handgun that austin hancock brought to school. two students were shot, two others were hit by shrapnel, hancock was apprehended a short time later. so far, deputies have not released a motive. but today detectives charged the two 14-year-olds with failure to report a crime. he wants parents to get the word across to their children that if they see something, they should say something. >> tell them, give them instructions what to do if they see a gun. they surely should report it, because these bullets do not have eyes, and when they leave that chamber, they know not where they go. >> sheriff jones also would not say when those two students may have seen the gun or where they saw the gun, and he said he had no idea whether or not hancock

teachers or to administrators at madison junior-senior high school. right now, he says they had nothing do with the actual shooting or any kind of a plan to take part in the shooting. i asked if any more arrests might be possible? he said it is an ongoing investigation. right now, they have arrested two 14-year-old boys in connection with not reporting that austin hancock had a gun with them. they were at the school talking to the superintendent. no reaction from the school about the recent arrests of two, 14-year-old boys. there are still butler county deputies here at the school to provide security here at madison junior-senior high. local 12 news, back to you. >> john: larry, thank you for that.

at 4:00 for the very latest, you can follow on twitter and facebook. we have new information today about a woman who police say lied about her baby being in the back seat of a car. now facing charges after yesterday's massive search for the child. local 12's megan moore joins us now to tell us about what happened in court. good afternoon, megan. >> reporter: that's right. nicole benton is facing several charges one for inducing panic. also charged with obstructing official business. police arrested benton yesterday after investigators say she lied about her three-week-old baby being in the back of her car after it was stolen. it turns out the baby was with benton the entire time.

whether she had any connection car. the judge wanted to know how and why this happened in the first place. >> she says when she called 911 she indicated that the circumstances that the child was not in the car, she knew where the child was, from my understanding. >> i'm going to ask for the 911 call from the city and try to determine what was said and not said. it is possible that in the state of panic, there was maybe some miscommunication that had occurred. >> i talked with police this morning. they tell me that benton told officers on scene that the baby was inside of that car. the judge says she's to have no contact with the child unless supervised by family services.

a little bit northern in northern kentucky. owen county right around 36. they had an inch and a half of snowfall in some locations. a lot of that snow has melted or is still melting. 40 degrees by around 5:00. our high temps through today. a couple of us may only stay into the upper 30s. sunshine. they will start to break up a little bit after 8:00 as temperatures fall to the freezing mark. as this next storm system begins to push on in. you can see it pushing through minneapolis. this is moving to the southeast and eventually through chicago with a little bit of snow and next in line for a mixture of rain and snow eventually turning it over to all rain. you hear the winds pulling in. fort wayne, indiana sitting right at 31.
