>> in their bed, kitchen, wherever it may be right now. >> no kidding. >> holly, you have to laugh. >> smile and nod. you have to. sleep is overrated. temperature in the 30s. we'll be 40s at lunch and 50 for the high today. big story. kind of a twofold is the mild weather moving in. the reason we're getting so warm today is because the winds have shifted. we're really going to see a big boost into the afternoon. for the time of the day, being around 30 is already really mild. we should be in the 20s. it's in the that extreme even with the winds because it is so warm for this time of the morning. and sustained winds generally in the 25 miles an hour range. not only into this afternoon but through this evening. we've got winter weather advisories for some of you. i'm going to pinpoint exactly where.

of this house. tiffany, one person was shot. >> within the last half hour or so, john and lynna, i learned that person who was shot was taken to the medical center. you can see the flashing lights over my shoulder. that's where the home is here on granger road. if you can imagine, this gunshot victim was inside that home for hours. other people inside that home were reluctant to come in throughout the night. eventually the swat team had to be called in. we heard this. at moments a very intense scene. a man was brought out in cuffs. and then we know that paramedics went inside. they brought out a victim on a stretcher. carrying that victim on the stretcher, officers from several nearby departments were out here on scene for hours since about 1:00 this morning.

stand off, a woman eventually came out. we saw that woman being put into cuffs and being taken into custody. we also saw children coming at the scene. we know there were three children in the home. they're okay this morning. still, a lot of questions remain. why did these people come out. why did they stay inside that home? those are question we're going to be working to get answered throughout the day here. reporting live in garfield heights, tiffany tarpley, wcco news. officer kyle pettis was driving when he hit christopher kimable in october. kimable was trying to walk across the street. now his mother is suing for damages. the lawsuit claims the officer was driving fast. didn't have the cruiser's lights on and had only one working headline.

the investigation will continue today in the disappearance of a loraine two- year-old. she was found hours after being reported missing wednesday night. police say the toddler had no signs of hypothermia, despiting with in freezing temperatures and being in pajamas. there are no science of abuse and there are no suspects at this time: the rnc is 150 days away. work continues. will ujek has this story. >> reporter: it will be here in a blink of an eye. they're counting weeks instead of months. they've made a lot of progress and still some work to do. all eyes in cleveland are set on july. >> now, with the primary

a study shows just how much sleep we're not getting. >> tracy potts has been in iowa, new hampshire, other places. she's back in washington, getting as much sleep as she can. >> good morning. would you believe me if i told you i get eight hours of sleep a night. here is the story we talk about. it's whether or not people are getting enough sleep. well, now the cdc says they've broken it down. they have actually looked at

than -- surveys for more than 400,000 people. big surprise. about a third of americans are not getting enough sleep. not getting enough recommended 7-9 hours. now, it sort of depends on where you live. looks like folks in south dakota are getting the most sleep and out in paradise, hawaii, they're getting the least sleep. so i dug into the numbers to see where ohio stands. they're kind of just below average. on average, about two-thirds of americans are getting sleep. it's 62%. so just slightly less than that in ohio. now, interesting thing about these health surveys. it looks like white and latinos tend to get much more sleep than africans. only half of african-americans are getting enough sleep. i can testify to that. people who are employed or have college degrees and those who are married tend to get more sleep. economic factors have a lot to

it's going to end up feeling like springtime by the time the end of the day rolls around. it's 5:15 now. we've got the winter weather advisory. we're close to 60 degrees tomorrow. take advantage. let's get outside, for sure. you should. it's windy, yes, but kind of in this springlike pleasant way. low 40s at lunchtime. afternoon. peaks of sunshine into the morning. the reason for the warmup is the winds have shifted while you've been asleep. they're now coming out of the south. we're tapping into much more milder air. notice the 50s and 60s. st. louis is already 61- degrees. those are current temperatures. we're going to start to feel it pretty fast. i think by midday we'll already be in the 40s. we're already in low 30s for most spots. that's about 10 degrees above normal.

cleveland is not included. akron or canton. but through mansfield, this advisory goes through the evening. maybe the weather service shifts it further to the east today. it's breezy everywhere. sustained winds, 20 miles per hour. we'll continue to see very windy conditions throughout your entire friday. it will ease a little bit for tomorrow. notice by the afternoon, some of the cloud cover is breaking up. i think we'll see sunshine. we could seven go past 50 degrees today. i think we'll see sunshine for your saturday. that's where we have the opportunity to really see temperatures boost. notice tomorrow, this is 3:30 in the afternoon. upper 50s to near 60. i wouldn't be surprised if we end up hitting 60 degrees in some spots.

your following breaking overnight news to start your morning rush here in garfield heights. reports of shots fired lead to a standoff. the swat team had to be called in. let's show you video the moment the swat team arrived. this ended just before 4:00. now, we ended up seeing a man brought out in cuffs after the the swat team went in. another man was carried out on

the victim we know here was taken to metrohealth medical center with a reported gunshot wound. several different agencies were here on scene. coming up at 6:00, i'm going to let you know what we've learned about woman and children who are also inside that home. john? >> all right. donald trump is discussing pope francis' criticism of his immigration policies, including building a wall on the southern border. the pope told reporters aboard his plane that a person who thinks only about building walls and not bridges is, quote, not christian. well, trump fired back saying it was disgraceful for the pope to question his faith and that it wasn't a good thing for the pope to say. >> 150 days away from the rnc. all eyes in cleveland on that july date set forth. they're starting to do a little more work on this progress coming, but they said it's not

good to the north and we're green and clean to the south. back to you. >> the city of east cleveland and a police officer face a lawsuit this morning over a man's death. 22-year-old christopher kimable was struck and kyleed by kyle pettis while attempting to walk across the street. his mother is suing for $25,000. the lieutenant -- lawsuit alleged the police officer was -- the officer was responding to a hit and run and kimable was in the wrong. police continue to search for answers after the disappearance of a two-year- old. >> the child is back at home safe after spending hours in freezing conditions. police say lanna had no science of hypothermia despite freezing temperatures and being in pajamas.

the only report is the stranger in the front yard. >> she saw someone grab her where? >> grab her by the hand and run off with her. >> i didn't have reports consistent with that. >> police believe whoever had her had her inside before leaving her outside several blocks from her house. they believe she was picked up within 15 minutes of that time. police say there are no signs of abuse, and they have no suspects. a fight breaks out between two women right outside of a judge's chambers in elyria. take a look at security video just released, showing fists flying inside the elyria municipal court. here comes the third woman delivering a blow. police say there was already bad blood between a dispute. officers arrested one of them on an outstanding warrant. >> the state has hit a milestone when it comes to solving crimes. 10,000 rape kits have been

nearly 4,000 crimes have been linked to assailants. in cuyahoga county, 445 people have been indicted so far. 162 of them now identified as serial rapists, ohio is a leader in the nation when it comes to testing rape kits. police officers will soon be wearing body cameras. the city council approved the purchase of 55 body cameras and 15 cruiser cameras that can live stream. the cost is covered by money seized or forfeited in investigations. a helicopter crash lands in the waters of pearl harbor. good samaritans who saw the crash jumped into the water to board. we know a 16-year-old boy is in critical condition. luckily, no one was killed.

company that gives island tours. the faa is now investigating. the fbi searched a california home connected to the relative of one of the san bernardino shooters. federal agents served a search warrant. the home is connected to the brother of shooter syed farook. it has been searched before by the fbi. agents carried out a box, a computer, they also searched the two cars parked out front. officials will not discuss the nature of the search, only saying they're looking for evidence in an ongoing investigation. >> justice antonin scalia's body will lie in repose today in washington, dc. a ceremony will be held so the public can pay respects. as part of supreme court tradition, a black drape is also hung over the courtroom doors. scalia's chair on the bench and the bench itself. the funeral will be held

for our highs this time of the day. now, with the wind, it makes it feel seasonable at the moment. at the moment is the key. we were talking about it yesterday. the winter weather advisory is for those of you west. south into mans field, cleveland, akron, it's still breezy for all of you and already sustained winds are 10- 20 miles an hour. generally out of the south, we're going see them pick up even more as we head into mid- to-late morning and this afternoon. that winter weather advisory may be extended for the rest of northeast ohio. we'll see what thes were does with that. as we track, we can clearly see there's cloud cover around today. i do think peeks of sunshine. we're definitely noticing breaks in the overcast and temperatures very close to 50 by 3:00 today.
