beating with the stock markets plumbing. oil priceings lunged $400 a barrel. >> may save the consumer few bucks here and there. a lot of the oil companies are laboring with some debt. the companies will be forced to lay people off. >> falling oil prices have led to hundreds and thousands of layoffs in the industry. shares of chevron and exxon skitted lower fuelling the sell-off. the shake-up in the oil market, makes it a tough loss for the new year. signs of an economic slowdown in china has ruffled the market. it could lead to a domino effect around the world. >> for the average investor, you should not check your 401(k).

thousand points, the market is on track for the worst months since the financial meltdown in 2009. marley hall, cbs news new york. >> levels not seen in years. what is driving the market to decline. >> dow jones industrial sinking sharply at the open and the selling showing no signs of letting up. market. that means they are down 20 percent from their recent high. and oil prices hitting levels we have not seen in 12 years, below $30 a barrel. add to a drumbeat of disappointing economic data, december retail sales falling. that's right, during the all-important holiday shopping season retail sales slipped lower for the month.

not as warm as yesterday. we're in the mid-50s at the time. right now, it's right over the center of the tri-state. we will continue to push off to the north and east, looking a closer look at butler county, hamilton, heavier rain moving towards middletown. moving northeast at i-75. a lot of wet, and ponding of water in the roadways as well. we will see that throughout the day. downtown, it's spotty. mainly light. we're not looking at heavy rain. that's the same over northern kentucky. there's pockets of moderate rain pushing in pendleton county and eventually in southern claremont county. rain is coming. there's a little bit of a break on the way. it won't last for too much longer. we're locking at the clouds. and the temperatures we have now, that's as high as we will get all week. enjoy it now.

eventually, few snow showers and flurries. that's going to move in here later on tonight. until then, temperatures will continue to fall at midnight around 37. we start to see the rain tapering to just on and off light showers, maybe some sprinkles. the heaviest of the rain is moving through right now. it changes over to a few flurries after midnight tonight. that continues on to the early morning hours tomorrow. eventually, a few more snow showers by the end of the weekend. not some snow flurries on the way. it gets frigid on monday. talking about single digit weather. a round of light snow, could put a blanket of snow on the ground by wednesday. and we'll still break down the details coming here in 15 minutes. paula. >> thanks, brendan. man suffers burns in a fire. jeff hirsh joins us line from the scene.

this is the heart of the fire right here, right in the particular first floor. the building on main street. if you are familiar with lebanon, it is just a few blocks from downtown lebanon where the golden lamb is. the fire started early this afternoon. the fire did break out on the first floor which i just showed you. faes a four unit building. there were 6 people who were in the building at the time. there was the man who got burned significantly, 40 percent of his body. everybody else got out. he also got out. he was pulled out by passersby. as i told you, six people at the time were inside. >> we're being evacuated through the structure through windows. another occupant was being pulled out of the front door of the front porch. and extinguishing occupants, structure at the time. we started extinguishing the fire. multi-agencies were on scene to

clear creek, deerton township. >> and the cause of fire is under investigation. we're told there's nothing suspicious. it's believed to be accidental. check it out. see that window? that is a window that two young children who were in here, they were rescued out of the window. we'll tell you about that coming up at 5:00. live in lebanon, jeff hirsh. >> the name of the victim and his condition was not released. police investigate a shoot-out in bond hill. the 24-year-old was shot around 5:30 yesterday evening in a pick up truck in redding road. another person in the truck fled the scene. investigators believe someone in a gray car exchanged gunfire. officers have not pulled out

for in connection with the case. they say it was a random act and not planned out. 20-year-old, birming hand and rodney, was charged yesterday with the same charges. no pictures available for the alleged gunman. dl1el0marcus staly, charged with robbery. police say while cook and willingham stayed in the car, foster and stallic confronted the brother outside their home and forced their way inside. there was a fight and casso was shot. he later died at uc medical center. police say it wasn't long until two of the suspects turned themselves in >> two of them came to the police station, knowing they were about to get them. that would have been justin cook, arrived at the police station later this evening at 13th, early morning of the 14th. and willingham came to the

>> and since the police chief herzal said two people were inside the room when tyler casso was shot. they were witnesses to what happened and all four took off in a blue mazda protege. two turned themselves early. other two, staley and foster were arrested in forest park and in cincinnati. now police also say that they had great cooperation from area police agencies, butler county, hamilton county agencies and cliffer county even as far as wilmington. coming at cbs news at 6:00, how social media played into the case. live in 12 news, back to you. and you could learn more development on the story on local12.com. local family from their home.

isolated showers here and there. as temperatures fall, the isolated showers will turn more into flurries. we'll looking more like winter outside than it does today. the atrium weather camera. tower. a lot of the clouds are pushing to the southwest and to the north and east. every once in a while, you could see the spotty showers we had this morning before the steddier names move in. and we're not getting a lot of rain out of this. this is a very light rain event we'll see today. 43 degrees. winds coming out of the south 7 miles an hour. it's not too breezy. whenever you have the rain in the south this time of year, we're ushering some warmer air. and 51 at fayetteville, georgetown. and look at the cooler weather not too far, the -- coming in at 43. and cooler weather that's slowly

41 by 9:00, into the 30s by 11:00. that's when we start to see the chance of showers decrease. maybe some sprinkles and a few flurries, certainly after the midnight hours, where we see the snowflakes. 33 by 2. and 32 degrees at 4:00 in the morning. and temperatures take a long time to cool down, especially since we have the temperatures in the 50s. i don't expect a lot of slick roads. isolated roads become a little slick at times. especially since we have flurries around tomorrow morning. the batch of rain moving in. see the rain is moving in from the south and southwest. you could see some of the light snow showers and flurries moving in from the north and west. that's a change in wind direction we will see bringing the big changes in temperature for the weekend. a lot of southerly winds coming in at 7:00. and if you look at springville, it's coming from the west and eventually from the northwest winds. you could see the difference in temperature.

it's going to be colder this weekend. we have rain moving in. the back edge, back toward louisville, at least steady rain, it gets spotty a little later. we have ponding of water in the roadways, a whole lot of cloud. it hasn't changed much in the weather channel today. no sunshine compared to what we saw yesterday. guessing we made it to the middle 50s. not so much, about 10 degrees cooler. and since it's the cooler air starting to ooze its way in. georgetown, mazeville, around 50 degrees. temperatures fall throughout the 40s tonight. i think we'll start to fall in the 30s by around 11:00. that's when you could see the rain chances to decrease a little bit. i think you'll see a couple of spotty showers from time to time. it's not going to be as widespread, as it's going on right now. after midnight, we start to see a chance of a few snowflakes from time to time.

down in northern kentucky, behind batch, and right along i-71, 75, pushing down to clairiville, getting in some piece of rainfall shortly. you could see the back edge is right to the west. and this is the back edge of steddier type of light rain that we're seeing. and was ge to the future, we loop it into the future about two hours. you could see the back edge pushing in around 6:30, 7:00. behind that, it's a couple of isolated showers from time to time. most of the rain is moving through right now. we'll be pretty much okay through the evening. that's when it switches over to a few flurries, as we get to cooler weather. this is over in oxford. the backup of moderate rain is about to push in here. and showers around about six to

and one brief shower in a distance. otherwise, we have not had a bunch of sunshine. clouds stick around all day today. the warm air mass, way above average in the 40s. we won't have any sunshine around. temperatures are getting into the 50s a couple of days ago. 43 at the airports. temperatures continue to fall in the afternoon, cooler weather in the west. very close to the 30s in south eastern indiana. i think we'll make it downtown, around 11:00, is -- certainly by midnight. how you could have -- 37 at the ground. and cooler air is moving faster right above the ground. we're getting snowflakes mixed in, even with temperatures slightly above freezing at midnight. as we go early tomorrow morning, temperatures continue to fall around freezing by 10:00 a.m.

couple of hours below sun rise. maybe an isolated snow shower around. here's the back end of rain. back end of most of the rain near louisville. the attention turns to the light flurries and snow showers. you could see how we're pulling the warm moist air from the south, ahead of the front. behind the front, coming from the north and west. the air that's moving in this weekend, in the northern midwest. parts of canada. canadian air moving in for saturday. you see the cold front? indianapolis, wind coming in the south around 9:00. springfield illinois, coming out of the west at 18. change of wind direction marks the cold front. 33 behind it, cooler weather is pushing in our direction. if you want the really cool air, single digits, it's on the way. pink shading you could see in the northern dakotas. most is locked up from canada.

second front this weekend, arctic cold front, where it's coming from. arctic from canada. the rain showers turn in with a few flurries. sunrise, have a few flurries. on and off, few light snowflakes coming down from time to time. these will continue to sunday. that's when we have the second cold front moving through. we will break down the weekend snow chances, 20 percent. by evening, i think it tapers off a little bit. 30 percent as we get towards sunday evening. that's when we have the second cold front moving through. you could see some slick roads at times on sunday. i don't think it will be a huge deal. frigid level. system. this is one to watch as we get towards wednesday. high temperatures, right around 29 degrees, light snow, couple of inches. computer models all over the place with that. we'll have to wait and see.
