welcome back. we are just one day away from the first presidential debate and both candidates are preparing for a battle. chuck todd joins us now to preview the event. good morning, chuck. >> good morning, maureen. >> going to be a big day tomorrow. what do you think both candidates need to accomplish tomorrow night? what are we watching for? >> look, you can simplify it to one letter, they both have t words that they have to deal with. for donald trump, it's temperament, the hillary rodham clinton campaign has portraying
7:31 am
advertisements as unfit for the job because he will go off the reservation and attack anybody, anywhere at any time. so if that person, you know, that's the person that she's hoping shows up and that's the person that donald trump has to prevent from showing up. and only he can prevent that part of his personalty from popping up on stage. we will see. and i think we have some questions about can he go toe to toe with her on policy. hillary rodham clinton her issues with the public have do with trustworthiness. the other t word here. and it's a different threshold she has to meet. there are voters that believe she's more prepared for the job, more competent for the job but can they trust her? what can she do to reassure or re-establish the opportunity to rebuild trust with voter? so those are the two challenges they have in front of them. and i think it's difficult for both of them. >> and what about the tough
7:32 am
kind of questions will be thrown their way. do you see any coming? >> oh, i think there's going to be a lot and particularly between the candidates themselves. not just from the moderator. and remember, what makes this debate different and i think more of a challenge for trump is the fact that there aren't time limits on answers. during the primary debates, there was 60 seconds or 90 seconds, six, seven, sometimes 10 other candidates on stage. and he would only have to speak for four or five mis, two-hour debate, he spoke for 24 minutes. that's not the case. there's no bells. no time limits that prevent him from talking. and that i think is something he's never experienced before and how he handles that is going to be interesting. >> all right, who do you have on the show this morning? >> well, talking to people in the debate prep sessions with both of them. doing the national security prepping.

as well as of course focused on what's been happening this week in both charlotte and tulsa and how that is going to have an impact on some of the topics at the debate as well. >> all right. looking forward to it. thank you so much. >> thank you, maureen. >> chuck will be back starting at 10:00 a.m. right after channel 3 news at 9:00. and of course, we want to get to your sunday forecast because if you're headed out any time soon, the big debate, coat or no coat? douse in terms of -- is tremendous in terms of the weather. for the coat, the answer is yes, especially if you are susceptible to chilly temperatures. only in the 40s in many spots including down towards dover. youngstown, 47. downtown though, compliments of the proximity to the lake, temperatures in the upper 50s near 60. dry right now but look what is

line of scattered shough showers and thunderstorms. and-- scattered thunderstorm. that doesn't get here today. so we're dry on sunday. it does get here tomorrow on monday though. through your day today, for the most part, looking absolutely wonderful. we will call for mostly sunny from start to the finish. temperatures topping out in the mid-70s. at the tribe game at progressive field, it will be a great afternoon for it. sunscreen definitely needed. another temperature tumble on the way as upcoming work week. the none, only in the mid- and at times upper 60s for highs. and i wouldn't be too surprised if we saw a few more 40-degree readings this work week. so you know the fleece jackets, get it out of the closet and dust it off. and get ready to use it because it's been quite a few months since we've had to wear that the type of clothing. >> yep. put on the jackets and the boots, we're ready to go.

they have more than 32,000 people at last night's game. some fans who spent their saturday night at progressive field remain optimistic like this guy. >> >> i still have hope. definitely i have hope. i'm a die hard indians fan. they're my number one team with the browns jumping between second and like fourth or whatever. but i have hope and everything and hopefully everything is going to work out. and you know, we will bring home a championship just like the cavaliers did. >> reporter: just looking at like there are still tickets available like the upper deck seats for $19. the district seats though are all sold out. and i'm still working to get confirmation about if the whole stadium is getting sold out. we will have that for you coming up at 9:00. back to you. >> yeah, i have a feeling if there's tickets left over, people will be gobbling them up. everyone wants to see history here. >> thank you.

7:40 am
hi everyone. good morning. we start with the indians this morning. it could be a special day at progressive field as they finish up their three-game series with the white sox. the final home game of the season for the indians. and now the magic number moved on last night and they can clinch the central today but their four-game winning streak came to an end last night at home against the white sox. and it really was an ugly loss in front of a big crowd at progressive field.
7:41 am
inning. wasn't the plan to go more than two innings but the indians were in a 2-0 holier and the game was lost in the first two innings. based loaded in the 1 ands the 2nd here with no outs. and they only got one run. davis with the rbi single but thrown out at 2nd. and a 2-1 game after two. all sox from there. last saturday the bullpen was unreal and n the win over detroit. last night, it was t. 4-1 sox. they beat the indians 8-1. and the tribe now 90-64. what a game in detroit today. yesterday, hopefully a great game again today. it was amazing. almost two four hours, the tigers lead the royals 4-1 inth. two outs, orlando over the head of mayben. two batters later, clubs this one to right.
7:42 am
kansas city a 7-4 lead. the it's a five-run 9th inning as the royals win by that score. and the tigers remain seven back of the indians. so we go to the magic number machine. and we move from three down to two. thanks to the tiger's loss. if the indians had won last night, they would just need to win today but at two, the indians only clinch today with a win and the tiger's loss, the number moves to if the tigers win and the indians lose, it stays at two. got all that? you got room for the browns? it is sunday and they are back on the field today in miami to take on the dolphins and the browns have a new kicker after placing murray on the ir yesterday with a knee injury. they signed cody parky yesterday, now in his third nfl season. in 2014 with the eagles, he was a pro bowl selection. last year he struggled.
7:43 am
injury. the eagles waived him during final roster cuts this season. the browns have been making changes at many positions including those important one, he makes his first start in the nfl today at quarterback. the browns won't say it publicly but they're worried. they don't feel he's ready just yet but you wonder if it's an advantage that he could be a mystery to the dolphins. >> i'm told everyone has a book in the nfl. and en don't have a book yet. i don't know how they'll look at it but it's my first chance to perform and get my first opportunity to play a game. college football yesterday, kent state loses at alabama. and akron loses. today could be a big day everyone at progressive field and we will see what the browns can do in miami. i'll see you later at 6:00 and then after football tonight, don't forget, sports tonight will wrap it all up.
7:44 am
and if you plan on heading out to prosive field this afternoon as dave mentioned, first pitch at 1:10 this afternoon. a lot of sunshine in the forecast. temperatures in the low 70s. i think we top out in mid-70s with sunshine. don't forget the sunscreen of course. and showers and thunderstorms on the way tomorrow. the beautiful day today. we are tracking the storms for

7:49 am
many see the sunshine in the distance? that's going to be the theme for the day today. the forecast looks like this from start to finish through your sunday. we are sunny side up. it's a cooler start this morning with temperatures only in the 40s and 50s. i think by 10:00, we finally make it into the low 60s. lunchtime temperature, upper 60s near 70. and into this afternoon, mid- 70s and sunshine for highs. again, wake up to the 40s. plan on heading out and about. and downtown, we are at 57 with water temperatures in the 70s by the way. winds right now generally from the east between 5 to 10 miles per hour. and i think that's where they stay. dry right now but just off towards the west where we are tracking the next little weather maker. and with it, we will see scattered showers and perhaps even a few showers and thunderstorms to start off the work week on monday. and here's the deal.
7:50 am
washout but have your umbrellas set and ready to go. let's time it out. so now through lunchtime, again, a great looking start. we will call it sunny side up through this afternoon. temperatures make it easily into the low to mid-70s for highs. a beautiful day ahead of us but first thing tomorrow morning, you will notice the increase in clouds. eventually by the 8:00 to 9:00 hour, that leaving the scattered showers and thunderstorms. so it will be good idea tomorrow to plan on the weather. so if you have that outdoor picnic or that outdoor brunch planned, make sure you have an indoor option available. mostly sunny, low to mid-70s for highs with overnight lows in the mid- to upper 50s, and low 60s. window nation seven-day showing you 60s moving right in to northeast ohio after two days of 70s. by tuesday, wednesday, thursday, it is going to be

northeast ohio. so jackets needed by that point. >> okay. >> if you still have the jackets hanging in the closet, just dust them off. you will need that and the umbrellas but by next weekend, at this point, we are back in the 70s. >> yeah. >> so as long as we stay here and there's no huge erratic temperature swings and we fall below freezing, at this point, we can handle this. >> okay. all right. all right. talked me into it. all right. thank you, michael. a new chat app for android and ne assistant built in rolled throughout week. we review the features of the google app in this morning's geek fix. >> reporter: good morning everyone. a special edition of the geek fix. and a new chat app called google alo. a new chat client. you can chat with people, send messages, group chat, all of. that but there's a special feature to this that really makes a big difference. and it's called the google assistant. it's available as an individual
