news 6's troy campbell just got an update from the victim's dad. as police were able to tell you, troy, you're hearing the victim's car has now been found? >> reporter: yeah, that's exactly right. the shooting happening more than three weeks ago now, here in this publix parking lot. police saying they found the vehicle the victim was last seen driving last night. also the victim's father pleading, anyone who knows anything, to turn themselves in. >> there's a murderer out there. it could be your kid. >> reporter: the father of the 21-year-old andrew devon jones, pleading for anyone who knows anything about his son's murder, to come forward. >> reporter: the fire marshal is ascertaining the accelerant used to set fire the vehicle. >> reporter: the car was found sunday evening in a park in oakland.

young dad. >> julie: deputies say it started when they tried to stop the person along john young parkway early yesterday. but instead of stopping, deputies say she took off and ran a red light at a busy intersection. news 6's mark lehman was there today for her first court appearance. >> reporter: in court today, a judge highlighted the fact that the woman is a repeat offender when it comes to serious traffic violations. while she learns she's staying in jail for the time being, the victim's family hopes she never gets out. >> unbelievable. i can't believe my son is never coming home again. >> reporter: it feels like a nightmare to them. their hearts are broken and can't imagine life without them. the parents are now left to care for his daughter, too young to comprehend the loss. her father was finishing up his shift delivering pizzas early sunday when troopers say this

only some students took the writing portion online today while the majority will use pen and paper. more online testing is scheduled to begin in april. volusia county schools tell us they'll start testing tomorrow. new problems for royal caribbean's anthem of the seas. >> julie: matt austin is joining us with a threat of sickness and severe weather. >> matt: this cruise ship cannot seem to catch a break. let's start with the stomach bug. some of the guests were experiencing norovirus symptoms. the tweet said it was about 10 per day from that 6,000 total population. but that it didn't affect the captain's decision to return. the cruise line says what's really driving the situation to head back to port is the potentially rough weather in the forecast. now, according to their social media account, the captain followed the new storm avoidance policy and consulted with some experts. this is what they're telling us.

>> reporter: well, they arrested the batman armed robber early this morning. they say as of friday night, he was involved in nine armed robberies. the last one being i love new york pizza on east colonial as they say their employees actually chased the guy down the street where he dropped his cell phone. investigators picked that up. well, now he's behind bars tonight. known as the batman armed robber for wearing this get-up during two of his nine robberies. he's now in jail. from january 22nd until february 21st, morales went into the stores all over east orange county carrying a gun and aggressively demanding cash, even stealing jewelry from workers. investigators say he did all of this because of drugs. >> he appears to be a heroin

thousand dollars a day addiction habit. >> reporter: right now, he's charged with one count of armed robbery. he will be facing four more charges by the end of the day. we got ahold of his criminal record and he has a long list of charges, including heroin, and burglary of a dwelling. >> lisa: loren korn reporting live tonight, thank you. new tonight, more details coming out about the embry-riddle graduate who was killed on her first day of duty. >> julie: the 28-year-old deputy was shot to death one day after she was sworn in. >> ginger: the rookie officer was only a few hours into her first day on the job. they arrived saturday night on a domestic disturbance call. the pentagon staff sergeant is accused of shooting and killing the 28-year-old woman and accused of shooting two other officers before eventually surrendering to police.

police found the body of hamilton's wife. tonight as the suspect sits in jail, a memorial grows for the officer, a day before she was shot, sworn in at the prince william police department where she had once interned. the department tweeted out a picture with a message "be safe." according to reports, before deciding to become a police officer in 2015, she spent nearly eight years in the marine corps reserves. the officer's high school principal remembers had her final yearbook thought which read "live for something rather than die for nothing." >> the irony is a bit overwhelming. gives her life to county service and has her life taken away on the first day. it's just not right. >> ginger: the suspect will be held without bond until preliminary hearings begin on april 18th. the two other officers shot are in the hospital tonight but expected to make a full

>> julie: this just in, ucf is one step closer to getting its campus in the heart of downtown orlando. the university announced it will receive a $2.5 million gift from its community partners. the academic building is going to be the centerpiece of ucf's downtown campus. earlier this month, city leaders approved an agreement to provide $75 million toward the project. ucf leaders are making their pitch to the state board of governors wednesday in orlando. if approved, the school hopes to open a campus in the fall of 2018. >> lisa: it was a great day to take a stroll anywhere in central florida. chief meteorologist tom sorrells is joining us now. >> tom: the radar is clear. there's no worries of anything rocking in here tonight. it's been a good run throughout the entire weekend really. visible satellite has yet to fade. you can see the broken clouds trying to feed in from the east

the six cities having city elections in orange county are encouraged to vote. in orlando, johnny fernandez, news 6. >> ginger: more money is coming to schools in florida. >> julie: news 6 has learned lawmakers agreed to boost million. >> lisa: that is a 1% hike in how much money is spent per student, putting it at $7,178. governor rick scott has proposed using an increase in property taxes to help boost the budget increase but legislators agreed only to use state sales tax dollars, which means property tax rates changed by school districts will go down slightly this fall. >> julie: construction crews on the i-4 ultimate project are back to work nearly a week after a worker was killed. it prompted managers to halt the entire project. crews resumed work over the weekend and are expected to be fully back at it by the end of the week, after the death of

days they've been creeping up on us because of the rising cost of oil. we're looking at 1.74, up 3 cents from last week, nationally. if you're looking at florida right now, 1.74, right there in line with the national average and for orlando, it's actually 10 cents better than national and florida, at 1.64, one of the lowest in the state next to tampa. great news if you're driving to work. prices are still low. we have to watch and see if the trend continues. you have to keep in mind if you've been looking at the ira or the stock market, it's not the greatest of news for the overall stock market. you have to weigh the pros and the cons. >> lisa: a double-edged sword there, matt. thank you. a truck dangles over the edge of i-25. it happened in colorado. a denver police department spokeswoman says it appears the driver swerved to try to avoid hitting something in the road and instead went up the wall.

orlando city lions' new downtown home. everything is on track for the 2017 season. the 2016 season starts soon in the citrus bowl. >> lisa: a consumer alert at 4:30, question tonight, are you safe from hackers? >> julie: we're learning a major data breach at the i.r.s. is much bigger than first realized. do we know how this happened? >> ginger: yeah, we do. hackers got sensitive information using the agency's get transcript program, allowing people to check their tax history online but it ended up being a gateway for cyber crooks. not even virginia-based tax attorney wayne zell was protected from hackers who stole his identity. >> someone was trying to claim a refund using my social security number. i knew something was wrong. >> ginger: the i.r.s. data dump is the latest in a series of

this month, the i.r.s. says there are as many as 724,000 victims. >> the i.r.s. is frankly not doing enough to protect us. >> ginger: the i.r.s. says hackers used personal information gathered from other online sources like bank accounts to get personal identity questions on the get transcript forms. one possible culprit, i.r.s. approved tax preparers. one audit found six out of 13 i.r.s.-approved companies failed at providing adequate security to customers. >> we're often our own worst enemies. there are times we don't use a proper password or proper security. >> ginger: the i.r.s. says it's notifying hacked taxpayers by mail, as well as offering free identity protection for a year. the online viewing and download feature to get transcript has 2015. the i.r.s. is working to restore

chief meteorologist tom sorrells is joining us now. what a great-looking forecast. >> tom: i have nothing to do battle with. beautiful weather. i've got it made. nothing on the way, nothing knocking on the door. it's all good stuff in central florida tonight. we're good to go. it's been beautiful all day, continuing into the night. how well did we turn out? we hit 77 in orlando. just above the average of 76. days are getting longer. normal daytime highs are getting warmer. normal highs this time of year is 76, normal low is 54. we're in the range there. records on the date, 89 and 33, we're nowhere near any of those. right now in daytona beach, beautiful, 72 degrees with winds hour. in melbourne, 71. relative humidity 53%. look at the current conditions. 72 along the strip from daytona beach to palm coast, 73. and 72 from the cape down to cocoa beach and new smyrna beach has stopped reporting.

when it works, it works. when it doesn't, i can't fix it. wind speeds coming in here from the east at 6 miles per hour in orlando. calm in the villages, 9-mile-an-hour wind in ocala. visible satellite image showing exactly what's going on with the cloud cover. the bottom line here is not much. today. there will be a little bit tonight. overall, i'll call it partly cloudy until the fog sets up late night. it's going to be just cool enough that some of you will wake up to patchy fog. we've got enough moisture around. the dry spots are the blacks and oranges. the orange up north has left the carolinas and some of the moisture aloft has streamed in. we've had a little bit of cloud cover. during the next several hours, this is midnight tonight. no big changes except for patchy fog conditions in the area for sunrise tomorrow morning. troy will be in at that hour tracking that mess in the morning. when i say mess, i mean the fog. i don't expect it to be truly

but patchy fog can't be ruled out. by 7 a.m. wednesday, here comes the cold front. normally this time of year, if we get the el nino-driven cold fronts we're kind of scared but not this time. the front comes through with very little fanfare, maybe a shot, just like that. a burst of energy, and that's about it, we'll be done into the afternoon and evening by wednesday into thursday. let's talk temperatures. overnight low tonight in daytona beach is 54. which is really enjoyable. overnight low tonight, 54 in sanford and 56 in oviedo and 46 in ocala and 50 in the villages. tonight in titusville, 57. 61 in cocoa beach and 58 in kenansville. the low tonight in orlando, 58 degrees, mild conditions. patchy fog late. here's tuesday. first thing tomorrow morning, temperature reading is 61 degrees at 8 a.m. by noon, 77. the daytime high goes to about 80. so, yeah, a couple of great days coming up again tuesday and wednesday.
