>> julie: i'm julie broughton. thanks for being with us. >> lisa: and i'm lisa bell. the bold act happened hours ago outside the grocery plaza. investigators say two women and a child were in an suv when the suspect jumped in and demanded cash. deputies say they put up a fight and eventually when the crook tried to jump in a getaway truck, the women followed in their suv and rammed the side, bringing the suspects to a stop not far from deltona middle school. three suspects are now in custody, but deputies have not released their names yet. our crew is headed to the scene right now. we'll have a live report for you, coming up at 4:30. >> ginger: tonight news 6 investigates a huge twist in a double homicide in winter park. a mystery for weeks until now. the investigation inside this home last month on comstock avenue near fairbanks takes a turn with a juvenile's arrest for first-degree murder.

has been talking with police all day. but you also heard from the victim's family. what have they told you? >> reporter: well, we were standing right here on the corner where there's a memorial set up for one of those victims. this is where one of those men were found that night. a family friend just drove by, saw us here and directed us down the street to where the mother of frank freeman lives, she told us she still doesn't know what happened to her son. >> i'm not angry. i'm just hurt. >> matt: mary freeman lost her son last month but tells us she's still searching for answers about what happened that night. >> she didn't tell us anything that night when it happened. they just wanted to know was -- who was there. >> reporter: on february 17th, winter park police surrounded the home on comstock avenue. 46-year-old frank freeman and 24-year-old jordan ingram were found dead near the home. after an overnight investigation

hours later, evidence markers were back on the lawn outside. now police tell news 6 there's a new development in the case. a juvenile was arrested and charged with one count of first-degree murder five days after the shooting. but the case is now sealed by court order. after burying her son last weekend, mary freeman says she's ready to hear the truth. >> i really didn't know what happened. now i'm glad somebody is going to have to pay for it. >> reporter: less than a half-hour ago, i got off the phone with winter park police. they tell me they have an update they'll be able to share within the next hour. that's part of our story we're putting together right now for 5:00. i'm kirstin o'connor, news 6. >> lisa: now to a stunning discovery. detectives are investigating a

former home of o.j. simpson. >> ginger: incredibly police say they were told it was found during the demolition of the home. it ended up with a police officer that is now retired? >> julie: the knife came to the attention of the police. this is important because simpson was acquitted in the stabbing death of his ex-wife and her friend and the weapon used in the killings was never found. this is video of the rockingham estate in los angeles being demolished. a retired officer working in the area at the time and says a person claiming to be a construction worker gave him the knife, saying it was found on the property. he held on to it until recently when police discovered it happened. police say it should not affect simpson's infamous 1994 acquittal. >> my understanding -- i'm not an attorney -- but my understanding from being a police officer for 30 years, double jeopardy would be in place here. we could not charge mr. simpson with the homicides he's already

want the suspects to get away. it all happened right here in this parking lot. it all started around noon when an armed suspect hopped into the suv and parked at the winn-dixie plaza. the suspect pointed the gun at their child and demanded the women to hand over their personal belongings and jewelry. the suspect jumped out of the suv and ran into a pickup truck with two other people inside. they took off from the parking lot and the victims weren't letting them get away. they drove behind this truck and slammed their suv right into the truck. they did hop over a median, we're told. the three suspects jumped out, ran off on foot. at some point they were near deltona high school where the school was put on lockdown. deputies say they were able to catch all three, one with a canine. now we're told all three victims are doing just fine. they were not hurt. all three suspects have been arrested. in deltona, jennifer ortega,

ebron, confessed lonzie drowned in a bathtub after they locked him in the room while they had sex. that information was uncovered earlier this year when barton reached a plea deal with prosecutors in exchange for testifying against ebron. ebron has been sentenced for more than 20 years in prison for the death of little lonzie. >> lisa: tonight no city in the country has done before and it's happening in altamonte springs. it is partnering with the ride-sharing app uber to try out a new project and as news 6 reporter mark lehman tells us, it could change your commute. >> reporter: city leaders say this is a total win for altamonte springs after a failed public transit program last year, this pilot program aims to cut traffic by changing traffic behaviors. >> good morning, altamonte springs. you did it again. >> reporter: the congressman is excited to announce the project before, even taking a selfie before demonstrating the ease of

ride-share service. >> this takes them door to door. they save money and i think it's a winner. >> reporter: the partnership is the first of its kind in the country, the city becoming fully integrated by providing a 20% discount on all uber trips within city limits. the one-year project aims to increase ridership on sunrail. all trips starting or ending at the altamonte sunrail station will receive a 25% discount. >> if you're going to use public transportation, it has to be convenient and accessible. >> reporter: in 2015, the city had a partnership with lynx flex bus which was called the uber for city transit, but they failed. now city leaders are using the funds for that and private sponsorship to fund this new project. city leaders say it has the makings of success. >> it saves money for the taxpayers and delivers an excellent product.

city leaders will be looking for another source of competition to drive the prices down. >> ginger: uber has been around seven or eight years now. i remember people saying this will never catch on. it will never last. clearly it is here to stay. >> lisa: yeah. >> ginger: unbelievable. >> julie: i'm all for uber. later tonight, garden street in titusville will close so crews can install this new pedestrian bridge. it's going to take about two months to complete the bridge. once it does, it will span across the four lane road. traffic is going to be detoured until 2:00 in the afternoon tomorrow. there could be more detours in the coming days depending on construction. >> ginger: tonight a settlement reached in the el faro cargo ship tragedy. >> julie: news 6 has learned the families of three dead crew members will reportedly received $500,000 each. >> lisa: we're told that's for pain and suffering and there's an undisclosed amount for

county now stirring a big debate on the news 6 facebook page. a lot of people have something to say about deputies having the option to fine offenders or send them to jail. last night, county commissioners unanimously voted to allow $100 citations for small amounts of pot. the citations are up to the deputy's discretion. here's the thing, it only applies to people caught with pot on the beach and in unincorporated areas of the county. cities will be allowed to adopt the law if they choose. it is set to go into effect on april 1st. >> julie: and we're getting a lot of comments about this after we posted it on our facebook page. we asked what people think about the county's new policy. so far, more than 100 comments.
