why things are looking up for this new internet star. the breaking bark alert coming up in just moments. >> but first, we're following breaking news right now. sky 6 is over a fiery battle in orlando. they battled the flames from outside this burning home along minoso street near carver middle school. two dogs were rescued inside the home. no word if anyone was injured. the state fire marshal is investigating. >> also breaking an arrest in a wal-mart attack involving a knife. the suspect, we're just learning, teen girls, 15 and 16 years old. the two were caught stealing from the wal-mart along south boulevard. when a security guard tried to stop them, one of the teens lunged at him with a knife. the teens are both charged with weapon.

for now from the bitter blast of cold air. >> it's warming up out there a little bit. after a frosty morning in northern parts of central florida, looking a lot better this afternoon. you can see pictures there of frost on the cars and dogs bundled up as well. we sent meteorologist candace campos to pinpoint how it's looking right now. i don't think she's following any frost right now, but chief meteorologist tom sorrells will tell us it's still chilly out there in some spots, right, tom? >> oh, my gosh, it's still chilly. but it warmed up nicely as the day wore on. we made it back in the 60's. we're celebrating for now, but for us, it's on the cool side. right now, winds have died out. other temperatures for you, 68 from gainesville to ocala to the villages. the temperatures down by the coast slow to rebound. 62 at the cape and 60 in cocoa beach and the wind speeds have died down, too.

the evening forecast temperatures dropping to 59 by 7 p.m. >> thank you, tom. >> news 6 investigates the man maryland police say gunned down two deputies. >> the sheriff in harper county maryland says 68-year-old david brian evans shot and killed one of his deputies in a panera restaurant outside baltimore yesterday. he then shot another deputy not far away before he was shot dead. this afternoon, news 6 uncovers evans had two arrest warrants out for him at the time, including one from orange county. news 6 reporter eric sandoval is getting answers from investigators today. what have you found out about this man? >> you know, the orange county clerk of courts didn't want to give us this search warrant. they basically say this is part of the investigation in maryland. we got something better from the maryland police department. this is the police report that basically details what happened here in orange county. it tells the story of a man who was willing to run from police,

>> you've had contact with the harper sheriff's office and provided them with a copy of our report. >> maitland police lieutenant says that report lays out what happened last april in the office complex parking lot. he says it involves a 68-year-old driver by the name of david brian evans, a man shot dead in a shoot-out near baltimore yesterday after he shot and killed two deputies. maitland police investigators say it was around 4:00 in the morning last april when they found a car hiding near a tree here. they say evans was behind the wheel and woke up when he saw the officer. >> the male became very nervous, said he worked at the building, which i didn't. he appeared to be living or working out of the vehicle. >> as they were about to run a check on the license plate, evenss hit the gas pedal and drove out on maitland boulevard with police checking him. he barrelled over the concrete median getting over the right lane and sped off.

maitland police or any other law enforcement again. >> there's really nothing in this report that would signal there? it's something that police officers encounter every day. >> we checked and maryland police are still investigating, trying to figure out why evans would open fire on these deputies. some speculate he basically had general. maitland police tell us they have a message for those investigators in maryland tonight. find out what it is, coming up in my story at 6:00. eric sandoval, news 6. >> thank you, eric. just in at 4:00 now, new zika cases confirmed in florida. >> the health department released the new numbers within the last couple of hours. >> they tell us the two new cases are in miami-dade and lee counties. that puts the total in the state up to 18, 7 of which are in miami-dade. we also have one case in osceola and another in nearby st. johns county. all of the cases are travel-related, meaning there

one along the east coast in new jersey. inspectors are looking at the damage of the royal caribbean cruise ship. it ditched a scheduled docking in cape canaveral and turned around with thousands of passengers on board to its home port in new jersey. tonight the passengers are sharing with us their nightmare trip at sea. >> after a nightmare at sea, passengers of the anthem of the seas cruise ship are back on solid ground, sharing tales of a dream caribbean vacation gone rogue. >> the wind was coming through the doors. we thought it was going to break the glass. we slept on the sofa because we didn't think we were going to make it.

cooler temperatures making it easier to find the snakes when they're out there sunning themselves. they're quite the target. but wildlife officials say there could be tens of thousands of pythons out there. the females go out and lay 100 eggs. snakes not native to florida, some experts say pet owners let the burmese go into the wild when the snakes got too big. >> they don't have any natural predators in the state of florida. there could be tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of snakes. we just don't know. they're not supposed to be here. >> they average about 8 feet long. they're pretty difficult to find when they camouflage themselves in the everglades. it's more than 1 million acres of swamp and sawgrass. there's a lot of them they're not finding out there. some of these are big enough to take down a deer and swallow it whole. >> you can remember the one that ate an alligator and it split open.

throughout the 6 and 7:00 risk when getting on and off the school bus. >> we showed you the video yesterday at 5:30, cars driving right past the bright yellow school bus, completely ignoring the flashing stop sign. one car nearly hits her daughter. so we took this video to the orange county school district and police. once they were notified about the problem, see what happens when news 6 reporter mark lehman returned to the same street this morning in the metro west area of orlando. >> firsthand today, we saw the

4:30, two crooks busted after they broke into several cars in the tourist area. deputies arrested the two men who broke into two different cars on i-drive. first, they say the two busted the window of a rental car parked at a walgreen's and stole around $5,000 worth of stuff. next, deputies say they, along with a minor, stole a cell phone. >> news 6 has learned a candlelight vigil will be held tonight for deputy scott pine

around the construction site. >> it's impacted our time because lane closures have been happening. >> fdot tells us they've added signs around the site saying "business access open" after some businesses expressed the concerns of closures happening over the valentine's day weekend. fdot assured us people can get to businesses using side streets. even so, some drivers are steering clear. >> brick road or not, it's not comfortable, but i use them to avoid 1792. >> others say they'll just have to deal with the inconvenience. >> i'm going to have to go out of my way. >> drivers will take this road, lee road, to get back on to 1792 if they're taking that detour.

back open at 6 a.m. on monday. >> thank you. the same detour will be set up next weekend starting at 7 p.m., friday the 19th. >> have concerns about your kids' school? tonight parents in volusia county will meet with teachers to discuss plans the district has going forward. today is the third of three meetings where parents, teachers and staff will discuss everything from curriculum to teacher shortages and budget priorities. the meeting is organized by parents and teachers and is not affiliated with the school board. tonight's meeting is set for 6:30 at henson middle school in daytona beach. teachers are asking for a 3% raise but say district officials won't negotiate. a recent survey by the volusia teachers association -- organization, i should say, found 39% of teachers are looking to leave the district at the end of the school year.

that's what i am. this is at freedom seven elementary school in cocoa today. these are sharp 6th graders. look how attentive they are. it was hard to get them to laugh at first. i think they thought like i was soldiers. they're really brilliant children. i had to stop for a moment today because one of the children asked me a question i'd never been asked before. i had to take a piece of paper and pencil and draw a jet stream. they asked how does it impact the storms and affect cloud formation. the two kids that escorted me out reached up and grabbed my hand and went, "nice to meet you, sir." looking at me straight in the face. had a great time. i loved it. freedom 7 elementary school in cocoa beach. right now, the radar is doing great. everything is as clear as can be. it was the lows this morning

today, the sunshine came raging back. it was beautiful. again tonight, we drop quickly. just not as cold as the last few nights. during the day tomorrow, no big deal. a little bit of cloud cover but not much. by friday, 7 p.m., we will have a beautiful friday in central florida. saturday, here comes a passing front through. it's going to come through basically dry. it's not going to be a major cold front. it's more of a reinforcing shot kind of cold front. so it does drop us a bit, like 3 or 4 degrees on saturday and a few more on sunday. but overall, this is a really good set-up. overnight lows tonight are a dream compared to what we went through last night. last night in ocala, you were down to 28. tonight, 43. 44 in the villages, 45 in leesburg. the overnight low tonight in orlando, i'm going to call it 48 degrees. nice night. 48 to 47, depending on where you are. primo. here's tomorrow. >> first thing in the morning 8
