>> scott dimmic is in with the details. brad, erica. >> thankfully we're done with accumulating snow. we'll have flurries well to the east and northeast of cincinnati, thanks to the snow we had earlier. some lingering issues in some tri-state roads. this is the end of the road for dealing with this round of snow and its effects. however, the cold is surging from the west. temperatures will continue to fall in the next couple of hours. while wind speeds drop, and that pushes the windchill down or below zero in spots. and from 11:00 p.m. to 11:00 a.m. on wednesday. area wide, windchills will be near if not below zero early tomorrow.

take care of that in 10 minutes. back to the desk. >> one of the hardest working reporter larry davis has been out in the cold all day in the accident on i-74. 40 car pileup on 74. larry davis is out there live. what's the status right now? >> as you could see in my shoulder, there's a line of semis, other vehicles, as far as you could see, on i-74 here. these vehicles are not moving they are not moving for a while, after a spectacular chain reaction crash earlier today that involves some 40 vehicles. the same was unbelievable. one semi after another after another piled on top of one another. cars against car rails. some people caught in the middle took pictures of what they saw. it started around 11:00, when the weather took the turn for

snow squalls moved in the area very quickly, covering the interstate with snow and ice. tractor trailer was the first to jackknife. other vehicles slammed into one trying to stop. vehicles went into the middle of the ravine. people were trapped inside the vehicles and had to be rescued with the jaws of life. some drivers say the weather went from clear to white out conditions in a matter of minutes. >> i haven't heard any information, people on the scene. we did have a squall come through. i was out and we had large gusts of wind and blowing snow and made visibility very small at that time. when the chain reaction type crashes happened, that's what caused them. people lose visibility and they start slowing down and we get a rear end -type situation. in this situation, it's a

and all other vehicles had to with the semi. >> those who were injured taken to local hospitals. none of the injuries is life-threatening. there were a number of people trapped in the wreckage. as you could see, those people stranded in the interstate, they are checking on them to make sure they have enough fuel and are keeping warm. time. we learned in the next hour or so, there's a huge hole in the pavement, where the wreck happened. because of a huge roll of steel crashed into the pavement and causing a hole in the interstate. it will be closed for quite some time. live in i-74.

>> anguish father calls 911. and 14-year-old died. perry schaible was the first one there this morning and tells us shooting >> this is a tragic accident. you feel for the family and every unwith involved in the situation. neighbors and friends have been stopping by this house on blanch ard avenue throughout the day to pay their respects to max. and his father died when his father accidentally shot him in the neck. it turned out to be his son, who apparently snuck in the house from the bus stop to avoid going to school. the teenager died a short time later. >> and he was close to the daddy. had a father-son relationship. always, make his way, take care of his boy. always made sure he was running

making sure his hair is clear i know his dad is really heartbroken. i just pray for the family and hope everybody will be okay. >> i was shocked when i found out he ended up dying, we all cried. it was unfortunate. >> several people have been in and out of the house throughout the day. it appears at one point, they were cleaning things up. police plan to interview the father and determine the next step, that could include charges, depending on what comes out of the interview. perry schaible, local 12 news. >> it appears the teen appeared in the basement, startling the father. the handgun discharged and hit the teen. shooting of an armed robbery suspect. that word from the police chief and mayor.

the walgreen's on glen view avenue showing the gun. >> kept telling them, please, please, please. finally, thank god. >> and after getting nothing, police say he went across the street to deal with this, pulled out his gun and got away with more than $400. minutes later, police found him at sunset, repeatedly ordering to keep his hands out of his pockets. when pen brook pulled his weapon, that's when they open fire. >> they are training clearly in this situation. you see an individual. they responded in how they train. >> they get information out quickly. they had the news conference, less than 24 hours after the shooting. they are going to be multiple investigation into the situation

the officers really had no choice. >> people in the neighborhood, they thought it was pretty clear cut. the commands to the young man were basically precise. there was no confusion on what was there to do. >> and police say pem brook had 16 misdemeanor conviction. it turns out his weapon was a pistol. it looked like a real gun to the store clerks and it looked real to the cops. >> i want to be clear the officers were justified in what they did. this guy pointed a gun at the police. that's totally unacceptable. . >> cruiser cam shows the suspect, and out of sensitive to the family, we decided not to

people, killing one of them. learn how police want to find them. they say crawford shot into a car sunday night in amerrystop. 21-year-old alonzo died. a third person in the car was not hurt. that number was 352-3040. and there's now a 25 thousand reward for information that helps police catch the person who set fire to a home where firefighter died. patrick walterman died after falling on the floor in pater avenue in december -- last december. december 28th, to be exact. a $10 thousand reward has been offered. since then, individuals have thousand. if you have any information, call crimestoppers at 352-3040 and you don't have to give your name.

in dearborn county. >> troopers say it sent six people in area hospitals. and earlier, larry davis said they changed that. they are saying not life-threatening. that's the good news of the day. chain reaction crash, really bad. in really white out conditions, shutting i-74 in both directions in the ohio indiana border. the crash involved 7 tractor trailers and total of 40 vehicles. the crews work to clear the wreckage. breaking news in the persian gulf. the pentagon says it lost contact with the boats as they are travelling between kuwait and beran. the boats and crew will return promptly. the incident just happened. it remains to be seen what kind of response the u.s. has or will not have.

well on local12.com. president obama will deliver his final state of the union address. he will talk about his successes in the past year and from his two terms in office. observers says he has achieved some of the goals despite road mroks. scott schumann is in washington on the president's relations with congress and what he could do to work with them on his final year. scott? >> the white house sent out an e-mail, acknowledging, that's a legitimate challenge. also saying, we are not slowing down. we'll own the finish line. whether or not the president will do that, with or without question. >> the president of the united states. if there's one thing to expect, the white house says, it's a big picture vision. it's not just an annual to-do list.

to jail for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples will attend the president's speech. kim davis will attend with her lawyer. no lawmaker will extend. and her name was removed for all marriage licenses being issued 20 kentucky. ohioans could be considered on-line. and house panel reviewing the proposal that will secure the on-line process for voters. you will need to show your driver's license, state id card. the proposal will allow voters to secure their political power affiliation. ohio voters will claim their affiliation by casting their ballots. residents could still remain unaffiliated. >> the weather is stranding people on the road. on facebook, people who are retiring, they are cheering. they are so excited.

if the winter weather has you feel the winter blues, new report says you don't have to say that way. joining us with details is medical reporter, liz bonis. >> few people are happy to go out of school. the rest of us, they could start to feel really lousy as the cold sets in. that's not in your head. it's due to your changes in your body or brain chemistry. as they say, the day gets colder. experts in the report, found three-quarters experience the weather related depressed feeling are women, twice as common in climates like ours. this is what you're seeing. that's what we notice when we step outside. gray and not really what we were hoping for, probably when we got up. it lends to the sluggish feeling. experts say, if the days gets shorter, into december and january, temperatures are getting colder.

and some say commonly feel the weather-related fatigue. it's often called season affected disorder. changes could make a difference. so could a few other things that you may want to do on your own. this is the best part of the report. first thing they found, when people got out of the weather, they just did something 15 minutes. at little as 15 minutes of activity a day, they saw changes in the brain chemistry linked to better mood. it doesn't matter if it was inside or outside. daylight, natural light, always best. indoor lighting, extra helpful. they have sunlight lamps that gradually wake you up or gradually light up the room. they call it light therapy. they can make a difference in changing the chemistry. they found this is the time of year that messes with your chemistry. it doesn't have a lot of interaction.
