planted in manhattan. and two overnight investigations taking place, one on the bridge where five were taken into custody. and in neighboring new jersey similar devices were discovered. one then exploding in a busy train station. the city's mayor spoke to nbc about that explosn. residents of the community but more importantly extremely concerned with everybody in the state and country where somebody can just go and drop a backpack into a garbage can that has multiple explosives and you have to wonder how many people could have been hurt? i don't have the expertise to determine the blast function of that. but based on the loudness, i

severely hurt or injured if they were in the vicinity when that one went off. >> reporter: good morning. the mayor here of elizabeth, new jersey says multiple devices have been discovered here. when the bomb squad was cutting into the first device, we heard a loud explosion, sending officers and people standing in this area running in different directions. the mayor says it w backpack full of five devices that suddenly went off. he says they're looking at the other four devices and trying to recover those and remove them from this area. they were looking at these devices and concerned about them when the bomb squad had been here for three or four hours when we heard that explosion.

was about three 00 feet from a pub, it could have killed or maimed several people. the situation still unfolding . still a very fluid situation. and overnight law enforcement officials tell nbc news they may have surveillance video that puts a possible suspect at the center of the man -- manhattan at the scene. people. the other placed inside a pressure cooker was taken for analysis, later disabled in a remote location. while all twine victims have been released from the hospital, we still don't know who deliberately set off that blast. a similar bombing took place on the new jersey shore.
