what's next for lake catholic and mentor. >> the school's decision to suspend a number of varsity players for one game that game was supposed to be against toledo st. john saturday. we told you about this incident a week ago that reportedly happened during a july camp. a report was filed with john carroll's police department. we weren't able to see the details but hit showed two this isn't the end for lake catholic or students when it come toes these allegations -- comes to these allegations. in the next half hour, what school leaders plan to do next to keep this from happening again. tiffany, see you then. police in sheffield township are on the lookout for a man that used a knife to cut his live-in girlfriend the man ran off before they

hospital before being transferred to metro medical center. no word on her condition this morning. police have identified the woman shot driving on i-77 in canton earlier this week the highway patrol says larson was shot after 3:30 in the morning near the pro football hall of fame. investigators are still looking for the shooter. an akron guilty to injuring a police officer. 29-year-old johnson was sentenced to seven years for dragging an akron officer in february. johnson was pulled over for a traffic violation and driving on a suspended license. the officer tried to switch gears when johnson tried to flee. the man took off with the officer hanging from the vehicle the officer was treat for minor injuries. cleveland city leaders

as rescue crews continue to look for survivors. several aftershocks since wednesday caused more damage to cities. firefighters have been escorting survivors back to their homes temporarily to get things they left behind. a california judge criticized because of a sentence that he gave a stanford swimmer will no longer hear criminal cases the court granted the judge's request to be civil cases. he's been under fire since ordering turner for a six month sentence. clean up efforts continue after days of severe flooding. volunteers have spent a lot of time pitching in. the state says they need more help. they're hoping for more donations to fund recovery efforts. clean up will take months.

melt is expanding again, this time in public square. the cleveland staple will open inside the huntington building on september 12th. we hear this location is a great place for lunch with the quick service concept similar to the field and case western locations. it has been 47 years since one of the most emphasis disasters here in cleveland history. the burning of river we've learned to poke fun at ourselves. great lakes brewery is hosting the burning river festival. the festival kicks off today and returns through tomorrow at cleveland's coast guard station. there's going to be plenty of music, food, all proceeds benefit the burning river foundation. it's a non profit organization dedicated to protecting local fresh water sources. another great festival to check out this weekend,

. we start with a local football team forced to forfeit their first game of the season. in a letter from lake catholic high school principal, we learned several varsity members were suspended for one game for allegations of hazing. the principal said they're working on ways for all to learn from this. details aren't released about what exactly happened but

ohio state troopers will get the first raise since 2008. a three year contract heads to a panel overseeing state spending. it gives state troopers raising totaling 12.5% over three years plus a bonus. if approved, it takes effect september 29. also a mixed decision from a cuyahoga county court judge on cleveland's new gun laws. the i the's gun offenders to sign up has been upheld along with other measures. the new laws including a district definition of automatic weapons were tossed out. mayor frank jackson hailed the ruling. both sides can appeal. more bad news for the ice cream company.

drops after being dropped by four major companies earlier this week. two are in the hospital this morning after a plane crashed into a home in indiana the small plane was trying to land at the airport when it reportedly clipped a tree and slam into the roof of this home. thank goodness no one was inside the home at the time. the two inside the plane were taken and airlifted to the hospital. no word on their condition this morning. nightclub shooting will not have to pay for out of pocket medical expenses. the hospital that treated 44 victims and has performed over 60 surgeries related to the shooting says they will not send medical bills to any patients. instead, the organization says they will seek payment from other resources like charities. another hospital that treated 12 survivors says it won't bill for services either

to first day of september. hard to believe. we have dog gone weather today and a couple of friends to introduce you to. cooper for starters. a great 6-year-old cat has been waiting for a loving family since april. we needed to get cooper into a home soon. sadie is extremely sweet 2-year-old surrendered in january because she was pregnant and her owner couldn't car her. there's so many stories like that. there's nothing wrong with these beautiful pets. love to get them adopted. speaking of pets and part of our family, time to give furry friends love. it's national dog day in case you didn't know. it's a day of celebrating man's best friend and encouraging you to adopt a dog or perhaps a cat as we mentioned. we'd love to see your pictures. share them on facebook, twitter, instagram page.
