officer, ken hall, was the one who stepped in chase after the shooter. the sheriff says that's when the gunman actually stood up and then shot and pointed the gun at another table and began shooting. >> hancock told detectives that he fired three shots. before the school resource officer ken hall ran in and ran after the shooter. >> the day we feel was saved. it could have been much worse if the shooter had stayed and not been a hurry. knowing that a uniform police officer was in the schools, he was just there, and smart enough to know he was coming back. as he comes back, the kid is running out the door. >> >> the sheriff also says that the shooter had additional ammunition in hand. he says that since the school resource officer stepped out of the cafeteria, he knew he wouldn't be gone long and he

embedded thunderstorms. an outside chance for stronger storms this afternoon. in and around the 275 loop, not much brewing right now. we have had clusters of showers coming through over the last hour. we have had showers through middle town and back through lebanon and even as far south through martensville, ohio. we also have widespread soaking rain connorsville, liberty, brookville, laurel, batesville, back down into the versailles area. some gusty winds, hail up to pea-sized, perhaps dime-size possible. these showers and storms coming through southeastern indiana. the same for these cells. all of the precipitation we are tracking on precision doppler 12

to 40 miles an hour. severe likely is not likely this afternoon. it looks like most cells will produce heavy rain and lightning. temperatures lowly fall back down. the coverage and the intensity will peek early this afternoon. showers around. perhaps some thunderstorms. the rain machine will shut off as we near midnight and temperatures are down into the 30s. 52 at the international airport. some are close to 60 and others in the 40s. in addition to another check of doppler 12 hd, we'll track rain and showers later this week. all of that coming up in ten minutes. >> back to our coverage of the school shooting. students and parents

there's been a lot going on at the school. local 12's adam clements is in madison township to tell us about the latest developments there. >> good afternoon. >> the photographer and i have been covering this story since it broke yesterday. we were on the scene just about an hour after the shooting happened here at the school. things here today. a lot more calm than they were yesterday. although there was plenty of activity here at the school and at the courthouse earlier this afternoon here at the junior and senior high school that we are right now. this morning, 14-year-old james austin hancock appeared in court. not a lot of emotion or expression. his demeanor only lasted about five or ten minutes. about a dozen or so family members showed up to support him. lots of tears there. emotions running very high.

plea of denial on the attempted murder charges. hancock was taken back to the his hearing. no classes today. administrators trying to move forward and trying to get back some sense of normalcy. what they plan to do is resume classes tomorrow morning. >> tomorrow morning, we plan to have staff members in addition tomorrow morning to greet students as they get on the about uses begun you j just to increase their comfort level and return to security on the busses. >> the superintendent says that he knows having students come back here, it is going to be difficult for them. along with their parents. he's invited everyone for a public walk-through from 6:00 to 7:30.

campaign 2016 now. the kentucky republican caucus is saturday, and ohio voters go to the polls in just two weeks. that has candidates starting to come to our area. donald trump is holding a rally right now at the columbus airport. trump is beating ohio governor john kasich by about five percentage points right here in the buckeye state. kasich has said he's staying in the race at least until ohio's primary. >> donald trump will make a stop in louisville, he'll be at the kentucky international convention center at 4:00. >> voters go to the polls on super tuesday, today, republican donald trump leading marco rubio and the rest of the gop field in several states in play. democrat hillary clinton is expected to rack up many more delegates than bernie sanders today which could make her virtually unstoppable.

>> well tonight, we'll get an update on the condition of a local waterway. at the activity room on redding road. there's been a huge effort to try to get the creeks and its banks clean up. tonight water quality data and a plan to make improvements. >> the anderson center on 5 mile road is hosting a training class for the national weather service. people will learn the different aspects of identifying signs of severe weather. it runs from 6:30 until 9:30. the hamilton county sheriff's department is hosting a forum tonight. there will be many representatives from law enforcement to talk about the problem from their perspective and prevention expert and public health officials will speak as well. this event is also free and open

it is 89 degrees in goodyear, arizona, it is not that here. >> wouldn't that be nice though? >> yeah. >> we have a shelf cloud showing up. it is basically the leading edge of rain and storms. this is associated with the outfloor of storms, when you see a cloud that looks like a shelf that's associated withoutflow from a thunderstorm, and that can suggest at least the potential for stronger winds. in this case all of the showers and storms moving through the tri-state are fairly benign. at this point no severe storms are moving through the tri-state. right now on live precision doppler 12 hd.

everything is going to move to the east at 45 miles an hour with time. you may get wet, you may get drenched. northeast of wilmington and northeast of waynesville, those two are going to ride up interstate 71 or head to the east at 35 to 45 miles an hour. heavy at times. near connorsville, laurel, batesville. plenty of rain overspreading union and ripley. dearborn county also down into switzerland. all of this rain, rising sun, dillsboro, versailles, harrison is moving to the east with time. rain is overspreading northern kentucky and southwestern ohio. it is already in southeastern indiana.

this afternoon stronger storms can't be ruled out. most will deal with pockets of heavy rain and occasional light lightning lightning. so far, .03 of an inch of rain. rain may be heavy at times and visibility may be low at times. march is coming in like a lion. we have marginal severe storms through roughly 5:00 or 6:00. the threat for rain and thunderstorms droms dramatically. the dew point is coming up. temperature 53. airport. soon they will be reporting rain. 53 now in cincinnati. a wide range of temperatures in the tri-state. some in southeastern indiana are in the 40s. there are some close to

afternoon. everyone drops into the 40s and 50s late this afternoon and this evening. better instabilities town to the south, while we'll have pockets of rain coming through this afternoon. gusty winds, perhaps some strong storms, a much better threat for severe storms will stay down to our south. notice, the coverage and the intensity of precipitation picking up this afternoon, coverage and the intensity of precipitation coming down late this afternoon and this evening, and then some lingering flurries tonight. and then clouds gradually move out tomorrow. more rain and snow showers coming thursday as this area of high pressure breaking down late away. then you see rain and snow showers coming in for the back end of the workweek. marginal risk for severe weather today. especially south and southeast.
