se >> afternoon, everyone. thanks for joining us. one local pastor is calling it a city wide epidemic. there's a lot of attention focused on teen suicide. >> hamilton county coroner, involving juveniles. one just 12-year-old. members say they have also seen other suicide attempts and other teens talking about the subject. local 12 news reporters has more on how community leaders are stepping up to address the

of hand. >> the pastor here in the church of living god avondale says it's time for all hands on deck, and they come here to talk about a growing problem, teen suicide. >> it was a call to action. people representing churches, schools and community groups, joined forces to tackle the issue of teen suicide. pastor ennis tait calls it a city wide epidemic, hit in our neighborhoods. whether it's actual suicide or attempts. much has been related to the facebook challenge. who will miss me when i'm gone? there's indications the page will be taken down. following the news conference, many who pledged to take action, took part in a prayer gathering. their message to the, the youth, we are listening. >> we want to make sure we got ahead of the issue, started to

move faster, than i believe a lot of people understanding what is going on. when it was brought to our attention, we want to bring everybody attention, everybody is aware and everybody made a commitment to be part of solution. >> avondale, larry davis, local 12 news. >> coming up on local 12 news at 6:00, we will have more on the call to action to tackle teen suicides. plus a child psychologist weighs on the issue as well as the controversial facebook page that's linked to the problem. another local family devastated after a house fire turns deadly. firefighters have been at the scene much of the day. wilson scott aker lost his life in the early morning blaze which his mom escaped. he's the 11th person to die in the local fire so far this year. megan more has more on the scene and what local firefighters have encountered way too often.

after a man dies in a fire. you could see the mattress, where the firefighters pulled from the home. that's where the firefighters started in the front bedroom. we're told the mom was inside of the home. she was able to make it out safely. however, her son, the man who died was 66-year-old wilson scott thacker. when the firefighters got here, the home was fully engulfed in smoke. and the fire started in a mattress in the front bedroom where they found mr. thacker. we learned three people lived here, his mom. and they were able to get out safely, with the help of a neighbor, who also called 911. >> the husband tried to go and get him and he can't get him to wake up.

we can see it through the window. the window, like -- i don't know if someone burst it or if the fire caused it. doesn't really see the flames. i wanted to get back over there. my husband will cover his mouth with, so he could continue to go in. >> the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but officials tell us, they believe mr. thacker may have been smoking in bed. lebanon, megan moore, local 12 news. >> as we mentioned, 11 people have died so far this year. according to the red cross. smoke alarm helped one person get out alive this morning. this is important for you. if you need a smoke alarm, you could get one free from the red cross. here's the number to call. 513-579-3003. we will have the number in the red cross as well. the red cross will come to your home. they will install the necessary number of smoke alarms.

and it's pretty much hit and miss. most are in downtown, especially in butler county. oxford, it's been snowing for a good portion of the day. no accumulation whatsoever. there's the sunshine you see in the background. 33 degrees, we're mostly cloudy. it's not too breezy. there's a light breeze coming from the west. temperatures in the area, sitting in the freezing mark, maybe degree above or below. 33 degrees with a lot of the temperatures. and we're next in line, getting rid of the flurries, pushing to the east as well. and i think downtown, 7:00, 8:00, mostly sunny skies. and completely clear as we get towards midnight. the clear skies at night, help the temperatures fall a little bit faster. and that's why we're expecting temperatures to get down to 20 degrees, right around 6:00 a.m. you see the winds from the west, 8 miles an hour here.

especially northern kentucky, and here's winter returning as we get to next week. here's the headlines for next week. starting next monday, going to wednesday, we have a chance of snow showers. it means, it's hit and miss -type snow showers. it won't be light snow the entire time. good chunk will have snow showers. that means light accumulations will be possible. with temperatures below freezing. and we're talking about an inch here. we get another inch. that sort of light accumulation. something we will have to watch. since it is so hit and miss, it's impossible to tell the details on which neighborhood will see what this early. that's something we will have to hit in the latter part of the weekend, to get details, i should say. and 30 degrees for the high temperature during the day on tuesday. 36, and that's kind of where we bottom out.

much of the area, especially north of downtown. hamilton, franklin county and south eastern indiana, having some flurries most of the day today. none of it is sticking. a lot is pushing to the east. the last few flurries are moving across i-71 to the eastern end. wilmington, light flurries getting in for a while. adams county has some decent flurries. you could see in the far top end of the side of the screen, some clear skies. finally peaks of sunshine, most of the while. south eastern indiana, will see the clearing moving in first. pushing in those areas. downtown, around 7:00, maybe as late as 8:00, on the east side, where we start to see the clearing finally push in. with the clear skies at night, it allows the temperatures to fall faster than what they had with clouds around.
