facing a murder charge as elise colter reports family and friends say the suspect felt like he should be getting some money from the church. >> an emotional scene moments after police say this man, 68-year-old daniel cooler, opened fire inside st. peters missionary baptist church killing his brother. witnesses describe what happened. >> this man walked in and sat down. we were singing and just got through with the morning prayer and the pastor walk back in his office. after this the man got up and walked to the back where pastor was. >> as we were singing maybe one verse, i noticed him go back to the pastor and next thing i heard, a boo, boom.

out of the church. >> reporter: state police say they believe this had something to do with the domestic dispute. >> there was not a person going around arbitrarily firing, shooting inside of churches. >> we dug deeper, in 2001 he was convicted with felonious assault with a deadly weapon and pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity but later that plea was withdrawn. he was sentenced to five years probation. in 2002 he was charged with kidnapping and felonious assault with a deadly weapon. he was convicted of the felonious assault charge and a kidnapping charge was dismissed. >> reporter: while police aren't talking about any possible moan, the pastor's congregation has their suspicions. >> he has threatened the pastor

had some kind of monetary responsibility to the the church. a church now touched by tragedy but standing by their faith. it doesn't hurt my faith. i know god will keep us strong and together. >> it has been a violent weekend. an army staff sergeant is working tonight. as brian webb reports, it was the first day on the job for the officer who was killed. >> reporter: bagpipes, candles and prayers were part of a memorial for officer ashley gwenden killed on her first day on parole with the prince william county police department in virginia. >> we will continue one step at a time in honor of ashley. it would discredit her memory and selfless service if we did anything but. >> reporter: three officers responded to a domestic dispute saturday night about 30 miles

police arrested 32-year-old ronald hamilton, an active duty army staff sergeant assigned to the pentagon. they say he shot and killed his wife, then opened fire on the officers. >> it was very scary. i heard the four to five shots back to back. >> reporter: yellow tape roped off the crime scene sunday. residents paid their respects at the hospital where the officers are recovering. >> how could this happen over something so stupid. it's so sad. >> reporter: gwende nsa six-year marine corps reservist was sworn in friday. this picture was posted to the department's twitter page welcoming her and another officer with the words "be safe." brian webb for cbs news. >> two other officers are expected to recover. the officer is the fourth officer killed in the department's history. the suspect is scheduled to be in court tomorrow. a young man is in critical condition after he was shot by

police say two officers were called to break up a fight and found a man hitting someone with a broomstick. the officers say the man then tried to attack one of them and that's when he was shot. last night's shooting touched off several hours of unrest in the rio grande district of the downtown area. officers put on riot gear. they blocked the streets as bystanders threw rocks and bottles. several people were arrested. the two officers are now on administrative leave which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings. the local chapter of black lives matter held a rally and march today. it began across the street from western hills high school and ended nearby at the cincinnati police department's district headquarters. the group is protest what it calls the police-involved deaths of two african-american men called gaston and melvin murray junior. gaston was shot and killed early this month after he reached for a gun in his waste band.

murray died in a car crash back in september after police tried to stop him after they say he made an improper turn. a fire destroys a house in northern kentucky. crews were called to a home in campbell county. the house was engulfed this flames as firefighters arrived around 6:00 tonight. a man who made it outside was taken to the hospital. no word on his conditions. the area doesn't have any

out alive. >> the very early-morning hours are even worse. >> reporter: in adams county, megan moore, local 12 news. >> first responders say the family told them there were no smoke detectors in the home. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. a windy evening has continued. the rainshowers are arriving, so with all that, could it impact the morning commute? scott joins us now with no wait weather. >> we have showers moving through the ohio valley now. can't rule out some thunderstorms in the overnight but the trend here shows showers early in the overnight, few if any showers remaining for the remain good morning during good morning cincinnati. we'll rise back up to the 40s tomorrow morning with no rain especially after 8:00 or 9:00 in the morning. sunshine will be the filtered early tomorrow but we'll get more sun as we get into the afternoon. clusters are rain showing up on

adams county sheriff kimmie rogers threw out the challenge to the venture hawks and the game lived up to the hype [ applause ] >> reporter: the start of a new rivalry in adams county and only took a couple seconds for duncan darryl groom to make a steal and his first basket. >> it's great. we've had great turn-out. our community supports our people with disabilities. we're having fun. >> reporter: venture productions is a nonprofit that provides employment for individuals with disabilities. but they can also play some ball. this is the team's sixth game of the year. >> they love all the support. the people showing all the support for them is wonderful. and we get a lot of that. our community supports us a lot. >> and that sense of community

just hours before the game, cynthia and carl died in a house fire. three of the deputies playing for the adams county sheriffs team were at the fire trying to save the couple. >> i got off work at 7:00 this morning and they're out here donating their time for the community. a great bunch of young officers and there's not a greater group of people in adams county than the venture hawks. >> reporter: the gym is at near capacity and for those who couldn't make it the call was on the radio. led by duncan darryl's 48 points, the hawks crushed the eagles 70-53. and with the loss, sheriff kenny rogers made good on his promise, a pie to the face brad underwood, local 12 news. >> all the money raised at the game today will go to help the special olympics. to learn more about venture productions and follow the eagles during the rest of the season, we have a link at

times, perhaps heavier than what was depicted here on the forecast model. by the start of good morning cincinnati, 4:25 in the morning, showers few and far in between and then we get local clearing. we get in the afternoon and break out into sun, maybe filtered or mixing with cumulous clouds, but at least some sun will come back late in the day. we'll trade a temperature of 51 at 1:00 in the the morning for a temp at 43 at 4:00 a.m. we're down to 40 for the midway point of good morning, cincinnati. tomorrow 42. the forecast temperature at 9. up to 52 by 4:00 in the afternoon. planning forecast shows the next two days will be warmer than average and then cold air returns. we march into the any month. rain and isolated thunderstorms late tuesday. some flurries early wednesday. a mix of rain and snowshowers thursday. that's the best chance for any accumulation but even that looks relatively like a low bat at this point given the

we'll have the xavier on the road today in what some are calling the biggest regular season win over villanova. always the worry of a let-down game after those type of wins but is it a let-down if the senior playing is a pretty solid team? i guess that fence. but what was a let-down was not reflected of their capability. seton hall, a 9-0 run to start the game. xavier with 12 turnovers today. could have cut that in half avoiding passes like this. . >> chris mack not too happy for obvious reasons. 62-36. and you know what your team says when you're making these. hey, that was pretty easy. xavier shoots 39%, we're out-rebounded in baseball, 90-81.
