are not properly trained. he's not a trainer, he's a career criminal. here's investigator mike deforest. >> reporter: abby adores her doberman she named cat. >> come on cat. >> reporter: the nine-year-old who has down syndrome and in remission for leukemia needed a trained service animal. so her family purchased the puppy from a breeder and took it to kids k-9. a dog training school run by ryan thompson, seen here on his company's website. >> cat was a happy, healthy puppy. >> reporter: this is what cat reeb nah looked like when the family centered off the thompson's $3,000 training program. this is what she looked like two months later. there are unexplained marks on her face and body. she can no longer wag her tail. >> the vet said it looked like someone took a rubber band and

so her tail is completely useless at this point. and it's going to have to be amputated. >> reporter: the dog's paws have bloody sores. >> i had to carry her into my house. and she laid on the couch. >> reporter: they're convinced the dog was abused while in his care. he claims to be a certified dog trainer. but when we checked with each of these organizations, they say they have no record of thompson. then, we drove to this address listed on the kid's k-9 facebook page. it turns out to be the home of the lake brantly rowing club, not a dog training facility. news 6 has learned he's robert ryan freed luhr. a convicted felon with more than a dozen arrests. although he's never been charged with animal abuse, he has served time for abusing a child and his girlfriend. according to this police report, he strangled her and kicked her

>> if i knew any of those things, i would have never sent her there. she paid more than $500 to send her german shepard chop to one of his training courses. >> he had scratches all over him. he had patches of fur coming out ever since he came home. all he does is wine now. excessively. >> it's just, it's sad. jessica lull paid $2,500 for a service dog to help her teenage son who suffers from severe anxiety. but she said the german shepard now has severe anxiety too, and suspects it was abused. >> i can't believe what monster would do this. >> reporter: freed luhr, aka thompson has been unavailable to comment on this story because two weeks ago, he was locked up in the lee county jail for violating probation. law enforcement is now investigating those allegations of animal abuse.

bat man robbed this pizza place last friday. but the people that wanted him to work here, didn't want him to get away. they chased him down this alley. and at the foot of this fence, they found his cell phone. and investigators say this is what unmasked this bat man. >> investigators say he terrified store clerks all around the east side of orange county. jerry says they have their man. >> this criminal string of violent armed robbers have come to an end. >> reporter: he said juan more or less is behind the bat man mask in this valence video in february 2nd. he robbed $two stores dressed like that. they said he hit his ninth store on friday, this nyc pizza place on east colonial. only this time, the workers chased him as he left. he climbed over a fence and dropped his cell phone.

>> there are 100s of complaints. so what's being done now? news 6 investigators erica washington did some digging. and found out this problem is more common than you might think. >> all of a sudden, there was a pop and then i could hear the glass cracking. that's when eryka ran to her kitchen finding glass covering her kitchen floor. the glass door of her ken more elite model exploded while in the self-cleaning mode. going through her instruction manual, she wondered if she set it wrong. >> i'm replaying what i did. and i'm like i looked in the book again. i did exactly what i was supposed to do and it broke. and turns out, in a four year time span, more than 300 people have complained about the very same issue to federal regulators. the bulk involving ken more 790s. >> i don't feel safe with my kids. this person said the glass from the shattered oven door
