we have a beautiful weekend, air show, all kinds of things going on. thank goodness we don't have hermine to deal with. >> this labor day weekend in northeast ohio a slew of activities going from west side to east side. people like to travel around, hit a couple of them. >> absolutely. i'm kind of a plane nut, being out there watching those planes you know, the f-22 and f- 35 and all that stuff, that really gets me excited. and when the weather is nice it is going to be perfect. sometimes it is hot, but not this year. 60 degrees, a beautiful start to the day. wind, that is not much of a factor either out of the northeast at 5 miles per hour. all that tropical storm force stuff is well off to the east of us. we are going to see cool nights

and if you are off to the lake today, it is not going to be too bad. northeast winds at 10 nits 1 to 2-foot waves out there, generally not a bad day at all, and no chance of precipitation outside there, it will be sunny. if you want to head out to the beach, water quality not too good. poor rated downtown and euclid when it comes to the bacteria counts. warmer, 63 at 57 to the south of us. you can see tropical storm hermine there on the east coast across north carolina. we'll tell you where it is going here in a few minutes. fortunately, we are going to have a great weekend. >> we'll check back in with you in just a short while. hermine, the first hurricane in 11 years for make landfall in florida is a tropical storm this morning, schill churning across the southeast and taking aim at the

the weekend, reaching hurricane status yet again. jay gray has the latest. >> reporter: the first hit may have been the most violent, hermine crashing the florida gulf coast overnight, wind ripping apart buildings and pulling down trees and power lines. the rain and storm surge, 12 feet in some areas, pushing water into places it is not supposed to be. daylight revealing the extent of the damage scattered for miles across the strike zone. >> this years. >> reporter: more than a decade since a hurricane made landfall in florida. >> reporter: as the hurricane moved through our state 253,000 in florida lost power. >> reporter: a storm as it pushed into georgia continuing to shred most everything in its path. >> my wife heard a lot of noise around 2:15. i think a transformer had blown. >> reporter: the storm gathered

carolinas, continuing its path of destruction. a path that could take it into the waters of the atlantic, growing again to hurricane strength as it skirts the eastern seaboard, threatening areas like cape cod, where tourists are tying to get in at least one more day of fun. while for residents, bracing for the storm. >> we are putting extra lines on the boats, stuff like that. >> reporter: this long weekend will be anything but a holiday. jay gray, georgia. medical marijuana becomes legal in ohio next thursday but for most patients it won't make a difference because no marijuana is being grown or sold in ohio yet. a 13-member panel has to be chosen. they'll work with the medical and pharmacy boards to write pot industry rules so patients are not getting prescription

deborah pulmonologist was shot and -- pearl, pearl's car was hit by matthew desha, he then crawled out of his vehicle and walked over to the 53-year-old woman and shot her several times. they still show every they soar at 700 miles per hour. alyssa raymond joins us live with morning with more on the blue angels you'll see at the cleveland national air show today. >> reporter: good morning will. you didn't comment about maya tire this morning. i feel like i look more appropriate for a motorcycle show than an air show, but i needed to be cool because this air show is entirely awesome because of the u.s. navy's blue angels. they are flying this year, this

cleveland was one of their first appearances they made back in 1946. this is video of the blue angels practicing maneuvers yesterday. they will be the final act each day. the blues have performed for more than 480 million fans. we spoke to one of the pilots, he is from kansas. he says he started flying at 16. here's what he had to say about what they are trying to do as they travel around different air shows. >> we are trying them, showcase pride and professionalism through our flight demonstration and showcase excellence we provide through the precision and teamwork we have. we don't want to inspire people to be in the military and be pilots, just to give 100% every day and give back to society. >> are. >> reporter: the cleveland annual air show attracts between 60,000 to 100,000

couple of puffy cumulus clouds out there as the day wears on. but it is going to turn out to be, all in all, an absolutely fabulous weekend. right now 60 degrees, dew point at 51, northeast winds at 5 miles per hour and we will continue with these cool nights, cool mornings, and nice, warm days. but look at markette right now. 46 degrees, atlanta 70. and you can see in between here and the 50s across our vicinity high pressure is controlling our weather. that me active weather, clouds and the like. however just off to the east this is hermine. hermine is steaming its way into the atlantic ocean off to the most at about 22 miles per hour. 60 miles per hour sustained winds, the center of sustained circulation just to the west of hatteras, north carolina. 100 miles, 115 miles or so. looks like it is going to move

shiner downtown. >> reporter: fast forward to 1968, and lewis stokes became the first african-american congressman from ohio. thanks, lou, for all you have been. >> reporter: before he died last year, his family says he had a goal. to teach others that you, too, can have an incredible life. lori stokes is his youngest daughter. >> reporter: why was it so important 30 for your dad >> to tell his story. i said daddy why did you wait so long? he said well honey, it just comes down to i didn't want to seem like i was a big deal. >> >> reporter: but he was a big deal, serving 15 terms, 30 years, becoming one of the most powerful and respected lawmakers on capitol hill. but as you'll see in the pages of his fascinating and

air force f-22 raptor. and the world war ii b25 bomber will be making their first appearance here in cleveland. this is video from previous air low as from cleveland though. there is a lineup of acts each day, everything from helicopter and fighter jet flyovers, pyrotechnics and the blue angel show. they will be doing super slow and super fast maneuvers where they'll fly within inches of each other miles per hour here. one man has a job maintaining all the electrical systems on the aircraft. here's what he had to say about how they hope to change the lives of people who come to the air slow it is very exciting. i love influencing the children in a way they will grow up and succeed in life. >> it attracts between 60,000

today with lots of jets and after burners going. a ray baby is out there to report on all the things that are going to be happening. if you don't know who that is, stick around, you'll find out. a waxing crescent moon is the moon phase. temperaturewise, 45 at markette, atlanta, buffalo 66 degrees. as we look at the satellite and radar pictures, you can see the absence of active weather here, and that is because high pressure is camped out. that is going to be ou however not such a friendly picture on the carolina coast. the east coast, of course, getting the effects of tropical storm hermine, which is moving toward the northeast at 22 miles per hour. the center of circulation just off to the west of hatteras, north carolina by 100, 115 miles or so. hermine will move out into the atlantic ocean and will continue on a northeast track here for awhile, eventually turn nor northerly, may strengthen just a little bit

warnings up along the east coast. it looks like the core of circulation should stay out, over the atlantic though, for the weekend. now as we look at our winds here, not nearly as windy as that 60 miles per hour tropical storm to the east of us here, and you can see, generally, light to calm winds. temperaturewise, very pleasant if not on the chilly side. if you didn't have a blanket over there in ashtabula, you are going to wake up kind of cold. elyria 50. 63 degrees near th and lots of sunshine, temperatures very pleasant, into the upper 70s across the area. low 80s tomorrow on your sunday, and we'll start off on the mild side, little bit warmer for labor day, but still very similar weather pattern with a lot of sunshine, very pleasant conditions throughout each of the three days. 79 for the high temperature today, yes perfection, mostly

is part of the hand washing ritual for millions. but today the fda banned 19 chemicals frequently used in many of those soaps, forcing them off the market within a year. >> it is not a ban because they said that this would be bad. it is more like a ban because it is no good. >> reporter: infectious disease says you don't need anything else. >> the fda says soap companies produced no evidence that the chemicals were effective. some research suggests, over time, they could spur drug- resistant bacteria or interfere with normal hormones. >> it very well may be that it would be fine but the companies have not shown it.
