pump. he dumped the body and made a false 911 call saying he was abducted in the car. the medical examiner found fractures on lonzie's skull and ribs. if prosecutors found out he lied about what really happened, his

>> as temperatures start dropping again tonight, we have a warning for parents. it's surrounding the danger for children who wear puffy coats while buckled in their car seats. while it doesn't freeze here often, it doesn't mean we don't bundle up our kids. this is a serious concern but there are some easy steps to stay safe. >> in cold weather we bundle up our children to prepare them for the elements. but a bulky coat in a car seat can be a dangerous combination. the harness might not be tight enough to secure your child in a crash. with the help of 5-month-old ben, she demonstrates if the coat is too big and bulky to prepare under the harness. they removed ben's coat and put him back in the seat to see how loose the straps were. >> the snow suit added this extra room. >> in the event of a frontal

there's so much more space for ben to ride up and his head to be outside the protection of his shell, which means he could have a head injury. >> you can use the same test for bigger kids to see how much room the puffy coat puts between them and their harness. >> always make sure your child is properly harnessed every time. you should not be able to pinch any fabric and the chest clip should always be at armpit level. >> how can you keep your child safe and warm in a car. for a baby, consumer reports recommends securing her seat and putting a blanket on top of the harness. for bigger kids, teach them this cool trick of wearing their coat over the harness for riding in the car. >> it looks like a blanket. >> looks like a blanket he said. along with the tips, consumer reports suggests you periodically go to a car seat check-up event to make sure it is properly installed. they have those at babies "r" us and a lot of fire stations as well. >> it's timely because it was coat weather today and tomorrow

>> the entire weekend. i'm not going to be found without my jacket. the great thing is you can embrace it now. hey, i can wear my jacket. >> absolutely. >> good stuff. let's show you what's happening on radar. there's nothing to show. i love it when i don't have to work at it. overnight lows this morning were way down there. we dropped to 38 in gainesville. 39 did it in ocala. 41 from the villages to 42 in leesburg and sanford and orlando. both bottomed out at 45 degrees this morning, same drill at new smyrna beach and 43 in daytona beach and 50 in cocoa beach as far as the hot spot. it was kind of the hot spot again for the daytime high. we hit 63 in cocoa beach. 61 leesburg. we're all close. somewhere between about 58 and 61. except for palm coast where you stopped at 54 today. 56 did it in daytona beach. so everyone is a little on the cool side. right now, temperatures have not fallen very far from the daytime highs.

60, 61 in melbourne and leesburg right now at 60. other temperatures, in palm coast, still at 54. that's all you were able to muster today. you're kind of still there. 59 in the villages. 57 in sanford, down to 61 in melbourne. wind directions making the biggest difference. last night we talked about the winds coming from the northwest and here from the south. right now, in orlando, a blowing, pushy 18-mile-an-hour wind. very stiff winds along new smyrna beach at 23 miles per hour. they're all coming in here from the northeast, funneling in the cooler air. here's the big difference. notice that a touch of cloud cover is down south in miami and some clouds streaks have formed over the atlantic. clouds are going to blow in over the east coast. it's going to make a huge difference. when you watch futurecast here, it likes to grab on to the moisture and say, oh, my goodness, scattered showers are out there. i don't expect much is going to happen tonight. during the day tomorrow, though, as the winds shift around,

system is strong enough and give enough lift that we will eke out showers after 1:00 tomorrow afternoon into the evening. then we get the frontal zone coming through here by sunday. by sunday, we're all clear. we're all cool again. overnight low tonight in de land drops to 46 degrees. 47 in oviedo. i'm going to call it 40 tonight in ocala and titusville down to 56 and 53 in melbourne. the official forecast in orlando, clear for now but the clouds will be returning as the evening wears on. the overnight low tonight is 48. here's tomorrow. >> first thing in the morning, 48 degrees. by noon tomorrow, 59. the daytime high goes to 64. we're looking like we're going the right way. we hit 60, 61 today. 64 tomorrow. we're doing things right, right? yeah, not really. 64 is the daytime high tomorrow, and sunday's daytime high is 59 with rain chances 30%. we'll be drier on monday. >> thank you, tom. >> just in, the alert to parents

>> all right. we're following breaking news right now in downtown orlando. sky 6 is flying over bumby avenue and robinson street. take a look at this. fire officials are telling us a milk truck hit an unoccupied building at 210 bumby avenue. orlando fire said code enforcement is checking out the building to make sure it is secure after the crash. all southbound lanes on bumby are shut down from robinson. no one was hurt in this. we'll stay on top of this breaking news for you and let you know as soon as we learn more. >> well, super bowl mania continues at 4:00 today with just two days left until the big game. we're talking glitz and glamour. >> it's something you won't see on the field come sunday. >> okay. so take a look. these fashion footballs -- aren't those fabulous -- were

been diagnosed with protusis, a respiratory illness commonly known as the whooping cough. >> the principal sending out phone calls and letters to parents at lake minneola high school confirming one student was sick on january 21st. if anyone was at the school during that time, they may have been exposed. the school is asking any parent to double-check their student's vaccinations making sure they're up to date. if you're not sure, call your doctor. >> now at 4:30, a multi-state hunt for an armed and dangerous missouri couple came to a dramatic end overnight. >> the tense moments were all captured on cell phone video. they didn't go down without a fight. >> no, they did not. the duo we're talking about is bonnie and clyde and their chase came to an end in the panhandle this morning during a shoot-out with police. >> the manhunt for blake fitzgerald and his girlfriend, britney harper, came to a violent end in the panhandle

nearly five days after police say the pair kidnapped, stole south. the couple's first victim was kyle dietz. the he was kidnapped on sunday. >> he had a gun in his lap the entire time. i was just trying to stay calm and being sarcastic and trying to crack jokes. >> and hour later, they dumped the hotel clerk. an hour later, fitzgerald kidnapped a woman from her home and forced the woman into her car and let her go a few miles down the road, taking her suv. monday surveillance video picked up the pair more than 250 miles away in perry georgia. it appeared to show fitzgerald robbing and abducting a female clerk at a convenience store. like the other victims, the clerk was released unharmed. >> there's no reason to harm. even if you don't harm the people, you're mentally messing them up.

florida on wednesday. fitzgerald robbed a surf shop and grocery store. both 30-year-old suspects have a criminal history. fitzgerald spent time in yale for first-degree murder in 2014. harper pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated in 2010. >> we want to get you back to breaking news we've been following. sky 6 has been flying over bumby avenue and robinson street in downtown orlando. a milk truck crashed against a building at 210 bumby avenue. a tow truck is now on the scene. it's been causing big traffic delays in the area. all southbound lanes on bumby are still shut down from robinson. we're told no one was hurt in this. firefighters are on the scene, also checking out that building, making sure it is safe. you can see traffic backed up a little bit there, though. we'll stay on top of this breaking news situation for you and let you know as soon as we learn more. >> new developments in an excessive force case in marion

news 6 has learned one of the former deputies accused in the beating of an unarmed man has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. 33-year-old jesse terrell is charged with violating derek price's civil rights. it's all after video showed price appearing to surrender and being punched, kneed and kicked by several deputies. terrell could face 10 years in convicted. >> new at 4:30, the city of orlando has just put out their first-ever study to see how many people were using the city's trails. the report focused on bicycles and pedestrians in the city. the top three busiest trails used are lake eola, lake baldwin loop and the lake underhill path. the busiest days are sunday, saturday and tuesday with 5,264 average daily users. the mayor says he has made it his top priority to expand the city's transportation options to allow people a better way to get around the city. he also says later this year,

share a route or shared lane route to connect the orlando urban trail to the cady way very cool. >> google paid a visit to central florida today. >> they named a brevard county boy as the statewide winner. >> the third grader at westside elementary designed a doodle which is the logo design that appears on google.com. google asked students across the country to doodle based on a special theme. this year's theme is "what makes me, me?" they'll get their doodle featured on google's home page for one day and a $30,000 scholarship and $50,000 going for education grant and a trip to google's headquarters in california to meet the google team.
