20 years and running. tonight a new call to catch a rapist and police think he maybe using the names of dead people to stay out of sight. good evening, i'm matt austin. >> and i'm lisa bell. detectives hope someone recognizes this guy. shaun chaiyabhat is live. quite a twist in this investigation. >> reporter: yeah, it really is, not only did police figure out he's been using a fake name. now we have an updated picture of this illusive fugitive. >> reporter: for decades, police were looking for this man. who now may look more like this. his look has changed and so has his name.

charged with four counts of rape ing a child under 12-year-old. the crime appears to have happened in 1984, but he was never charged until 1996. and he still has never been arrested for the crime. instead, he went on the run. this picture was taken when he was in his 40s and for years, he was the last picture police had. at the time, his last known address was here in palm bay. neighbors do not recall him living here. perhaps because his appearance has changed. he is now 66-year-old this latest picture was taken in 2004 when he called himself robert dean woolly. police say he stole that identity from a dead man. that was more than a decade ago and police are convinced he may have taken other fake names. >> reporter: police say adams is 5'8".

david eaveens was wanted here in orange county. he died yesterday after a shooting in maryland. he was shooting at maryland deputies including one inside a panara. his son told a baltimore tv station. his mother was actually at the restaurant. s evens was there to hurt her. she called police and left before the shootings happened. >> he probably saw the rest of his life in jail and said i'm got going to -- i'm going to try to get away. never had any issues in the past with police officers and never disliked, you know what i mean? he was just, i think he just got into. he was a heavy drinker. he had emotional problems. and all in all, i think this is what happened today was a terrible tragedy. >> police say they approached him during a traffic stop in this parking lot last year, but he sped off and wasn't seen again. tonight, bernie sanders is trying to keep the momentum
