the weather center. hello, hollie. >> get that coffee going. i know that you're probably excited the weekend is here. we've got a very spring like weekend ahead of us. it is still chilly right now, especially with the winds. that's a huge part of warming up. temperatures are going to reflect that. we'll be 40s at lunchtime. the high today, one year ago, we had a report low of 4 below. just to put this in perspective. low to mid-30s for the most part. and, like i said, it feels like you're in the 20s this morning. you still need your coats, but the other big part of this is how breezy it is. we've got winds sustained out of the south. 20-25 miles an hour. gusts are going to be in the 30 to 35 plus range through the day into this evening. some of you are under winter weather advisories.

i think we're going to do better than 50 degrees as we get into your saturday. we'll track how warm. first, dani has a check on your commute. sometimes when it's breezy like this, it could be a challenge. we're looking good to the south. if you're headed to the akron- canton airport or driving near it, this is 77 at greensburg road where north and southbound traffic, they're getting by just fine. the drive time between u.s. 30 and canton and 277, 17 minutes headed north, 18 minutes headed south. we're green and clean. 480 at 237. we're eastbound and westbound side of the highway. all good. take a look at the drive time between loraine. we're aok. we're following news out of garfield heights.

everyone finally came out of that house. tiffany, one person was shot in. >> reporter: we know that man was taken to the hospital for medical treatment. he was inside that home for hours as this was all unfolding. if we go over, you can see a van that's in the driveway of that home. now, police came here. people wouldn't come out. eventually they had to call the swat team in. here is what we heard. at moments, this was a have been intense scene, a man was brought out in cuffs, and paramedics brought the victim out on a stretcher. officers from several nearby departments were on the scene through this entire time. earlier in the standoff, we saw a woman who came out and was put in cuffs. three children were in that home as well, but there are a lot of questions this morning.

people come out. eventually we know -- initially, i should say, we know that police got a call about shots fired. and that's what brought them to this neighborhood. so, of course, a lot of questions this morning. we're going to work throughout the day to get those questions answered. >> all right. thanks, tiffany. >> an update this morning on breaking news we brought you yesterday morning. loraine police say something just isn't adding up in the disappearance of a two-year-old girl. she's home safe after being missing for at least four hours. she was found outside and police say even though she was only wearing pajamas, she had no signs of hypothermia. she isn't old enough to talk to tell them what happened, but police are looking into something her 10-year-old sister told them about someone in the front yard. stay with us for any undates. the city of east cleveland death. 22-year-old christopher kimable was struck by officer kyle

his mother is now suing for a minimum of $25,000 in damages. the lawsuit says the officer was driving at a high rate of speed without his flashing lights and sirens on and only had one working headline. the city says the officer was responding to an accident and that kimable was in the wrong. akron police need your help finding a man using stolen credit cards at at least two stores. take a look at this surveillance video here. they have pictures. this is from inside the shop express liquor store on hawkins avenue. back on saturday, the man seen here used the card, i should say, at the liquor store. he then went next door and tried to use it at boost mobile. he was driving a white cadillac. if you know anything, call akron police. the cuyahoga county medical examiner says a fatal crash over the weekend is considered homicide. a driver was going the wrong

when they hit a car head on. 20-year-old kayla coates died. we have a case in warren where a baby and toddler were revived by antiheroin drug narkan. the grandmother, lisa davis is charged with permitting drug abuse. police won't say how the kids ingested the heroin. they're now in county custody. here's lynna with the morning news fee. all right, john. the so-called affluenza teen will face a judge today as they decide if the case moves to an adult court. he's been in jail since he was extradited last month from mexico. couch was 16 years old when he killed four people in a drunk driving crash. his attorney claimed his

from knowing right from wrong. central peru has seen days of relentless rains. it's been tough for rescuers to reach victims. military helicopters are now helping to evacuate people to emergency shelters. the latest issue over legalized pot in colorado is whether or not it's organic. the state will look into a new system of labeling marijuana. it's tricky because the government oversees what product. since the federal government still considers pot illegal. they can't label it organic. right now, they can label it whatever they want. the push is to change labeling to pesticide free. now, this would make colorado the first state to crack down on labels on legal marijuana. oh, boy. a utah woman says she got a

cigarettes are likely to smoke real cigarettes. according to the transportation department, spirit airlines had the worst on time record. only 68% of the flights were on time. they led the 13 u.s. carriers in complaints. so keep that in mind, maybe, when you're looking for a discount flight. complaints were up 47% for all the airlines last year. >> so not a good trend. >> weather may have had something to do with those complaints. >> can't help those. >> today is one of those days where as far as your commute goes, the wind, probably the biggest thing you will be dealing with. at the bus stop, the warmup begins. we've been talking about it through the week. we're around 30 degrees. it's so breezy this morning. as we take a look at the headlines, the warmup, which

weekend is so much so that we're close to 60 degrees for tomorrow. should be pretty amazing. as we look at today's time line, mid-30s at 9:00, 50 degrees late afternoon early this evening. very windy, very mild, very spring like. it's going to feel like a day in april. as we take a look at the regional map, you can see the warmer weather. the reason we're seeing this is because the winds have shifted overnight to the south while you were asleep and right now you're all in the 30s. for this time of day, we're upper 30s for the highs. we're well on our way. it just feels cooler right now with those 20s, wind chills and very breezy conditions. later, it won't make as much of a difference. we're going to have warmed up so much. winter weather advisory, toledo, sandusky, mansfield.

despite that, it's breezy already. winds predominantly out of the south. sustained winds at this moment are from 10-20 to 25 miles per hour downtown. we're going to get these gusts as high as 35 miles per hour plus through parts of today. that will include this evening for your friday night plans. taking a look at future view, i think we'll get into some sunshine. if we get enough, we could warm up past 50 degrees today. it will be very interesting to see. taking a look at your window nation 7-day forecast, we'll go with 50 for now. we have the cloud cover in place at the moment. i think we're going see it tomorrow too. so we've got a fabulous looking saturday on the way. 58 degrees. could very well hit 60 tomorrow. it could be breezy and windy for tomorrow. rain chances small. no big storm system to track.

when it rains it pours, but in this case you get soaked again. look at this. women's sockner houston. the sprinklers come on and soak them even more. that's just adding to the pain right there. notice how many people are at this game. those good seats in the lower sections are available. the game ended -- look at that shot. the game ended 5-1. at least they didn't need to hit the showers because they got one on the field. that's rough. my biggest winners for this random acts of kindness week are the kids from valley vista elementary school in north royalton. they're known for the great things they do for the military men and women serving overseas. so they collect things in need. even four cases for sunglasses. this year they packed up all the stuff.

pounds of much needed supplies are being sent overseas. it doesn't end there. the kids also made cutouts of a child hugging a soldier. they're called paper hearts. you know the soldiers will be touched by this generous gift. great job by all the kids and teachers at valley vista elementary school. send me your picture and story, e-mail them to me or tweet them. wednesday we had 7-year-old madison, she had open heart surgery. got a nice note from grandpa who said she's doing well and the heart is responding well. madison, stay strong. >> very nice. >> good update. 6:18. did you get enough sleep last night? >> reports show a lot of us did not.

. they looked at nearly half a million health surveys. what they found, about a third of americans not getting as much sleep as they're supposed to. adults are supposed to get 7-9 hours a night. when we break it down, when we take a look at ohio, 62.1%. it's a little less than the national average. there may be sleepy folks out there watching this morning. let me tell you this.

affecting whether or not you're getting sleep. where you live but also economics. people with college degrees, i think i said college students before, but what we meant is people with college degrees tend to get more sleep. people who are married tend to get more sleep. people who are employed tend to get more sleep. not good news for african- americans. only about half are getting as much as they're supposed to. there are recommendations. i found some of these interesting. they think we should develop healthier habits. get rid of the screens and phones at bedtime, make sure you have a bedtime. there are concerns in this report that teens are having to get up too early to go to school. i know that my teens would agree with that. they also think that employers should adjust work schedules. and those doctors should be asking people in routine physicals, are you getting enough sleep. >> it's so important. we need it. >> okay.
